Vanion

Recommended Posts

Vanion was making his way back to the Yard from his trip to the infirmary. He'd had a run in with a Warder, who he found out was named Kynwric. A dislocated shoulder, a few bruised ribs and a bruised larynx had left him feeling spiritually defeated. He'd thought better of his skills with a sword... and he hadn't even been blindfolded for their sparring match!

Leaning against the wall and sighing deeply, he tightened the black scarf tied around his eyes, making sure it was secure. Taking hold of his sheathed katana once more, he stepped through an archway and into the Warders Yard. The sounds of the other trainees hard at work washed over him virtually unheard. His mind walking down the mental trails of depression and shame.

He'd not even been able to land a single blow on Kynwric! Light, he'd not even grazed him!

His katana weaving along before him like a cane, he continued his way through the Yard, seeking out somewhere out of the way where he could practice his unorthodox style of fighting. The other Trainees had a habit of trying to trick him. He'd be sparring with one while blindfolded, when suddenly other would sneak up behind him with practice lathes.

Today's trip to the infirmary had not been his first. The worst, yes. But certainly not the first.

He'd planned to take something of a break from practice with a sword today, instead wanting to focus on what he'd heard called The Flame and Void. He had learned of this discipline a few months ago while reading, which lead him to research it further. He had been practicing it since then but was so far unable to attain the state of mind necessary. Today he would try again.

Making his way towards a somewhat quiet corner of the Yard, he should have known better than to quit paying attention to his surroundings while out in the Yard...

This week just kept on getting worse...

Belig blinked as he walked out into the sunlight from the armory. his third week running of being on weapon maintenance and cataloging. It took a moment for his eyes to re-adjust to the bright daylight as compared to the dimly lit recesses of the back storerooms. Adjusting his broadsword at his hip and grabbing his round shield from where had left it by the door. stepping out into the yard, Belig noticed a man a bit worse for wear coming out of the infirmary carrying an odd looking sword that marked him Vanion. Belig could remember him a little bit, tucked back somewhere in the back of his head, but he could not place where he had met the man before. What he did remember was the rumors of some light blasted fool trying to fight blind folded and getting the wool beaten out of him. Other whispers said that he was indeed a very accomplished swordsman and when people didn't gang up on him he usually did fairly well for himself.

Moving to intercept Vanion, Belig raised a quick call out to the man. "Greetings Vanion, I hope all is well with you." Belig moved closer, but began to feel the hair rising on the back of his neck.

Edana stepped out in the light and breathed deeply. It felt wonderful. She'd filled every quiet moment she'd had over the last two weeks with training and the carts and the bath she'd just stepped out of signaled the first real break she'd had since... she wrinkled her brow. Light, since months before Sandre left.

"Time flies," she muttered, her eyes scanning the Yard. She'd seen Master Kynwric beating up on a trainee earlier. She didn't usually notice those things, but it kept her attention today because... well, because she'd been bored. Boredom was a bad thing when all you have to look forward to is the trash carts! Seeing the same trainee exiting the doors leading from the infirmary made her lips twitch. How many times had she walked out of those doors, just praying for peace and quiet?

As she watched, another trainee hailed the first and matched his pace as he walked across the yard. Edana's emerald eyes narrowed on the pair and, curious, set off behind them at a much slower pace. She couldn't hear a thing they were saying, but something in the lines of the two men's shoulders sent off warning bells...

Not having been paying attention, the man was fairly close to him before he called out, "Greetings Vanion, I hope all is well with you." And he kept coming closer still...

He recognized the voice. Belig, he believed it was. From what he could remember, the Trainee had a penchant for starting fights. Grip tightening on the hilt of his katana, he raised his face to the sky and whispered, "Light, why is it always me..?"

Turning now, to face the direction of Belig's footsteps, he gave a tired smile. "Hello Belig... Was there something you needed me for? Or have you decided to try something uncharacteristic by exchanging pleasantries with others which don't involve introducing them to your fist or lathe?"

Shaking his head, he immediately regretted what he'd said as soon as the words were past his lips. He wasn't thinking clearly. He should have stayed in the infirmary longer after being Healed. Now his light blasted mouth was going to land him in a heap of trouble.

