Who is the old man who saved Mat from the Gholam?

I think about 99.99999999999999% of WoT fans agree that Noal is Jaim Farstrider. It's kinda obvious by CoT and KoD. We don't have a sold conformation yet, though I'm sure we will in WoT 13, if not in TGS. I personally have never seen anyone come up with another theory on who he is. His problems with his memories in ACoS even shines a giant light on the fact that he's Jaim.

If that's the case he's in love with Jain's wife. That reaction he has is WAY too personal to just be cousinly love.

But no, Noal's case and Jain's are too similar--it strikes me as unlikely to the point of impossibility that both Jain and his cousin went through almost the exact same things. The memory damage, the travelling, and so on.

I thought the same, Jain happened to be used by Ishamael, Noal happens to be seen with Sammael, Graendal and Shiane... definitely not coincedence.

Where was this incedent about Jaims wife?

Noal happens to be seen with Sammael, Graendal and Shiane...

He isn't actually seen with Graendal. Graendal's 'old man' is Alsalam. He's not seen with Sammael or Shiane either--he's seen to be aware of Shiane and Carriden. Sammael made an appearence at that time, but Noal was not aware of it.

Where does Noal reveal who he is in love with?

It's in KoD. Noal speaks bitterly of how Jain left his wife to die without him. Too bitterly.

No, Im not on about Graendals old man. look at the time when Mat first meets Noal in ACoS, he sees Noal first with Shiane and two people who just happen to match Sammael and Graendals description. Its when Mat is at the Silver Circuit and Nalesean says his famous line "You should have bought her [shiane]" a trinket.

Mat saw Noal and Shiane with "a tall fellow who looked like a stork, in green silk and a gold braid" and "a nicely plumped, full-mouthed young woman who appeared about to come out of her dress at the top".

Sammael is not a tall man.  He is only of average height, a fact which upsets him a bit.  The woman described doesn't seem like Graendal either.  She's always described as beautiful and voluptuous.  Not nicely plumped.  The scene of a race track doesn't really seem like her thing either.

I could have sworn there was a quote form RJ asking if Noal was Jain Farstrider and he said, "Most likely."

From the FAQ site::

Is Noal Charin really Jain Farstrider?

Noal Charin is the old geezer we first met in A Crown of Swords wandering around Ebou Dar. He joined up with Mat and spent the last two books crossing Altara with Mat and Tuon. Robert Jordan has not flat out stated, "Noal Charin is Jain Farstrider." Nevertheless, Noal's comments and attitudes in Knife of Dreams make it nearly certain that they are one and the same.
