Curtain arrangement help ...

Recommended Posts

Hi guys - I was wondering if any of you out there with more DIY skills than me (not a difficult thing to achieve, believe me) could give me some advice on something!

So: after 8 months of living in a room without curtains, I decided to finally change that. The problem is that I live in a university dorm, where we’re not allowed to screw or nail anything to the wall. I’ve tried to use hooks that you stick to the wall, but they can’t support the full weight of the curtains. And my window is triangular – they don’t sell triangular curtains. Plus just to make things even easier, the walls of my room stick out in odd places. So, here’s the curtain arrangement at the moment – you can see the odd angle of the walls, and how my makeshift curtains are currently held up. Please ignore the mess!  :-[

So, does anyone have any ideas for a triangular curtain arrangement that doesn’t involve screws, nails, or wedging books into the windowsill ...? It usually stays up like it is, but it does tend to fall down occasionally, plus it looks a little silly like this :P I'd really appreciate it! *offers vanilla milkshakes and white chocolate cookies as an incentive*

I used thumbtacks to hold my curtains up when I was in college. The holes were small enough that the RA didn't notice them when it was time to move out.

Perhaps you could buy attractive paper weights to weigh down the curtains? Or find pretty rocks?

I am assuming you aren't allowed to cover the windows with anything like paper or tinfoil.

Oooh. Here's a thought. I assume you just want to block the light at night when you're sleeping or changing.  What if you took a piece of foam core and painted or drew something pretty on it? Or maybe a collage? Then you could put away during the day when you don't need it.

I kinda like it, but it is unusual. Kathana's idea is a good one. But if you don't want to draw or paint on the foam core, you might could upholster it with the curtain fabric. If it won't stand up to that, thin plywood or mdf upholsters well.  :)

Ooh, I like the plywood/foam core idea! That should block the light pretty well if I put the curtain fabric on it (oh, the joy of living in that part of the world where the sun doesn't set for 5-6 weeks in the summer! :P), I think I'll start hunting for the stuff I need for it. I may post a picture once I've got it sorted, thanks so much for the help! :)

duct tape works WONDERS!!!!!  *is tempted to post my poem about duct tape*

anyways, they sell hooks that are adhesive; they will only stick to the wall.  at worst it will pull the paint off when removed.  try Wal-Mart or Home Depot/Lowes or some place similar to find them.

it looks like you have something close to hooks on the frame already.  have you tried getting or make-shifting a curtian rod to fit it?  with a rod and a bit of sowing you might be able to solve your problem.
