My understanding of multiple personality disorders is that it isn't like what's happened with Rand. Of course, I do doubt that anything like what has happened with Rand has ever actually happened. His case is rather...unique. The idea that LTT's voice was made up or imagined by Rand as a coping mechanism certainly makes sense. But what happened in KoD when "LTT" seized control of the source from Rand? Is this the madness, or is LTT more then just a source of memory? What did Semi mean when she exposed the voice in Rand's head, saying " it makes no difference in this case that the voice is real ". Was she just trying to be divisive and turn Rand's allies away from him? Does she truly believe the voice in Rand's head is a real voice? These questions need to be answered, and if Rand's case is unique and the voice is truly a coping mechanism for the memories, how does Semi know about it? Why does she suspect the voice is real? Is it that she understands Rand is LTT reborn and thus would have access to his memories, or is she playing a guessing game in order to confuse Rand and his allies and possibly divide them?

Personally, I think that Semi was stirring it. She is (was!) the Lady of Pain - and pain can be psychological as well as physical.

One thing I just noted, I do believe that Rand has past life memories because he is a Hero, but then if all Ta'veren were Heroes they would surely all have past life memories, so I think I doublecrossed myself there.

I love it when dark rand gives women a 'level' look that they often use on men and they are scared sh!tless of him

Do you believe I could kill you? To that kid!

Yes, I can see how I could benefit from Lans death. As if Nynaeve had suggested it to him!

How do you fight someone smarter than yourself? The answer is simple. You make her think that you are sitting down across the table from her, ready to play a game. Then you punch her in the face as hard as you can.

I am going to miss Dark Rand as much as I missed the Rand from Lord of Chaos.

However, in tGS LTT is telling Rand that Semirhage  "rarely lies". Personally I think that the LTT voice was a construct, but had both made up and real elements in it. The memories were certainly LTT's but there were also manerisms that were seeping through (Rand suddenly humming or pulling his ear at the sight of beautiful women), and LTT had the feel of a much older man - not just in memories but his outlook of the world. At the same time, I had noticed long before tGS that LTT was practically all emotions whereas Rand was the logical thinker with few emotions, except love and anger - which suggests a multiple personality disorder.

In short, I think it's both - the T'A'R personae of LTT was seeping through to Rand, but he was also using it to shield himself from the identification as the Dragon, which if accepted would have forced him to face what LTT has done at the end, and feeding all his emotions into it, becoming increasingly disconnected from his real self.

I am glad that RJ did not want us to find out what he had in mind on this - I like it that we can each put our own interpretation. Let it remain a mystery!

He's the Creator's Champion.  Hasn't the Creator spoken to him?  He's more than ta'veren.  He's not born every hundred or four hundred years to be a hero.  He's only born when the Dark One needs to be bitch-smacked back into his hole.

"Bitch Smacked".....I like the way of putting it. ;D

Actually, the books do not tell how often his soul is reborn.

Various prophecies seem to indicate that the soul has been and will be born more than just the near of an Age.

And I take Robert Jordan commented about this; not sure where/when nor his exact words.