Smiling rather sardonically, he couldn't help but think, once again, that this week did indeed, just keep on getting worse.

Belig's hackles rose a bit with Vanions comment.  Light, does this man have any manners! Eyes narrowing Belig turned to Vanion. "Seems that I'm not the only one lacking manners around here. If you got a problem spit it out before I decide to bash your bloody head in." Belig drew in deep breath and tried to calm himself but it did nothing to quell the angry fireball that had formed in his chest. "As for what I wanted, I wanted to know if you..." Belig didn't get any more out as he tripped over something and fell forward.

catching himself he turned to look for what he tripped over and saw nothing. Ok, that tears it! If he wants a bloody fight, he'll get one! "You bloody wool head! I've done nothing to pick a fight with you but it's apparent you want one!" Belig quickly rushed forward to drive the edge of his shield into Vanions gut and pivoted into a sweeping kick to send Vanion crashing to the ground as Belig reached for a nearby Lathe. "On you guard!"

Manners... true, he could have show better manners, but he was still somewhat touchy since his fight with Kynwric. Admittedly, he had been short with Belig, and ge did regret it.. though not as much as he thought he was about to!

You bloody wool head! I've done nothing to pick a fight with you but it's apparent you want one!"

Vanion heard him rushing in, the air whistling from his shield. Quickly bringing up his sheathed katana in both hands, he took the shield blow with it, then stepped to the opposite side to avoid the sweep kick. He heard the man moving and picking up a lathe... "On you guard!"

...Fine then. If this was how it was going to be...

Reaching back, he pulled the hardwood training katana out from where it was tucked under his belt, then strapped his sheathed katana over his back.

...The shield... I need to be wary of the shield! he thought. This would be challenging.

"Fine. If it's a fight you're looking for, I will oblige. Lets make this quick. I have other things to do..."

He settled into Lion on the Hill, his guard set perfectly and waiting for Belig to attack.

Belig settled into a offensive guard, the practice lathe in his hands feeling all but natural in his hands as he observed vanion. The blood in his head was pumping as he circled his opponent, looking for some kind of opening. Then he saw a small hesitation in the stance the man had and belig struck. Puting his sword and shield into a wedge shape, Belig closed distance and quickly blocked a blow with his shield while bringing his lathe upwards into a rising arc while shifting his weight to pivot the shield and throw vanion's katana wide. Belig's sword connected with Vanions thigh with a resounding crack as vanion retreated a few paces to try to escape the blow. Belig rushed forward with his shield perpendicular to his body and his lathe in an over the top stab.

Vanion parried the lathe as he sidestepped and then brought his katana down on Belig's arm. Belig in turn pivoted and took a massive swing for vanions head and missed. Belig barely brought his shield up in time to catch a second swing by vanion and then charged forward to throw vanion off balance. As Vanion staggered back Belig brought his lathe in for a rapid succession of blows to vanions ribs, getting three hits in before vanion backstepped and charged in a rising arc that came inches from Beligs nose. Belig retreated a few steps and took a wedge guard with his shield and sword, and waited for vanions advance.

Edana could hear them yelling across the Yard. She was debating whether to get involved. Even when they started swinging at each other, she was still debating. From the sound of it, they both deserved a little bruising. She felt her lip quirk and sighed. Why were men always so blasted irritable?

She made her way over, giving them plenty of time to keep whacking on each other. She even waited on the one she'd seen Kyn beating on earlier to advance on the other one. Vanton? Vanion... Belig? eh, I'll figure their names out in a minute, she thought as she watched. She even made notes in her head about this one's stance being too high and that one not recovering fast enough. Light help, I've been hanging out with Kynwric too much! she muttered under her breath.

She stopped a few feet away with her arms crossed and her head tilted. She eyed Vanion a moment. "Well, aren't you going to get him back for that?" She asked pointedly. "I'm sure the Accepted helping out in the Infirmary will enjoy twittering over you again so quickly..."

I feel a bit like the big sister here...

