What is so great about the wheel of time series?

As to the other guy don't know him at all I'm afraid ???.
Alas, Scott Bakker is not as well known. Prince of Nothing is a fantasy version of the first crusade, with the rise to power of a superman within the ranks of the Holy War. It's brilliant. He's currently writing a sequel trilogy, Aspect-Emperor, and the first book of the (The Judging Eye) is out. The three books of Prince of Nothing are The Darkness That Comes Before, The Warrior-Prophet, and The Thousandfold Thought. Be aware, it's a very dark series.

Thank you I shall look into that soon. Nothing wrong with a bit of darkness in a book.

I also love the descriptions of pure sword fights. the forms all sound awesome.

I particularly enjoyed the Galad fight at the beginning of KoD.

The forms are great and all... too bad you cant visualise it.  :) The whole "grass gently caresses the tigers hindquarters" thing annoys me.

That's the beauty of it, though.  You're free to visualize a particular form however your mood takes you.  One time powerful and intense and on some other occasion ludicrous and silly.  It's all in how you're feeling that day.

also the balance, speed, strengh, hands/grip and and intent make the names of the move

I enjoy the battle scenes alot in WoT, there probably the best I can remeber reading.

I also think the way the sword fighting is described is great.  Stops the individual fights just coming down to a series of thrust/parry/counter. Where as Weasel farts in the bushes, allows me to visualize the whole body postion  and movement of the fighters, without pages of description.
