Meria was in pain. Not physiclly, but mentally; she was still hurting from her parent's death. The only thing that kept here out of bed crying was the prospect of going to TarValon and becoming Aes' Sedai. The Shining Walls were in sight, Meria felt the happiest she had in her entire life, yet at the same time, she had a horrible sadness weighing her down. She could hardly breath; the sadness was clamping down on her. Meria felt as if her skin was far to tight and was afraid that she would burst into tears any moment.

The Aes' Sedai she was traveling with had tryed to comfort her many times, but it didn't help much. She was a kind woman, but had warned Meria that once her training started, their freindlyness would have to come to a hault. Meria understood, after all, how could you expect to be taken seriosly when you were giggling together. Meria could hardly immagine an Aes' Sedai giggling!

Meria was amazed at how tall the White Tower was! It was huge, and she would be living in it! The Aes' Sedai told Meria to follow, and so Meria did. She had no other option, her life depended on becoming Aes' Sedai, she had to or she would lose the only thing left in her life. Considering her options, she followed the woman.

Since time immemorial did Faerzyne Grigory find herself lifting her head for the briefest moment, turning her gaze to note brilliant white blossoms scudding across a pale blue sky. A faint whisper of conversations held far below came close to her hearing and despite it all, Faerzyne found herself straining to decipher those cryptic murmurings; to no avail. A gentle sigh escaped her then and she inclined her head somewhat. The many little bells attached to her braids in turn began to tingle softly. Yet even the bells sounded wearily, as though weighed down by some malevolent force. The Mistress of Novices stifled a yawn, reverting back onto the book of Novices.

Every subject worthy of note was recorded there, accompanied by minute inscriptions which represented the voices of her hidden thoughts. The ups of an extended life that had already lived through too many murky events & matters of dark intrigue was that she had been gifted much time to develop an extensive collection of codes for personal usage. Another Accepted had ventured into the rings last night, and emerged triumphant as a person who had recently seen her past flicker pass, feel the last roots of her heritage cleared away for the destiny she was about to step into. The event had been recorded in her fine handwriting, and sadness bloomed when she realised how long it had been since the last raising had been held. Soon enough, the girl would be presented to a congregated mass of sitters for her choosing of Ajah; an almost symbolic act that dated back to ages long entombed beneath dust. Only then would the final stage be completed and the child’s fate truly entwined with that of the Tower. Her choice was hardly ambiguous to Faerzyne, as were few things concerning novices and accepteds.

Hazel eyes sharply noted the way her slender fingers so casually slipped between pages, lightly touching the sheets tightly bounded in leather. It was almost reminiscent of a dance, her hand travelling and touching every part of the book intimately, confidently. They were hypnotic movements that had in the past, seemed to hint at something more foreboding towards others. Faerzyne could almost claim to know the book better than she did her fellow sisters of the Grey. The oversized book was shut with a resounding thud. The book was a little worn for age, but the reservation wards set deeply into it did their task well. And it never seemed to fill up. Faerzyne had once paged through it on a whim, and located her own name, as well as that of the Mistress of Novices before her jotted down in distinctly florid set of handwriting. That woman had served this office for a longer time than she; an easy thing to determine.

It was of some amusement to be privy to information jealously guarded by many before her, privileged enough to know of things most sisters would sacrifice much to know. The period some had taken to be raised, of the length of time they had spent within the confines of the tower. This remained a book that held treasures of delightfully unexpected knowledge and her only regret was the lack of time to spend perusing the book. A tinge wistfully, Faerzyne peered at the sun again and judged the day still young and open to developments. She would rather that there were less feisty children to deal with lest mental exhaustion come besiege her nights as it often did these days. The rate of accomplished pranks had soared and so she had been increasingly vigilant in the setting of wards on the door to the office, nasty traps for whatever evil that lurked by. The simple wards would sound even when the night lingered its darkest.

Coincidentally, a tingling sensation then crept over her skin warned of approaching figures, quickly followed by that of a sharp knock of knuckles against oak. The lack of drapery allowed the sound to reverberate and she drew knowledge even from that sound and settled herself into an appropriate frame of mind. Experience & time had let this reaction to become almost instinctive, half of her already prepared for whatever that awaited. “Enter,†she intoned softly, a slim thread of air channelled to open the door. She rose imperiously from her seat, hands carelessly brushing the sides of her copper dress of Andoran cut. The opposing young woman was dressed in clothing that hinted her lack of relations with the ivory tower, for now. “I am Faerzyne Sedai, Mistress of Novices at the White Tower. How may I help you?â€

ooc: thanks for posting I thought that I was waiting outside though, not invited into your office. Oh well, a few ajustments will fix that.