Smiling slightly, even after taking some abuse from Belig, this seemed so slow. This man moved nowhere near as quickly as Kynwric had, and even then, he'd had Kynwric on the defensive a few times. Might as well make this interesting.

Well, aren't you going to get him back for that?" She asked pointedly. "I'm sure the Accepted helping out in the Infirmary will enjoy twittering over you again so quickly..."

Oh, I'll get him back, thought Vanion.

Striding towards Belig in perfect balance in The Heron Spreads Its Wings, his wooden katana suddenly arching out horizontally in a tight arc aimed for the neck. Knowing Belig would be bringing up his shield to defend and create an opening, he waited until he heard the shift of feet, then suddenly pivoted on the ball of his right foot, reversing the arc to come around in a tight spin, dropping lower into The River Undercuts the Bank, his wooden katana slashing out at Belig's left right knee.

Hearing Belig quickly back step to avoid having his knee broken, Vanion pressed his attack with Lightning of Three Prongs, thrusting for Belig's chest. Hearing him shift to parry the thrust, he quickly turned it into a slash, taking Belig solidly in the right side, catching the lower ribs. Settling into The Creeper Embraces the Oak, Vanion bagn circling Belig, his sword always in motion, presenting a new threat, never leaving him open for any single attack for very long, constantly shifting between high and low guard stances as he continues circling.

"Whats wrong Belig? Blind man have you on the defensive?"

D'ashan finished his routine, lowering his weight from the ball of one foot. His muscles, warmed by the hours of exertion working the forms, ached pleasantly. He was pulling his shirt over his head when he heard someone clear their throat bemusedly. Tugging the garment the rest the way on he caught sight of Saline. Grinning he bowed to her and then dipped a second time to replace his practice blades on the rack.

"Always a pleasure to see you Saline. What brings you to the yards today?"

“You’re a stinking liar, boy but your nonsense amuses me.” Came the pleasant reply. “I have come to serve my duty to all and freshen up the air around here.”

He feigned mock mortification, pressing one hand to his mouth in false shock. "I most humbly and deeply apologize if my mortal scent gives offense to a Light-blessed angel like yourself!" He cried, his eyes sparkling with barely suppressed mirth.

Her answer to that just made him chuckle as he strapped his scimitars onto his back. It had been odd leaving those behind in the Tower Library on the days when Saline and he held their reading lessons. In truth he had, while respectful, lost much of his awe of Aes Sedai since coming to the Yards. First it was Shaneevae, then it was Cetaile. Now Saline helped to paint Aes Sedai as women who, while able to wield the One Power, were just women mortal as any other. He had grown to like Saline's company after they had gotten to know one another. She had taught him much about Stones and a passion for letters alike. The day was getting on into afternoon and he asked Saline if she would like to join him for a bite at the mess.

"I am sure the Tower has much finer facilities, but I know you like the rougher food from time to time." He shot a wink at her and they began making their way to the Mess Hall. D'Ashan was lost in thought when the Aes Sedai placed a hand lightly on his arm. His grin slipped as he saw one of the Trainees attacking another trainee who was blindfolded. The blindfolded one scored an impressive hit on the other and D'Ashan was forced to re-evaluate him.

Maybe it was some kind of special training? He thought, spotting Edana nearby watching. He glanced at Saline and gestured to the additional Yard member, who was yelling something he could not catch at the two. She was a Tower Guard, D’ashan was sure he had seen her around somewhere; she looked very familiar. Oh yes, the night with Adamin and Adela at the Inn!

"Great, trainees fighting meant I might have to actually do something about it." muttered Saline darkly. While confrontations were wonderful challenges, she did not relish having to step on people’s toes, the ones who were in charge of the trainees, including those who do not like interference. Particularly when she had recognized the one attacking . . . Belig, his name was, from Visar’s daggers class had been familiar. One didn’t usually forget anybody grabbing at her wrist so hard the fingers were still dark against her skin . . .

Picking her feet up softly, Saline was in the very process of executing a quiet sneak for the garden gate, when she perceived that the trainee who was blindfolded had at last decided to apply the hit. And seemed more skilled than Belig. But he was checked by the Tower Guard . . . or so Saline thought.

    “You know her?” pointed Saline.

