WoT Casting Call - Who is Thom Merrilin?

Hey gang,

 

We've probably been there done that with the whole casting thing, but here are some ideas for Thom Merrilin that stuck in my mind while reading the books.  Who do you all think would make the best Thom Merrilin if they ever made a WoT series, in whatever form it may be?

 

Thom #1

Hal Hollbrook

 

Why he should be Thom: He has the look, build, and a gleeman's smile.  He still has the acting chops, (see Into the Wild) and he has an extensive Broadway background, he can speak HIGH CHANT.

 

Why he shouldn't be Thom: Stunts may need to be CGI or a good stunt double, he's 83 years old.

 

Thom #2

Billy Connolly

 

Why he should be Thom: He is under 70, has a good charm. the look, and has an extensive resume.

 

Why he shouldn't be Thom: Could he capture Thom's charm or would he play more like the crazy characters he has done in the past?

 

Thom #3

Sean Connery

Why he should be Thom: He's Sean Connery!

Why he shouldn't be Thom: He's Sean Connery....I mean, he might overshadow the Thom character and the other actors.  It would become a Connery movie (see League of Ordinary Gentlemen). 

 

Thom #4

Burt Reynolds

 

Why he should be Thom: Let's face it, Thom and Burt are very similar people.  Both were very popular with the ladies in their youth, and still are in their twilight years. 

 

Why he shouldn't be Thom: Would he take he roll seriously?

 

So, who do you Wheel of Timers feel would be the best Thom?

for a second there, i thought that first guy was a rendition of the actual thom merrilin character.

I'd agree, but I never imagined Thom as a cowboy, and I'm not sure Sammy knows how to be anything else.  He was just in a fantasy themed movie AS a cowboy.
