Who Killed Adeleas?

Recommended Posts

Ok, this I've had the strongest suspicion that it was Vandene who killed Adeleas, ever since I first read the part where Adeleas is murdered. Who would Adeleas accept tea from? Elayne and them should have guessed it from the beginning, because the only person who I can see her taking anything from would be her own sister, Vandene. Throughout the rest of the series, it seems Vandene kind of loses it, wearing Adeleas' clothes and shit, but i think it's all just a cover. The only thing I needed was one scrap of evidence, one little thing to put this together, and it came to me while doing another read-through. I was reading TGH, the part where Moiraine is attacked by the Draghkar, and Moiraine says that the only way she or the warders could not have noticed it before it was on her, would be if it was warded... Moiraine was talking with one of the sisters (can't remember) about random stuff before she was attacked by the Draghkar. Either way, it was enough time for Vandene to ward the draghkar before it attacked. So, everyone tell me what you think of this theory.

The Draghkar that attacks Moiraine in TGH was warded by Liandrin. :)

Too thoughts come to mind.

1)  Possibly.  However, your proof of that is where?

2)  More importantly, what the hell does that have to do with this thread?

Some black sister must have warded it, but I don't think we are ever told who....but Liandrin could have been the one.

1. According to Anaiya (TGH ch 12), Liandrin disappears from the Amyrlin's party returning to TV shortly after Moraine, but before Verin.  So she's in the general vicinity and a known BA.  I'd lay odds it was her.

2. Since the question of who warded the Draghkar is part of the theory that started thread, the answer to that question is sort of relavent.

Actually, one of the BA states something along the lines of "Spare Careane, she's one of us" and then she gets knifed.

As for the dragkar, I may be wrong, but I was pretty sure it was Lanfear that warded and sent it, seeing as how only the forsaken have the power (or the mark from the DO if you will) to order shadowspawn around, and Moiraine had just named Lanfear aloud...I dunno, it could've been someone else, but I always thought it was Lanfear.

Shadowspawn will obey others who have been given authority by the Shadow--its not a compulsion as with the Chosen, but they will obey them, much as they obeyed Luc and Isam.

I know that the killer was 'found', but I too always felt it was Vandene.  I can't remember the exact passages when they discovered that it was ...Carene?, but Vandene stabbed her right away.  Cover up?  I mean, if it occurs to me that if you killed someone and another was suspected, killing that person is a good way to keep your secret.

if I remember correctly that happened in the same passage where Elayne and the others went to catch the black sister in that house durring the seige in KoD. One of the blacks said that Carene was one of them and Vandene said something like "A gift from my sister" or something like that and stabbed her then the blacks killed everyone but Elayne.

Yeah I thought Vandene might be it too, but they would not have killed another member of the Black without orders(probably not, anyway.)

Hopefully this will clear up anyones lingering doubts:

Week 2 Question: The other big murder mystery - Ispan and Adeleas. Have you given us sufficient clues in the books that you think we should be able to figure out this one? Any hints on where to look?

Robert Jordan Answers: No, I haven't given you enough information to solve the murders of Adeleas and Ispan, but they will be solved in Knife of Dreams. How's that for a hint?

In KOD, Careane is revealed as BA, stabbed by Vandene with the words "a gift from Adeleas", and the subsequent deaths of Vandene and Sareitha make it pretty clear that the matter is at an end.
