It's a personal taste thing, mostly.  When I used to mod chat Mafia games, I enjoyed pitting multiple mafia teams against each other.  Has a lot to do with being a deceitful, evil bastard, I think.  Anyway...  In themed games, I tend to think in the lines that the theme provides.  This particular theme provides the possibility of two feuding groups of cultists, which is one of my preferred methods of modding, as mentioned.

Essentially, I was trying to outguess the game.  I'm not a fan of surprises like, "Oh, we killed the mafia!  Oh, wait..."

Recall didn't work, unless I suggested it without even realizing I did.  The idea that it might be a double-mafia game didn't come to me until I was writing a not-serious-at-all post that became the question post.

Posted

if you want to vote me, by all means do it. don't play games about it. i get votes for that sort of thing at least once a game.

Nope. My vote is exactly where I want it.

No hints. No games. No setups. Just calling a steaming pile when I see one. It's my best guess and I'm not down with a bandwagon for no reason when we don't have a time limit.

Uh huh. A 24 player game, and the idea of two mafia/cult teams just mysteriously came over you. Awesome.

grr... hate not getting the post warning. steaming pile, huh? disagree or see something differently and you are going to make dpr see crap!

dpr, that was not even directed at you since you made your intent clear. i am aftrr al. it was toward al.

maybe i picked up a hint you did not mean to give...

Is that for me? Okay, if Al Jenn can say he doesn't lie, then i can say that I'm just playing a regular game so far. No hints - no hidden codes - I'm not hiding in your closet and I know nothing about that leopard print thong...no, seriously, when I start to play, I'll ring a bell or something. Right now, I'm swamped at work and just calling BS on Al Jenn for his playstyle. Hell, he could be innocnet for all I know, but he looks scummy and that's better than lynching poor Thorum again. I think I shall rename him dead-horse for all of the times he's been beaten. *snickers*

dpr, i thought you called my aasessment crap, not al.

the hint comment was at quibby.

i dont get a warning when someone posts when i am on cell. going to check if i missed a point i meant to make.

DPR, I'm rusty, but not that rusty.  There is no good in-game reason to even wonder about this, I agree, but a scumbag player would know that, too, and wouldn't draw suspicion down on themselves like this, especially with four votes against them.

A 24-player Mafia game is the perfect place to have dual mafias.  You have the numbers for a large innocent base, and you can divide your mafia into two different teams, both working against each other.  It forces your Mafia to start playing the game differently, by having them eliminate their competition, with the ultimate prize of the helpless innocents as their goal.

It fits well with the idea of the Cthulhu Mythos, especially the expanded mythos by other authors, because there is a lot of talk about a rivalry between Loathly Lord Cthulhu and Lord Hastur, and a war that takes place between their followers in the names of their masters.

Posted

Quibby - About half of your logic I like. The other half makes me suspicious. But mostly, I'm just happy that you are part of the small group that's currently playing...

As far as Lovecraft goes, 24 players is an excellent number to do justice to the mythos, including mutiple mafia/cult teams. As far as the expanded authors go, well, you're talkin' to a fan. If you get board, click my sig-link and read Vicious Cirlce. It's about a modern day "Deep One" with fringe benefits. heh.

Alys - I'm dying that no one else is even bringing that up. I keep waiting for a ref, and everyone keeps jumping on the bandwagon instead. I fear that this may be a short game...

Posted

And I'm assuming the half that you don't like is the half that's out to make me look innocent, which is exactly what a scumbag would do.  Don't blame you for that in the least.  I would have had to seriously question, if not outright mock, the praise that you get on your mafia prowess if you didn't.

Just to be clear, I'm voting for [glow=red,2,300]Al Jenn[/glow]

Trying to vote for me twice? I'm honored.

Dude - you start your post with a question about the reasons for lynching Thorum - answer it by defending Alys - and then say that a few more votes for Thorum shouldn't be hard to accomplish. Really?

Really?

This is ridiculous.  :P

Well if you keep this up I think you might eventually get a reaction out of me. I will break it down for you just for the sake of order. I know you have a reputation for being a great player so I'm not falling for this poorly conceived attack. You don't honestly think I am scummy you are just trying to provoke a reaction out of me or place suspicion on me. I don't think it is the later because you would have done a better job. However this is making me suspicious of you and I'm going to OMGUS vote for you after Thorum defends himself (Well as long as he doesn't incriminate himself). Since I think the basis of these attacks are just to try and get information out of me... or detour everyone's thoughts away from the fact that you are a NINJA THIEF.