IC: Meria had never imagined that she could ever feel such a sadness. There was a horrible weight of misery dragging at her as she was lead to... somewhere... Meria had no idea where they were going. During this time of pure torture, Meria felt the most specific things, and was oblivious to the more general things.

As they were walking, Meria did not feel the steps, did not hear the sound of their feet against the stone floors. Instead, she felt the whisper of wind brushing gently across here exposed face; she heard the buzzing of an insect flying, trying to find its next meal. Before the thought of Tar Valon and the White Tower were enough to put the spring back into her step, and the smile onto her face. Now that she was finally here, Meria realized that her parents would not suddenly jump out from the corridors and shout, "Boo!"

Meria felt her face begin to tighten and screw up. Tears were forming in her eyes; no, she would not cry, she would be strong. Meria did not want her first impression at the Tower to be as a child who would become teary at times. These thoughts helped, a little. Meria sighed, she had thought the Aes’ Sedai had given her life back, no, she had just given Meria a pretty fancy to grasp onto while the Aes’ Sedai tried to teach her what she could, and would, learn.

Meria realized then that it wasn’t enough to make pitiful goals, such as to become Aes’ Sedai that way she could protect herself and her loved-ones. No, she knew now that to live, her goal must be an absolute obsession. Meria silently swore, on the strongest oath that she knew, that she would become Aes’ Sedai, and she would bring justice to everyone. Meria would not just catch a few petty crooks, she would dedicate her life to bringing justice and rights to everyone. She would not just sit around and watch people be oppressed!

When they arrived at their destination, the woman Meria was traveling with knocked on the door, “Enter†she heard from the other side. There the Aes’ Sedai left her alone; alone and friendless, ready to make her new life, she was ready. “I am Faerzyne Sedai, Mistress of Novices at the White Tower. How may I help you?†The woman said. Meria summoned up all of her courage and said, “I am Meria Lutenara, and I am to become a Novice, I have been told that I can wield Saidar.â€

There was nothing left to do, but still Meria was left feeling like she should say more. Her heart told her to continue, but her mind told her to stop. Meria’s mind prevailed over her childish desires; after all, she had left her heart behind at the Andoran village she used to call home. Meria had no home now, no family but still she stood, ready to have a new beginning to a new life.

Ooc: Lovely post. Thanks for having been so patient.

Primly did Faerzyne gesture towards the few empty chairs that awaited her visitors before her desk. Hard seatings that would cause even herself to wince after some time and certainly a far cry from the lush, well padded sofas those of the shawl had grown well accustomed to. Numerous unpleasant dialogues had been put to another day with an interesting array of excuses, from urgent personal matters to those who were more outspoken. Nonetheless, the outcomes also proved the same. A small sense of satisfaction came upon hearing the girl’s words, pleasure that her instincts could be relied upon. “Well done then, child. The first phrase is completed.â€

Signalling the girl towards a seat, she folded her hands elegantly upon the surface of the table and studied the subject intently for a long moment. Many had endured this brazen display of scrutiny with a meek bowing of heads and those with enough spine to look into her eyes soon averted their gaze elsewhere. She was their crossway, the person who would lay the foundations of their future or have the power to fling all those dreams back in their faces; wasted hopes that would crumble into murky oblivion. At least Meria had been tested, which eliminated the possibility of a child leaving her office weeping with disappointment. Even so, such occurrences were rare, with the Aes Sedai suffering more than their fair share of distorted myths. The presence of the three oaths which limited them in so many ways; those were the things others casually dismissed, or simply never registered in their minds due to a chorus of reasoning. Few saw the Tower’s inhabitant in a kindly light.

“Now comes the time to make your stay a touch more permanent.†Her hand instinctively reached out for the leather-bound book that lay sweetly within easy reach and she was soon flipping through the pages. A feather-tipped pen was dipped into a small jar of ink, precise & economical movements that were executed purely out of instinct, habit, shadowed memories. Tension seemed to heighten during the time it took for her to reach the desired page, but it barely affected Faerzyne. Small grace that the girl was offering her little trouble and demands thus far; she should not find it too trying fitting into the Tower hierarchy. “Full name, place of birth and raising, as well as your age.†Every written word sealed the girl even more to the ivory tower and again, a sense of déjà vu alighted upon her.