“Her? Yeah." Came the soft reply. "She's Edana, a Tower Guard. We’re not close but I know of her, what with her personal affairs being aired through the Yards.”

Upon seeing the Guard it seemed to Saline that there was no longer any need for the strategic retreat which she had been planning since she would not be stepping in to stop anything if needed. Saline had no real wish to tear herself away unless she had to. There was a fascination about public fights which gripped and made one reluctant to pass the thing up provided personal efforts were steered clear of entirely. She decided, accordingly, to remain, and presently there was the practice weapons clashing as the trainee with the blindfold climbed the platform of success with new fervor.

“D’Ashan?” Asked Saline, a tinge of mischief in her voice.

“Yes?” said the other, his gold flecked green eyes glimmering with interest.

“Change of plans,” Saline saw what had to be done and said to the former thief “you get in there and join the fray then we’ll head for lunch“

“Saline I’m hungry,” he complained, but rather good-naturedly as he was used to Saline’s plans by now. They usually gave good rewards, “what’s in it for me?”

“I’ll pay for lunch if you can get the blindfold off that trainee.” He considered her proposition for a moment, glancing to her first to make sure she was not joking. The Mess was free, but a good Inn in Tar Valon was not.

“Sounds good,” he said slowly. "What's the catch?"

“You have to leave those ugly weapons behind.” she replied, grinning.

“Am I permitted to at least use practice lathes?” He said, a little thrown off by her condition. Not that he was nervous about facing two fighters without his scimitars. The term had come out off the left field, a bit, was all.

“Nope, I’ll only pay for lunch if you go in barehanded. Like a sneaky Uncle,” replied Saline, with not even the slightest flush mantling her cheeks when bribing.

“Really,” he considered, trying mightily not to roar in laughter at the image of him yelling 'You've been Sneaky Uncle'd!' when he managed to retrieve the item “You’ll pay for lunch if I can get it off him?”

“Yep, like a sneaky Uncle” she repeated, turning away once more to watch the unfolding scene before her.

“He’ll find himself Sneaky Uncle’d before he can blink twice.” D'Ashan said before stepping quietly towards to two. He motioned to Edana to stay quiet so that she did not give away his position, jerking his thumb over his shoulder to a grinning Saline. Slowly he circled the two men so that he could catch the trainee's eye who held the shield. Surprisingly the man didn't even seem to notice him. They were fairly intent on what was going on. He glanced at Saline once more and gave her a winning grin before returning his attention to the bobbing black cloth.

Fraught with interest Saline waited for D’ashan to enter the ring and add to the din. Turning to the Guard she waved, playing the student development card just in case the other had thoughts of stepping in and, morever, stopping the fight “hey . . . Edana. I was thinking, maybe we’ll let these three thrash it out for a while and join the next free-for-all. As you know, bonding occurs through crisis as do communication and so forth. So long as there is no fear or real harm done, our role as teachers could be restricted to those of facilitators and supervisors,” she paused, then added, "and so forth."

    D’Ashan & Saline

OOC: He will come in and try to take the blindfold, grab at it and yell 'Sneaky Uncle'd!' and fall on his rear as he misses. Feel free to rough him up a bit afterward.  ;D

Belig's eyebrows climbed a bit at Vanion's challenge and even higher still at the approach of another man in what looked like a sneaking around pose. Belig blinked and then felt the anger in his gut rise.  This guy deserves a good thumping, but I'll do it on my own. No honor in two against one.

As the man came closer Belig said smoothly, "Sir if you'd be so kind as to back away. This fight is between me and him, and I'd hate to thump on you for trying to bend the odds." Belig smiled as Vanion seemed to perk up at that, like he was just now noticing the mans presence. Then Belig struck. Focusing on Vanion, Belig began with a overhead strike towards Vanions head which was blocked, but then Belig pivoted into a hook leg spin that brought Vanions foot forward and opened up his side for a couple of strikes. Taking the advantage, Belig brought the edge of his shield into vanions back with strong force forcing vanion forward, then Belig quickly swung up his knee to rise right into Vanions rear to send the man flying.

