  1. Free will is not unlimited choice. Free will is your ability to choose actions on your own without direct control over your choices. By the nature of free will others free will with conflict with yours. Meaning if someone decides to kill you or accidentily runs you down your free will will come into conflict with their choices. Things predetermined does not conflict with free will. The Wheel of Time universe does not have complete free will and never claimed to have it. From book one ta'veren and the Wheel were introduced as factors that change and alter the free will of those to fix problems in the wheel.
  2. I have a shirt just like your avatar. Very cool. Someone even took a picture of it the night of the book signing.

  3. Because the DO is outside of the pattern but part of the whole. He's the darkness in between the threads and all that. Like Rand said the DO isn't the enemy. It's a force of nature kind of. Punching the bore allows the DO to corrupt the pattern but he does so because its his nature. I can't think of any good analogies but think of it the DO as battery acid. Battery acid allows the battery to have juice and can coexist. You punch a hole in the battery and it's going to be leaking and become corrosive because that's just what it does. The Dark one does influence the pattern it's just when his containment is broken he corrupts the pattern. That's similiar to how I interpreted it. Would you then sa the DO is a tool to keep the Wheel running properly? The dark one is part of the pattern from what I can tell. Thus if you strip the dark one from the pattern you lose part of what makes the threads. So in a world without the DO the thread, the life and the existence are lacking like those who are turned evil have something removed from them.
  4. One thing I don't get is why was one of the Forsaken's body unguarded and allow Rand to leave in his body just like that?

  6. The big question for me is why not tie off gates? Why not do a full circle and let Androl just gate away the trollocs? Why didn't Androl or other channellers just open gates on people?
  7. I liked it though I thought the Demandred duels were fan services, Rand suspecting the Murandy king being, Matt not being Hero though it seems more fitting with his personality that he would be. I used the audio book which does tend to spruce up the story once you get into the book.I was surprised that the Dark One was lying to Moridin about the nothingness. But the rest of the ending didn't surprise me. Using the TP to avoid the taint and Rand switching bodies. The question I have was that Rand can't channel but he lit the pipe. Does that mean that he has the power of creation?
  8. Two things we know. 1. It's impossible for the DO to win because time in the wheel of time is like a the surface of a ring... there is no beginning or end it's just a loop that exist all at the same time. Meaning all time happening is the past/future/now. Being that every coming second in Randland is the past they've already happened before and the DO has already lost infinite times in infinite turnings an infinite time. But... 2. The DO creates paradoxes and is attempting to break the wheel and the infinite loop of time. It kind of makes sense when you think about it that for the DO to escape he would need to stop the infinite times he loses. I mean, how do you escape a prison where it's created that you lose an infinite times? By destroying time itself.
  9. Modern AS are pretty weak. Even Elayne, Egwene are only upper middle tier. And they're the second strongest rank the AS have outside of Nynaeve.
  10. Not all Dragon prophecies are in the Karaethon cycle. Aiel, Seafolk have there own.
  11. I found it to be a lot easier to listen some of the later book than to read. Things that bothered me were the slow pace + RJ's typical over descriptions of pointless stuff, internal monologues that last paragraphs that seemed to go on about minor stuff, thinking about how someone else thought about something, etc. I found myself skipping paragraphs. But listening is much easier just have to make sure i don't get to relaxed and fall asleep.
  12. Both seem to be creations of the age before the age of legends. But it would seems like they would be something that are consistant every turning. Seems like the Horn would be used for every Age of Prophecy considering how Hawkwing talks to Rand. Do you think the Horn or something similar is created every turning or it's just forgetten and found again? Portal Stones we know even less about. Who made them and how old are they? Are they constant major event in each turning?
  13. That's not actually true......While time is cyclic and repeats itself, it may not do so in the same way every time......It may not be a bore in the pattern every time.....Or the same types of seals.......The previous turning might not have even had heartstone to make the same types of seals. And that is my point......There has never been any proof, be it in the books themselves, or by acknowledgment by RJ, the COL being born twice always happens. A great example of this would be the fact that RJ has said that the Horn of Valere did not exist in the Last Battle of the previous turning of the wheel. RJ has said the pattern and lace of time look the same from a distance but different close up. I think that implies there are major themes that play out every time but names, places and how it happens is different.
  14. Of course, we know that because there is no dragon soul in RL. But I'm talking the book "real world" where we're in one of the seven ages. We really don't know what Jesus did because we have a very limited angle on his life. Almost all of his life is chronicled by his followers and sparsley any historical recordings. He could have been doing a forgotten or one time talent that worked with the creator like Wolfbrother. RJ has hinted that the Dragon Soul does play important roles that aren't dragon related in some ages. Would Jesus been Ta'veren? What about someone like Gengis Khan? HoH and Ta'veren?
  15. I am certain that AoL always has the Bore, War of Power, CoL. Next age CoL defeating the DO properly or temp again.
