Do you lie like and Aes Sedai?

I just caught myself doing this and I now realize I have been doing this for a while and got it from reading the books.

Someone asked me a question and I knew they were not going to like the answer I gave.  I did not want to be considered "in the wrong", so I answered just like an Aes Sedai would.  I completely avoided a direct answer to the question and sent them off in another direction without telling a lie at all!  After I did it, I felt a little ashamed, but convinced myself it was okay, because I did not lie - and if what I said caused them to think differently, it was not my fault.

Since reading the books over and over, in Real Life, I seem consider my answers to questions more carefully now.  I seem to go over things in my head and answer the way I want to, based on how I want to direct the person I am answering.

Has this happened to anyone else?  I know I get this from the books and the Aes Sedai - I hope.  But it does seem easy to manipulate conversations sometimes.....ahhhhh!

Nah, whats the point in lying as an Aes Sedai? It's more of a hassle, and people will still consider it a lie.

If I have to lie, I just flat out lie. That way I can also make it more likely that whoever I lie to never finds out.

I do indeed do this often, it's sort of a game for me. I will try not to lie outright anymore if at all possible but it can be fun making the truth "dance on its head" like the Aes Sedai do >:P

I do this a lot, since i'm not that assertive and usually just make up excuses, or promise i'll do stuff later.

I swear my mom has ESP though, she can always tell when i'm hiding something just by looking at my face and the way i act.

*reads up on the Daes Dae'Mar chapters*

I have done it plenty times. I sometimes do it to confuse people.

"But you said you didn't have one"

"I don't I have 2"

Lame example i know but its all i could think of off the top of my head.

Well, i have to admit it's great if you want to keep a secret, or don't want to spoil the surprise.

It also has you play a great villain in an RP, the kind that joins the good guys with a hidden agenda and gets them to do everything he/she wants... While letting them think they're running the show ^_^

I do too but it's tricky because people seldom remember your exact phrasing but they do remember what you made them believe. Which they consider (rightly so) to be a lie.

So unless you can play dumb afterwards and pretend you thought they had understood it correctly, a flat out lie is more useful.

Another Aes Sedai habit that I tried to copy when I first read the books years ago was (no, NOT gliding!) their frosty demeanour and smooth features that betray none of what they think/feel.

I know it's silly but I was a teen and it seemed so cool ^^

Did you do any such thing?

I have noticed that since reading the books I have a greater reluctance to lie. I also wind my mum up quite a bit with the "Aes Sedai face" during an "argument" when only she is raising her voice. *laughs* It's rather funny..

"lying" like an aes sedai is called bending the truth, cause if they could lie they would be black ajah. and i think i have mastered bending the truth, i dont only bend it, i twist, and break it. i slice dice, and tie it knots that no one can understand it is the basics to politics and well most of my life... not that im in politics but "lying like an aes sedai" is the backbone for Dais Da Mar (the great game).

I personally think that RJ studied the art of Politicians when creating the Aes Sedai, and their 'speak no untruth'. Politicians dont LIE exactly, but they rarely mean precisely what they say.

I do it sometimes, but only if i want to be able to backtrack later;

eg in the middle of an argument;

"You said you'd never been there!"

"No, I said I wouldnt go there if i was going to do THAT, I never said I hadnt been there at all!"

my favorite is answering with a question, suck as "Do you honestly think i could do something like that?"

LOL And look completely appalled and shocked..that they could consider something.  Then you might just get an apology from them...all the while, never telling a lie, but directing them in the way you want.
