They announced the title of Chris Nolan's next Batman film today. They also announced the Heath Ledger is signed to play the Joker. Rumours are swirling that Philip Seymore Hoffman will play the Penguin.

Yeah... Heath as the Joker...

I was thinking more like Jude Law or someone more jokerish.

Yeah...

And why two villians? Why do superhero movies need two or more villians to fill the screen. Why can't they focus on one villian? I hope this is better than iceman/poison ivy or riddler/two face.

I really hope it's just a rumour. Not only because I share the annoyance with the several villains-thingy, but also because of all Batman's villains, Penguin is IMO the least interesting.

Well spiderman is doing it the next time around. Venom/Sandman... I would have been ok with just one or the other.

Never really liied Venom, but I've had Sandman on my wishlist since the first movie.

But it would have been way cooler with Kraven.

Ohhhhhh c'mon Empy... You aren't telling me you never watched the Spider-man shows? (Old school, Fox 90's version -the best one-, or the new computer animation one).

Your life is deprived of such awesome comebacks like: "Mysterio? I think I had a bowl of Mysterio's for breakfast today."

And Venom is the best.

INCREDIBLY difficult to do on the big screen and keeping the symbiat (sp?) believable. The oozing black, and that Eric from That 70's show is Eddy Brock- not some big burly weight lifter, more like Tobey really.

So maybe they're planning for the nemesis thing.. and maybe Venom won't be a slathering out of control monster... The drool really was the appeal though.

But, these people dropped the ball once again unless they manage to sneak in the most redeeming character in all of Spider-man, that would make sure all of the theatres were packed for every showing, make it a lasting triumph in cinematography history.

That character.....

Black Cat.

Get the same girl that did the voice in the Spider-man 2 Playstation game, or that blonde girl that's sucking face with Tobey in the promo's.

What else?

I think they should have done the Lizard really. If not this one, the next one. We've had so much back story and attention to doctor Connors.. bout time we saw some scales showing up on him.

and now we wait

IS IT IN THEATRES YET?!!!!

Err no, I watched some of the spiderman cartoon back in the day but I didn't retain the information.

Shame.

A grevious shame sir Empy.

I really don't think they should "re-do" the Batman movies tho. Jack Nicholson is the Joker to me, there's no one else.. I might be able accept Heath.. might, but I doubt it. Now are they going to go, one by one, redoing the Batman saga if they get to a 3rd movie or beyond.. or they going to come up with an original screenplay like Batman Begins?

I just like the rumor that Ryan Phillippe is going to play Harvey Dent.

It's going to be the prettiest Batman movie ever! :)

And Mark Hamill is the greatest Joker ever, which is something I never thought I'd say after Star Wars. :D

Yes I think everything I read points to an original screenplay.

Hoffman also rejected the role of Penguin. "A full offer was made to Phillip Seymour Hoffman for the role of Cobblepot/The Penguin," writes a Batman-on-film source. "Hoffman was very cautious about accepting the role following his Oscar win (Capote), and has since declined the part."

Good, there should only be one villian as previously stated.

Maggie Gyllenhaal is in final talks to star opposite Christian Bale in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight, reports Variety.

She'll play the role of Rachel Dawes, played by Katie Holmes in Batman Begins. Holmes dropped out of the project earlier in the year.

The cast also includes Heath Ledger, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman and Aaron Eckhart.

Nolan is set to start filming in the late spring or early summer. Warner Bros. Pictures is eyeing a July 18, 2008 release.

Sarah Michelle Geller in Dark Knight?

According to Whedon.info, Sarah Michelle Gellar may have signed on to play a role in the upcoming film, The Dark Knight.

The site received a scoop saying the following:

"I’m an independent filmmaker [ writer / producer ]: "I had been talking back and forth with one of Sarah Michelle Gellar’s reps about a role in a new film I start shooting in May."

"It was always a long shot, and we did get the run around for quite a while, but eventually, they expressed a morsel of interest."

"Never did speak to her though. Unfortunately, yesterday we were informed that she wouldn’t be able to do it; because there might be a clash with ’Batman’."

"Seemed like a fight we wouldn’t win, so gave up on that one."

Unless they create a role for her like Rachel Dawes (does it *matter* who plays that part?), what role could she possibly play? I mean, I love Buffy, but I don't want her anywhere near Selina Kyle.

Hm, the Joker's in this movie.. maybe Harley Quinn? *That* I could deal with.
