The Grand Final starts later tonight! ;)

This is a seriously tough choice as I like both pieces. So I think Ride of the Valkyries just edges it.

And finishing in 3rd place is Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries after a comprehensive 5-0 victory over Barber's Adagio for Strings.

Now it is time for the Grand Final to determine the overall winner!

The Grand Final

Jupiter by Gustav Holst

This is probably one of the most famous pieces of classical music out there. It comes from Holst's Planet Suite, which is a great piece of music for Classical beginners to listen to. Jupiter is known as the "Bringer of Joy", and that happy feeling is very much evident throughout the piece. For those of a keen ear, you will notice the same music as used for the hymn, I Vow To Thee My Country, which happens to be one of my favourite hymns - about 3 minutes into the piece.

vs.

O Fortuna by Carl Orff

Everyone knows of Carmina Burana, Carl Orff's famous cantata. And O Fortuna is the famous movement from the piece. Many artists, especially in the metal world of music, have performed the movement. It's a wonderful working of a large chorus and loud, bashful music (drums, cymbols). It works fantastically! And it's in Latin - even better!

And to kick off the voting, the M-G is voting for Jupiter. It's one of my favourite pieces of music, and I am glad it reached the final (especially after The Great Gate of Kiev got knocked out).

It's currently a 3-3 tie. I'll leave this up and running until the morning when I get into work...and hopefully someone else (tough luck if you have voted already!) will turn up and end this deadlock

While I copy all my pages from my accountancy course test, I can finalise this...finally!

In a rather close and drawn out final, Jupiter wins by 4 votes to 3 and is crowned the Champion.

Thank you to all those who took part. There will be another "It's A Knockout" shortly.
