Personal WOT soundtrack

It's curious---for me at least---that I only one musical association with WoT.

 

This is to the passage at the outset of <i>The Fires of Heaven</i> (in ``Fanning the Sparks'') where Lord Bryne reflects on what he thinks will be the fate of House Bryne:

 

  He would fight no more wars, but it was too late for House

  Bryne. There had been too many wars, too many battles.  He

  was the last of the blood. No wife, no son, no daughter. The

  line ended with him. All things had to end; the Wheel of

  Time turned.

I posted this quote a while back as an example of one of RJ's little jokes at the expense of his characters---tho' in this case, since Bryne is setting off in pursuit of ``Mara Tomanes'', you would think it might occur to him that there might be an heir in the offing after all. [by convention Blues do not marry, but one has the feeling that both Moiraine and Siuan are going to break that convention---the former at least since she says as much to Egwene <i>el al</i> early on in <i>The Shadow Rising</i>.]

 

In any case, the music is a small passage that occurs once or twice in the original Star Trek series. My recollection is from ``The Doomsday Machine'', as Commodore Decker is describing the fate of his crew as the planet they beamed down to was destroyed by the eponymous monstrosity of the episode.

I mentioned then earlier, but if you haven't checked them, do it now. Wintersun, Death and the Healing, tell me there isn't half a hundred places in the books where this song would be perfect.

This is a great background theme song for when they enter Shadar Logoth.  Creepy yet exciting...almost sounds a bit like Lord of the Rings meets Battlestar Galactica!