"Fast you may be, but I'm no slouch either. You may be able to fight blind, but can you fight unexpectedly?" Belig then rushed forward as vanion picked himself up and planted his foot between the man's shoulder blades. "Take this off and fight me like a real warrior!" Belig reached down and yanked vanions blindfold free then quickly picked up his lathe and jumped back a few paces.

"Now the field is fair and I wont have to watch your back for you." Belig glanced over the man who stood there looking like he ate a sour fig. "You can have him after I'm done"

OOC: Hope this is ok Vanion, I know you wanted multiple opponents and to be blindfolded.  ;D Either way, good conflict.

D'Ashan dropped from his stealthy crouch with a disapointed slump as the shielded man announced his presence.  "Sir if you'd be so kind as to back away. This fight is between me and him, and I'd hate to thump on you for trying to bend the odds..."

Thump him? His eyebrow rose for a moment as the man struck the blindfolded one, utilizing the distraction. To D'Ashan's dismay the shielded man spouted some drivel and tore the blindfold leaving it to flutter to the ground with D'Ashan's hopes for a free lunch. The sheilded man looked at him while the now unblindfolded man blinked in the sudden light. "You can have him after I'm done." He declared, bending to pick up the cloth. D'Ashan took the chance to slip a leg under the man wrestling him to the ground. Grasping for the cloth and fighting the man for it he got a fist in his ribs and gave one himself. Apparently this was no simple training.

Like all tussles in the Yard, it felt like ages but took mere seconds. With the cloth finally wrested from the man, he briefly considered teaming up with the previously blindfolded trainee and teaching the arrogant trainee a lesson. Dismissing that idea with a grin he waved the cloth above his head.

"Me Lady's Token!" He called, Saline merely shook her head though. He knew it wouldn't count since the other man had been the one to remove it. An idea sparked in his head.

"My good sir let me aid you in your fight against a poor defenseless blind man. There is no need to feel embarassed that you need help!" Without waiting for a reaction, he dropped to one knee. Hurrying he retied it somewhat sloppily, jumping back and gesturing grandly to Saline. She looked as if she wanted to laugh.

Wasting no time he danced back a few paces, snatching a couple training lathes from the nearby rack. Dropping easily into a defensive stance he called, "My name is D'Ashan and one on two hardly seems fair, especially since you are currently blindfolded. However, I am hungry so if you would like to continue I am happy to assist."

Edana fought really hard not to laugh. She sent D'Ashan a jaunty wave and shook her head as Belig offered to let him back up and not get hurt. She smirked, though, shaking her head at his pluck. He'd realize his error sooner or later, she was sure.

She eyed the ensuing skirmish with the eye of a referee, having to bite her lip to keep from laughing outright more than once. She'd seen nothing of the like since walking through the gate behind them and she held up her hands.

"Oh, please do wait..." she laughed, stepping a few feet away and lowering herself to the ground to watch. She laid a lathe in front of her with a pompous ceremony and shook her head to loosen her neck muscles. When she was done, she smirked up at the three before her. "Pray continue. If I'd known I was in for a comedy, I'd have sold tickets to watch! Light knows my purse could use some extra lining."

She traced the edge of the lathe before her, a silent gesture to let them know she was more than happy to even up the odds should the need arise.

Shaking his head and pushing his anger down firmly, he couldn't help but wonder what this fascination was with the fact he fought blindfolded.

Fine... they wanted to see what he could do without it? So be it...

Taking the black scarf, he tied it around the pommel of his wooden katana, the ends flaring out in the breeze. Without warning, he suddenly exploded into motion. Catching D'Ashan off guard with Unfolding the Fan, taking him solidly in the gut, he then spun around him, using his own forward momentum to his advantage as he hooked the flat of his katana underneath the man's chin, pulling back hard to throw him on his back.

Quickly pivoting on the ball of his right foot, he then launched himself at Belig.

To hell with the sword training, he thought.

Waiting for Belig to raise his shield for the attack that was sure to come, he suddenly leaped off his forward leg, spinning in the air to strike the shield with that same foot, all his weight kicking down at the shield to force it out of the way. Reversing his grip on his wooden katana at the same time, he whipped his elbow out at the side of Beligs head, the wooden edge lying against his forearm to the elbow, Belig's lathe just catching it in time to avoid having his head split.

