What would go on your personal WOT soundtrack.

For me there's -

March Cambreadth: Makes me think of the fall of Manetheren and Malkier

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5G3KNDWB2JY (ignore the FF10 video in the background)

By Heather Alexander:

Axes flash, broadswords swing

Shining armors’ piercing ring

Horses run with polished shield

Fight those bastards ‘til they yield

Midnight mare, blood red roan

Fight to keep this land your own

Sound the horn and call the cry

How many of them can we make die?

Follow orders as you’re told

Make their yellow blood run cold

Fight until you die or drop

A force like ours is hard to stop

Close your mind to stress and pain

Fight ‘til you’re no longer sane

Let not one damn cur pass by

How many of them can we make die?

Guard your women and children well

Send these bastards back to Hell

We’ll teach them the ways of war

And they won’t come here anymore

Use your shield and use your head

Fight ‘til everyone is dead

Raise the flag up to the sky

How many of them can we make die?

Dawn has broke, the time has come

Move your feet to the marching drum

We’ll win the war and pay the toll

Fight as one in heart and soul

Midnight mare and blood red roan

Fight to keep this land your own

Sound the horn and call the cry

How many of them can we make die?

Axes flash, broadswords swing

Shining armors’ piercing ring

Horses run with polished shield

Fight those bastards ‘til they yield

Midnight mare and blood red roan

Fight to keep this land your own

Sound the horn and call the cry

How many of them can we make die?

How many of them can we make die?

How many of them can we make die?

Sparks of the Tempest. Makes me think of the collapse, the war of power and the breaking of the world.

By Kansas:

The sparks of the tempest rage a hundred years on

The voice of the dreamer screams, the cause of the pawn

The King and the Queen are gone, each piece is the same

The difference between us is a part of the game

Darkness is spreading like a spot on the sun

The dead are the living in the age of the gun

While everyone clamors for the justice they seek

The world is corrupted and the strong take the weak

They mold you and shape you, they watch what you do

The sparks of the tempest are burnin' you through

Spreading like wildfire, fallin' like rain

Though they may promise, they only bring pain

The future is managed, and your freedom's a joke

You don't know the difference as you put on the yoke

The less that you know the more you fall into place

A cog in the wheel, there is no soul in your face

Run for the cover, Millennium's here

Bearing the standard of confusion and fear

Spreading like wildfire, fallin' like rain

Though they may promise, they only bring pain

Blood in the sand, a cry in the street

Now the cycle is nearly complete

Ten thousand years, and nothing was learned

No turning back, now the wheel has turned

Big Brother is watching and he likes what he sees

A world for the taking, when he's ready to squeeze

The King and the Queen are gone, each piece is the same

The difference between us is a part of the game

Soothsayer saying now tell me no lies

What is this madness that is filling the skies

Spreading like wildfire, fallin' like rain

Though they may promise, they only bring pain

When I read TEOTW Soundgarden's Blackhole Sun always comes to mind when the gang is leaving the Two Rivers.

Wow, great minds think alike.  Below are the playlists on my Ipod (compatible) that I had been listening to while reading each of the books, adding and deleting some songs as I progressed.  I do hear that an artist has an original WOT soundtrack recorded inspired by the books.

LOTR Soundtrack (Nasgul, Shire theme, etc..good stuff!)

Raiders of the Lost Ark (Somehow, Mat seems to ooze Indiana Jones to me)

March of the Slave Children - Temple of Doom soundtrack

Gettysburg Soundtrack (great battle music)

Oh Shenandoah (great soldier marching music)

Hunt for Red Oktober Soundtrack (The Seanchan theme song)

Last of the Mohicans (Great Perrin theme!! Also works for the Aiel!)

Thriller - Michael Jackson (gives Shadar Logoth a whole different feel!)

Syncronicity II - The Police

Safety Dance - Men w/o Hats

Shame - Stabbing Westward (good "Rand brooding" song)

Volcano Girls - Veruca Salt (Nynaeve, Elane, and Egwene...and later Birgitte)

Blaze of Glory - Bon Jovi

Wanted Dead or Alive - Bon Jovi

Sultans of Swing - Dire Straights

Brothers in Arms - Dire Straights (Ta'Veren theme song - listen to the opening lyrics)

Romeo & Juliet - Dire Straights

Enter Sandman - Metallica (Enter Trollocs! Battle at Two Rivers!)