“Welcome to the White Tower, child. May the Light favour you always.â€

Meria watched as the Mistress of Novices studied her for a moment, then gestured to a seat. It was a hard, wooden chair which she knew would make her cringe. At least, it would have before her parents’ deaths. Meria doubted that she would even notice it now; she was growing accustom to pain, she did not go seeking for it, but she would not run from it either.

She was not the young, carefree girl that she used to be. Sadness was hitting her in waves; her wound was still fresh even though her parents died a month ago. Meria was not sure that she would ever truly recover, but she was willing to give it her best effort. Meria raised her head with pride; it was time to leave her past and her pain behind. As she knew, it was time to make a new life. She could not make a new life with her old one haunting her. She had to leave everything of her home behind.

“Full name, place of birth and raising, as well as your age.†The Mistress of Novices was inquiring of her past. Meria summoned up all of the courage left inside her, and spoke simply, “My name is Meria Lutenara, I was born in Northern Andor, and my next name-day will be my eighteenth.†With those words, she left her past completely behind. There was no turning back; she could only move forward. “Welcome to the White Tower, child. May the Light favour you always.â€

It was time to move forward with her life, no more dwelling in the past, no more grieving. It was time, time to move on, time to become Aes’ Sedai.

ooc: not the best post, but nothing really jumped out at me this time.

Penning a quick note before rising from her seat at the desk, braids tinkling softly due to the bells entwined around them, Faerzyne passed the note to a novice in the hall, with instructions it be delivered post haste. Closing the door once more, she collected two dressed in white from a large cupboard by the wall and handed them to Meria.

"These are yours now child, you are to keep them well mended and clean at all times." Sitting fluidly once more, she clasped her hands before her on the desk. "I have sent a note for your mentor to join us, but until she arrives, let us discuss the rules, shall we?" Watching as Meria took it all in, Faerzyne explained what was expected of the girl, of the curfew, classes, chores, and general day to day life at the tower.

A soft knock on the door sounded just as Faerzyne was finishing, no doubt announcing the arrival of the mentor. "Enter." She called, waving in the woman and greeting her with a nod.

ooc: ok, since my mentor (nynaeve) should be posting now, this will just be a short one. (it seems that the MoN is switching very often.

IC: Meria listened intently as the Mistress of Novices spoke. "These are yours now child, you are to keep them well mended and clean at all times." Sitting fluidly once more, she clasped her hands before her on the desk. "I have sent a note for your mentor to join us, but until she arrives, let us discuss the rules, shall we?" Meria listened intently and heard as there was a knock on the door. She turned her head to face the door, and the Mistress spoke: "Enter." Meria wished to see who would come in.

Nynaeve strolled back and forth in the infirmary room. Thinking. Measuring every fault against advantage. Healing was a gift she had learned to master. But with it came a big responsibility. Deciding over people's life. Healing was not some magical force she had inside of her. She had to use her energy, as much as the patient's. At times, there wasn't the certainty that the patient's energy was enough. And that was when a hard decision had to be made. It weighed on her.

The Yellow Sedai at her side watched her intently. "You've delved her, just as I did, Nynaeve. Her odds aren't good. Her baby's are even slimmer. If we let this escalate they both will die. Let us at least save the mother. The baby is too weak to stand this as it is. You know it. You're just not willing to utter it. Let us proceed." Nynaeve eyed Simon for a long moment. Then nodded. Simon didn't tell her anything she didn't know. But she said it. Somehow it felt as if she took the weigh of decision off of Nynaeve. Just a little.

Nynaeve watched Simon as she started producing the healing weaves. Simon didn't need her assistance. She was powerful enough in healing, so Nynaeve stepped out. She needed some air. But as she existed the Infirmary, a Novice planted herself in front of her. She gave her a note, curtsied and then left hurriedly, not even saying a word. Nynaeve raised an eyebrow and made a mental note to give that specific Novice a delicious chore tomorrow. Too busy for an Aes Sedai? The thought of it alone was ridiculous.

Nynaeve read the short note and started her way towards the Mistress of Novice's study. On her arrival, she knocked on the door. A response came immediately and she entered. "Farezyne", said Nynaeve and nodded in acknowledgement. There was no need to scan the room. Nynaeve knew there was another person in the room before she even knocked on the door. Being summoned by the Mistress of Novices could only mean one thing.

