How big is the Blight?

It has to be huge, as large as the lands south of it.

If the blight is going, and has, spew out hordes of trollocs that have a chance at overwhelming the armies of Light, that is a massive number.

And all of those trollocs have to live somewhere before they come out.

They have to train somewhere.

They have to have enough land to supply and feed them all.

We assume their primary diet is meat and meat takes much more room to raise than plants do.

They have to have enough resources to create their weapons and armor and that means mines for ore, coal, forests for wood/charcoal

In the early books they talked about the different tribes of trollocs, are each of these a nation?

Are there huge trolloc cities up there?

How big is it?

Tuon (I think it's her?) talks about the Blight in Seanchan so it's reasonable to assume it encircles the entire world. I assume the world is a globe in this scenario.

I think this is in KoD but am not certain.

edit: since I am a nerd and have a ruler and printer available.

Randland is ~23,250 miles in circumference at the equator.

Measurement is off since its a mercator projection, but the Blight above the Wetlands/Shara is ~8mill sq miles.  Wetlands itself is ~6.75 mill sq miles.

FYI, there are little to no Shadowspawn in the Seanchan blight. They were eradicated by the seanchan long ago. Hence why no one over there has seen one.

So what we can conclude is that Seanchan's kick Shadowspawn ass . . . while the Westlands just try to survive the onslaughts. If they would not chain channelers - I would actually like them.

I am thinking the Blight bordering Shinear and other city's might have more activity then maybe the Seanchen area did. Isnt shaol Goul(sp) also located a little after the Mountains of Dhoom if so that could be another factor as to why the west is having a harder time getting rid of the trolloks.

On a side note my spelling is horrible today..so please dont mind me.

How big is the Blight? Very. Is Randland a globe? Yes, as it's supposed to be our world. The Shadowspawn in Seanchan were wiped out by the Armies of the Night (the Aes Sedai who ruled there before the Conquest), using the exotics, which were brought in from Portal Stone worlds.

From RJ. I'm sure you can dig up a quote from him if you look for it. If you can't be bothered to look, just take my word for it. But it's supported by the text - Thom's stories in EotW about the Age before the Age of Legends being awfully similar to our own world, only distorted by the passage of time.

According to the Guide, those Shadowspawn were eradicated long before Hawkwing's son arrived.

The map another poster provided, it is also in the Guide.

About the Shadowspawn in the main continent, the books seem to imply that at least the trollocs & myrddraal are born underground.

If that is so, the surface area would not matter much.