I Stay Away - Alice in Chains

Them Bones - Alice in Chains

Beautiful Day - U2

Crush - Dave Matthews Band

Space Between - Dave Matthews Band

Lovesong - The Cure

The Necromancer - Rush (Can't have a Fantasy soundtrack without Rush!)

Most Obscure SONG: Gangrel's WWF Theme! Gangrel was a lesser known wrestler in the WWF that was supposed to be some kind of vampire or something.  He didn't last long but he did have an entrance theme song.  I know, odd song to have but check it out and tell me it doesn't make a great Forsaken theme song.

Anyways, check out those songs and check out whoever it was that made a WOT original soundtrack.  I hope that if they ever do make a WOT series, they use some good John Williams stuff.

What do you have on your WOT playlist?

My WoT play list includes but is not limited to:

-Final Fantasy 7 and Advent Children soundtracks. Aeris' theme is so good.

-The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the kakariko village song. reminds me of the Two Rivers.

-Star Wars Episode 3 and 6 music. So epic!

-Red Hot Chili Peppers, Otherside.

-And certain songs from Tool, Deftones, A Perfect Circle, and Team Sleep.

...plenty more.

I have never connected any modern music to WOT, electric guitars etc does not quite fit with the setting.

Most of the time I have traditional folk music in my head, mostly Irish and Scandinavian.

But lately I have been starting to shift towards including classical music for some battlescenes. Lacrimosa (from Mozarts Requiem) for Rands campaign against the Seanchan in Illian for example. Or Dies Irae for Dumais Wells.

I have made a bunch of cd's featuring instrumental tracks from many death/black/power/prog/folk/viking metal bands.

Check out:

Falkenbach- Ok Nefna Tysbar Ty  (Viking metal, clean vox)

Einherjer- Odin Owns Ye All  (Viking metal, clean vox)

While Heaven Wept- Of Empires Forlorn  (epic, doom metal, GREAT vox)

Twisted Tower Dire- Crest of the Martyrs  (traditional power metal, fantastic singer)

Manowar- Warriors of the World/Dawn of Battle  (KINGS OF METAL, at times a bit cheesy but music made for the warrior)

Old man's Child- Born of the Flickering  (dark black metal, music for Shadar Logoth

Ulver- Bergtatt (black metal w/ lots of norse folk influence, clean and evil vox) and Kveldsvanger (pure folk/classical, subdued, all clean vox)

For Rand and Rand only:

Neaera - I Love The World

Worse than Pain

Is the Pain You Can't Feel Anymore

Harder than the Truth

Is the Lies You Don't See

Bitterer than the Tears

Are the Tears You Can't Shed Anymore

Worse, Than a Weak Mind

Is a Dead and Cold Heart

Sometimes You Must Embrace the Sorrow

To Recieve the Cleansing

To Shores of Joy We Sail

Through Seas of Suffering and Pain

To Woods of Harmony We Ride

Through Valleys of Death and Unlight

Deeper and Deeper Into the Abyss

Higher and Higher to the Sky

If there was no Darkness

How Could We See the Light?

Worse than Grief

Is the Grief You Can't Feel Anymore

Worse than a Weak Mind

Is a Dead and Cold Heart

Sometimes You Must Embrace the Darkness

When You Seek Light

Sometimes You Must Let Go

To Keep Holding Tigh

Within temptations "never ending story" just springs into my mind when i read those books.

When i read about the Searcans i can't stop thinking about the imperial march theme from Star wars, some of Man-o-war's songs are very good at the battles, such as Fight for freedom.

Rasta!

I figured you of all people would have some Whalers and Peter Tosh mixed in there.  Downpresser Man, No Woman No Cry, One Love....

Bob Marley and the Wailers (Whalers? reading Moby Dick, or what? :)) have got plenty that could fit also, you're right:

Da'covale - 'Bend Down Low' (Seanchan version) and 'Get Up Stand Up' (Elayne/Nyneave version)

any Arafellin - 'Natty Dread'

Tuatha'an - 'One Love/Running Away/Keep On Moving' medley

Forsaken - 'Rat Race'

Ishamael - 'Natural Mystic'

Birgitte - 'Waiting In Vain'

Masemas' Dragonsworn - 'Burning and Looting'

whole Randland theme - 'So  Much Trouble In The World' (pre-TG) and 'No More Trouble' (post-TG)

for Aiel the best song IMO is Epica - Fools of damnation.

The music and singing and general sound sounds very... egyptian? or desert like (at least in my mind) :P

The lyrics match pretty well too, specially the chorus (fool, dance with me againm i am your agony, i will never set you free);)