Landing on his feet again, he danced back and few steps, the katana still held in a reverse grip as he settled himself into an odd guard stance that allowed him to keep both of the other Trainees in his sight. The majority of his weight on his back leg, and his left hand slightly raised to fend off an strikes that may come through his center line.

"Anytime you are ready, gentlemen..."

Belig's eyebrows quirked as he saw vanions attack on the man who had joined the fray. Then with vanions sudden change towards Belig brought a smile. This guy has got some moves, and fights like a cornered wild cat. I like this, a odd foe always does make good training for the unexpected Belig began to circle vanion, eyes aware of the mans lathe and the other man who was picking himself up. What will that man do next? He won't be fighting for vanion anytime soon but I doubt the fool will fight with me either... And those two lathes may be more of a problem later on.

Belig brought his focus back to vanion and then smoothly went into action. Beligs sword darted out into a series of thrusts as vanion dodged or parried, then Belig quickly brought his shield up to block a strong blow from the mans side swing in that odd grip. Beligs thoughts seem to buzz in the back of his head as he moved through his own set of unique techniques. Belig began with a series of great sideways slashes that would do any farmer harvesting his fields with a scythe proud, keeping the pace up so that vanion had no chance to counter attack without a certainty of being hit himself. then belig quickly dropped down to one knee quickly and brought his shield up on a horizontal plain to catch a down swing from vanion and then belig brought himself up and forward so the edge of the shield would catch the man under the chin. As expected Vanion backed a pace up and then caught a strong stab to the gut as Beilgs lathe rammed home. Fool didn't realize that a shield is good for more than attack and defense, but for concealment. Belig's mind buzzed in eager cataloging of the successful strike. What should I call this? Belig then smiled as a named popped into his head. The Lion Pounces

Belig charged forward, not letting vanion get his second wind and moved for a rapid series of strikes. Vanion recovered quickly and blocked a couple of the blows but took a good amount of damage. Vanion seemed to grit his teeth as he then jumped and kicked belig square in the face. Belig cursed as he retreated a few steps with his shield up for cover to protect himself from vanions incoming attacks, the suddenly the other man was there and beligs eyes bulged. "What in the bloody blazes!?!"

OOC: Sorry guys, food poisoning is nasty business, this wont be much but it will get you through the weekend.

D'Ashan watched as the once blindfolded man preformed a series of moves and almost wondered what he had gotten himself into. Watching him tie the blindfold loosely onto the handle of his blade he had to suppress a grin. Hefting his two lathes and watching the exchange he waited for the right moment.

The man with the blindfold looked to be better in skill but D'Ashan hoped his two blades would throw him off balance. Whirling he presented one blade on the attack while constantly blocking with the other. Balance was his armor, speed his blade. The katana flashed out repeatedly as D'Ashan took the fight briefly from the shielded man. His opponent blocked slash after slash, thrust after thrust while tossing his own in here and there.

Suddenly launching a large sideways slash with his lead hand, he brought his offhand in too late and caught the man's katana in his gut. Dancing back he nodded to the man. He was good. Glancing at the shielded man he motioned with his head toward their opponent, indicating that they attack together to test his ability.

Without pause, belig stormed forward and closed distance between him and Vanion and repeatedly thrust forward his lathe, starting with the head then to the left, the gut, so on and so forth. Vanion managed to block a couple but then got a nasty surprise as the man with two lathes struck from behind with a rapid series of strikes to vanions back. Vanion jumped and rolled sideways to escape the onslaught but beligs partner kept up the pace, vanion was on the heavy defensive and backing up when belig rushed behind and dropped to a knee to swing his shield edgewise and slam it behind vanion's knee caps. Vanion went down like a sack of potatoes. Belig quickly brought his lathe equal to his opponents neck, pinning him to the ground.

"I do believe this ends this match. Drop the sword and admit defeat."

