My Thoughts on the WoT Series

I have never before encountered such irritating main characters. They are weak, stupid, and totally incompetent.

*Plot holes you could float an ocean liner through.

*Why does Jordan have to keep REPEATING himself?  By book 8 of the series I don't need to keep hearing how Rand doesn't understand women.  I get it after the 207th time you said it so shut up already.

*This series could have easily been reduced to 6 or at the most 8 books and would have been much more fast paced and exciting for it.

*Why does Jordan have to REPEAT himself so much?

*Inconsistencies abound throughout the series.  Often completely contradicting something said only pages before.

*Tedious descriptions of totally irrelevant things that go nowhere and have absolutely no bearing or relevance to the story whatsoever.

*Why does Jordan have to keep REPEATING himself all the time?

*Irritatingly PG level story development as if he is writing to a bunch of elementary school kids.  "Blood and Ashes" WOW how lame is that?  It's very lame.

*The cover has some blurb comparing Jordan to Tolken?   What a joke he isn't even close to being in the same league.

*It's also quite obvious the his wife wrote much of the story as the series reads as if it was written by committee and suffers for it greatly.  There is a lack of cohesive storyline and it is quite jarring at times.

*Why does Jordan have to constantly REPEAT himself?

*The story jumps around like an epileptic crack addict having a seizure.  Which is irritating in it's lack of smooth transitions and continuity.

* Jordan has a total lack of real human interaction and dialogue that makes you grit your teeth and roll your eyes at it's absurdity.

*The absolutely retarded names is so annoying Rand-Randy, Thom-Tom, and so on obvious names changed by one letter or two simply switched.  Come on how lazy and pathetic is that.

*The list goes on and on.

*Oh yeah why the hell can't Jordan stop freaking REPEATING himself?  Enough already we get it shut the hell up and get on with it.

Normally I don't feel trolls.

But.

Which plot holes? Could it be that you've just missed something?

Can you elaborate on how it feels like it was written by a committee?  I'm not sure I understand this point.

Inconsistencies in the series - are you sure?  Keep in mind that in character and out of character information are two separate things; in many cases we are relying on character opinion and knowledge, which is limited and not even close to being an omniscient point of view.

'Blood and ashes' is swearing; the fact that it's not swearing in our reality/earth is irrelevant since the setting is not on our earth.

Further... you're complaining that the names are too ... 'regular'? Mundane? So, the names aren't strange enough and the swearing is too strange...

As far as the repeating, and your other problems, no one forced you to read it. You read at least -8- books of it.  If these were real problems, and I concede he does repeat himself, you should have stopped by the time that was evident - far far short of 8 books in.

Anyways, enough troll food for now.

As someone that loves to read (and listen) well composed ideas I think that you are an idiot. Jordan has his OWN, UNIQUE, style. Same as Christopher Hitchen, for example, or Tolkien, though who is better, Tolkien or RJ, the time and personal preferences will show. Personally, I think that Jordan is one of the most cohesive authors out there. Story holes??? Honestly, you really needs to specify those. And as far as repeating himself - it makes it easier to follow a VERY, VERY, VERY long and complex story. And if you thinking about the whole "don't know women" thing, take a deep breath...again...again...good. It's an ongoing JOKE for OVER 15 YEARS. Just because you can't find answers from RJ book in understanding women does not mean you should get all worked up about it. Calm down...remember - take a deep breath...again...again...

I think the thing is differant writers have differant styles. RJ is longer and discriptive.  Yeah, it's long, but to me thats part of the appeal.  Compare that  to Terry Brooks, who's writing I also like a lot,but his books, except for his first three, are a lot shorter, and so less time is spent on each character, and he moves the plot foward faster.  But they're both really good, it's just a differant experince.  Really, Orsen Scott Card is the most similar author to RJ I've read.  Off topic, I know, but still...

Anti-Fan, who are your favorite authors?

Names are similar for certain reasons and reflect cultures and languages from different parts of the world. Also, considering that this book is based on the idea that time is cyclical and that the planet it takes place on is Earth, the names are going to reflect that. See the end of The Great Hunt when the Heroes of the Horn appear and Rand hear's 'odd' names that are actually names from reality. Also, many names are also based out of Arturian legend, or are based on deities from various religions (and it's implied that this story and others from other ages are the basis for many of these mythological traditions). Names are also adapted from those of real people who have lived who characters bear similarities too. It goes on and on.