What has Thorum done that warrants lynching him?  I don't like this wagon that's forming right now.

As for Thorum he still needs 5 more votes, which isn't to hard to accomplish. And it is hard to stop or derail a wagon once it starts. If the voting gets closer to 13 I'll remove my vote however I am waiting to hear Thorum convince me he is innocent. There isn't a death sentence on him, but there is enough pressure to wait and see what happens.

-- Alys, as much as I appreciate your help and know that you're doing it for your own motivations and out of your own desires I would prefer to defend myself. When I see people 'agreeing' or even not arguing with one another it leads me to believe they are mafia. I don't think anything this blatant would ever happen this early in the game, but still for my peace of mind at least let me post first for the next response please?

Hm.  What I get out of this is, "Alys, don't defend me because I don't want to vote for you."

Pretty much. She hasn't done anything scummy so far and has been nice to me. Now I know that shouldn't effect how one votes, but 'meh'. I haven't given her any reason to trust me really and although like she points out that she was defending the 'post', I know that I will vote for her if it keeps happening, because I'll be suspicious of some type of gambit.

Really? Is it that confusing for you DPR? No, you have to good a reputation to be confused. You're trying to provoke me. Or you could be trying to cause chaos... again I think unlikely. For now I'm retaining my vote on Thorum, not to lynch him but to put pressure on him and to see what he has to say.

My apologies for coming across this way, it wasn't my intention. I don't think you're suspicious right now, I was just trying to explain my opinion on the matter.

Edit:

maybe i picked up a hint you did not mean to give...

Is that for me? Okay, if Al Jenn can say he doesn't lie, then i can say that I'm just playing a regular game so far. Meh, take it as you will DPR. I don't expect you to believe me, PAFO. My play style is my own and this is the first time you've played with me, however there are a handful of others here who have including the 'Mafia God'. Time will tell. I haven't said one way or another whether I'm innocent yet so feel free to use that. I play pretty openly, I know it surprised some others when they watched me. However I haven't done anything yet that I would have thought would draw your attention like it has.

As for Thorum, I have no intention of lynching him. If the vote count gets close to 13 I will unvote and ask the same for others. I believe in pressuring people with the threat of a lynch. I will give Thorum the chance to explain himself and see what it brings about. Do you disagree with this method?

So just to sum up, you are going to cop to suspicious behavior, but then make it seem okay, and then butter me up, but then mock me, and then praise me?

Do I get a ring or something for all of that?  *smokes a cigarette* I hope it was as good for you as it was for me...

Do you disagree with this method?

Uh...yeah?

I'm going to take a nap - but don't let your guard down, becuase my reputation is going to take over for a while, and that's scarrier than I ever was!

Kiv needs to rename the game again: Metagaming Over Fiddlesmouth.

You guys are crazy. Just play. Sheesh...

*takes a drag off your cigarette* I've had better.  You're a little on the fast side for me. ;)

No, I've just accepted that there's no way in hell that I can stop looking suspicious to everybody until somebody decides to finder me (making me look less suspicious to precisely one less person, and thus doing me absolutely no good in a game this large), so I'm doing my best to be ingratiatingly funny.

Basically, yes, I am going to "cop to suspicious behavior."  I've screwed myself out of being a face in the crowd by being weird, random, and, based on my posts from today compared to yesterday, nearly bipolar.  So, I'll stay in the spotlight, getting a tan, mooning the audience, and being just suspicious enough that you'll keep an eye on me and question my motives in everything I do.  Enjoy the view.  I generally shower shortly before bed; I'll leave the curtain on the window cracked open for you.

be careful if you expect thorum to not incriminate himself, he is good at being a bad looking innocent which is why we know when he is innocent. he is fun like that.

i will move my vote if something else pops up. i like thorum. i just like info more. night brings us closer to that.

Great comeback. You really don't remember our fist game together, or what happened, do you my little cupcake?

First game that I recall playing on DM was a Staff Mafia game.  It bogged down, and I ended up getting picked by the mod to do a murder-suicide thing.  I took out a mafia, and died in turn.  The only other game I recall playing was the BSG game, where I spent most of the game forgetting about the game, then having to rush back and do damage control.  Lost that game in endgame because I was a moron again, trying my damnedest to sell the other players in the game a load of bovine manure so poor that weeds wouldn't even grow in it.  Sound about right?

Posted

Dammit, should have used 'bovine excrement.'  Would have been so much more amusing in the read-backs.