Edana lunged to her feet as the pair attacked Vanion, the lathe brandished in her hand. They'd dismissed her, which was rather foolish on their part. She turned, using the force of the motion to add the weight to her upward swing, forcing the lathe away from Vanion's throat and backing Belig up. "You would like to think so, wouldn't you?" She said, a smile on her lips.

"Truly? Two on one and the one was blindfolded? It took you that long to knock him down? Then you dismissed the onlooker, who clearly was armed, turning your backs to me, both of you." She sent a look to D'Ashan, too. She shook her head and reached down to help Vanion up. "I pity the Aes Sedai who trusts her safety to the pair of you, truly."

Sure it was a low blow, and she was sure there would be consequences. She tilted her head and smiled, the lathe ready in her hands once Vanion was on his feet. "What say we even the playing field a little? I'll even let you think you're at an advantage with the blindfold, if it pleases you..."

Even the playing field, eh? Sure... why not?

Tying the the black scarf around his eyes once more he smiled slightly.

Taking the wooden katana in his hand once more and settling into a guard stance, he turned his head towards the Tower Guard with a smile. "Ready when you are..."

Lunging at D'Ashan, Vanion suddenly twisted sideways, stomping down on D'Ashan's lead foot and trapping it as he threw his left elbow towards the mans face, his wood katana lancing our towards D'Ashan's gut at the same time, the trapped foot keeping him from retreating.

D'Ashan's eyebrows raised as Edana stepped in to counter the other man's brutal display. Belig was it? She shot a look at D'Ashan as well.

"I pity the Aes Sedai who trusts her safety to the pair of you, truly."

D'Ashan's eyes darkened angrily. Now that wasn't fair, the comment stung and was uncalled for. It was meant to only be fun and games. The blindfolded man was clearly the better and could handle the two of them. It was not as dishonorable as Edana made it sound. Anger burned in D'Ashan in response to Edana's unfair words.

Suddenly the blinded man was there, trapping his foot and on the attack. It caught D'Ashan off gaurd, brooding as he was. The man's elbow caught him below the eye and the Katana deflected just in time to pass harmlessly to one side. Taking the given oppurtunity, he grasped the blindfold and shoved the man hard. The man was in too close and off balance. The black cloth came free and the man fell backward to land on his rear. Tossing the cloth to Saline he threw his training lathes to the ground and stalked off.

"Sneaky Uncle'd" He muttered darkly, just loud enough for her to hear, as he stalked off toward the mess hall. Sure he was being a bit childish, sure he was reacting a little heatedly. However, he was hungry and Edana's words had hurt. Besides, the blow to the face still stung and he was sure he would have a deep bruise. Let them play their little game alone...

Edana eyed Belig as Vanion launched himself at D'Ashan. She shook her head at that, knowing she'd probably need to buy him a drink. If the look on that Aes Sedai's face was any indication, it would probably have to be a big one, too.

She smiled at Belig, shifting her lathe in her hand. "Come, then, let me show you a trick or two, so you don't land on your backside, anymore." She waved her hand at him, inviting him to attack. In a flash of motion, she had him on his back again. "Now, I'll show you how I did that and you how can keep it from happening again." She reached down to help him up, her eyebrows raised as she waited on him to accept it. "I promise, I will show you. You can trust me."

Belig blinked a couple of times after he landed on his rump. then with all the remaining patience, accepted the woman's hand for getting up. How had she... What happened there!?! I didn't see a thing! Belig fought the furious thoughts that popped up. He wasn't angry at the woman, she beat him fair a square. He was pretty angry about not seeing what she had done though.

"I thank you. You are indeed swift of blade and of wit." Belig's voice sounded as civil as anyone could be. "I definitely would like to see how that was done. I never saw it coming and that embarrassingly enough was a first for me. I'd be honored if you would teach me."  Belig looked over to Vanion who was blinking in the once again bright light of day light, and the man stalking off in a fury.

"though it appears that the lesson will wait for now. You should see to your friend, he appears to be... displeased... with your earlier comment." Belig felt the sting of that one too, but you take what you get and must not take everything so literally. Especially words of the heated moment. "I feel that maybe i should offer Vanion over there a few herbs for his bumps and bruises." He looked over to vanion to see if he caught the message.