"You have called for me and here I am, Sister."

Faerzyne nodded as Nynaeve Sedai entered the room, a sign of respect among equals. "You have called for me and here I am, Sister."Faerzyne allowed a tiny smile to curve her lips. "Indeed, and your prompt response is most appreciated, sister." She waved a hand towards Meria, seated somewhat nervously on the wooden chair before your desk.

"This is our newest novice, Meria. I trust you will mentor her during her time here, and let her know all she needs to know?" Faerzyne raised a brow, not in question but more seeking to see acceptance of her demand. Finding no argument, she continued on.

"I have given her a brief rundown of life in the tower, but I trust you shall fill in anything I have neglected. I leave her in your capable hands, Nynaeve Sedai." Waving a hand briefly in dismissal, she waited quietly for them to leave her, before returning once more to the task at hand.

Nynaeve motioned Meria to follow her out and they both left the Mistress of Novice's study. That room brought back many memories and Nynaeve preferred to avoid it as much as possible. Meria was briefed by the Mistress of Novices prior to Nynaeve's arrival so there was no point in delaying there anyway.

Nynaeve started leading Meria to the Novice quarters. While they were making way, she spoke softly. "You'll find that when need be I will be strict, child. As strict as you need me to be. Abide the rules and act respectfully and my strictness will subside. Do the opposite and well... You'll discover a whole new Nynaeve." Nynaeve gave Meria a significant look and carried on. "Whenever an Aes Sedai approaches you or even just passes you by you will curtsy and when speaking to an Aes Sedai you will always use title. Remember this and you will be spared many chores and ache."

Nynaeve stopped next to a room. "This will be your home for a very long time, child. Learn to appreciate it even if it seems small and insignificant at times. I will leave you now to settle in. I will be back at noon to show you around the Tower. There is much I want you to see. Welcome to the White Tower, Meria." Nynaeve eyed Meria for a moment until the Novice finally realized. She curtsied and murmured 'Aes Sedai'. Nynaeve turned around and headed to her quarters.

OOC: lets just start a new thread where Nynaeve picks you up? :)

ooc: ok, sorry for the delay everyone *shakes head* lots going on right now. anyway, no idea what how to start the new thread, unless you already have and I just missed it *sighs*

IC: Meria was suprised as the Aes' Sedai spoke. Remember this and you will be spared many chores and ache." Meria gave as start and was stirred from her sad thoughts.

Light, her parent's deaths were spinning around in her head, her father being stabbed, and then her mother. Why couldn't they have killed her too? What life was this? What life where she had to replay the death of the only people she had ever loved over and over again? What was the point in waking up every day to find that her nightmares were not just nightmares?

The Aes' Sedai who was to be Meria's mentor stopped beside a door. "This will be your home for a very long time, child. Learn to appreciate it even if it seems small and insignificant at times. I will leave you now to settle in. I will be back at noon to show you around the Tower. There is much I want you to see. Welcome to the White Tower, Meria."

Meria snapped out of her depressive thoughts once again and realized what she was supposed to do. She curtsied and murmured "Aes'Sedai," and entered her room and her new life.

Ogres, of all the things in the world to read about, she was reading about Ogres. They were facinating to her, the gardeners of the world. She had heard of the Ogre groves before coming to the tower, but all she knew is that they were very good gardeners. She had since realized that they were so much more than that. I wonder if one day I'll meet an Ogre in person. I wonder if...

Just then the door to her room opened and took Taei by total surprise. Looking up from her book she was prepaired to jump up and curtsey when she noticed that the woman that had entered the room was wearing dusty travel clothes and carrying two novice dresses and a satchel of her belongings. A roomate, intersting.

Standing up to be polite she noticed the woman really for the first time. She was only slightly taller than the woman, which meant that she herself was considered tall. She was very slender yet not overly so. Her eyes and hair were dark and striking against her complexion. She figured that when she smiled she was considered quite beautiful by most men. However, it seemed, that her face was perminately frowning. Or at least that's what her features portrayed. Taei sensed a deep sadness of some sort under the surface. "Hello. I'm Taei." Curious as to how this jesture of good faith would be responded to she waited.

OOC: Hope that it's all right. :) And if you do decide to start another thread, just let me know.
