How did the Asha'man know that Rand was captured, and on top of that how did they travel so accurately, don't you have to know almost exactly where your going? and if they were skimming, you cant see where you come out, you only have a general idea right? or did I miss something....

Taim is a darkfriend (some sort of new generation forsaken :P), there was Black Ajah among these who capture Rand, maybe they keep connection through some of the forsakens.

Can't say. Maybe they know the place in advance and choose it for an ambush.

RJ is repoerted to have said:

On the Asha'man finding Rand in Lord of Chaos, he said that they knew where Rand was. How they did know he began with the following words: "Mazrim Taim is a paranoid S.O.B." finding out of the disappearance of Rand, and a large bunch of Aiel from Cairhien, he followed the route from Cairhien towards Tar Valon by Traveling, until he encountered Elaida's Aes Sedai. From there, he brought in the Asha'man.

So, it seems that Taim had a spy in Cairhien who reported Rand missing, and a bunch of Aiel leaving, so, he followed the Aiel north.  Once he found them, he probably made a gateway from there, to the Black Tower, and brought the Asha'man in that way.

Also, in order to Travel, you have to know the place that you are leaving from extremely well, not the place you are going to.  This is probably because you create the gateway where you are, not where you're going.  However, because holding the Power enhances your senses, you can learn a place well enough to open a gateway within a few minutes, if you are holding the Power.

However' date=' because holding the Power enhances your senses, you can learn a place well enough to open a gateway within a few minutes, if you are holding the Power.[/quote']

Also RJ said that you learn a place when you travel to it. Thats how he explained Nynaeve being able to leave World's End so quickly.

That though, seems to be a late book edit.

Lord of Chaos: Chapter 55 - Dumai's Wells

Taim might have been surprised but he was certainly not relieved. "My Lord Dragon," he said in a tight voice, "I would say there are still several hundred Shaido women out there, some not insignificant it seems. And that is not to mention some thousands of Shaido speers. Unless you truly want to find out whether you are immortal, I suggest waiting a few hours until we know this place well enough to make gateways with some certainty where they will come out, then leaving.

I don't see Taim having any reason to lie to keep them there for a few hours when they were going to have the dome up anyway.

Taim was probably the only one who made the gateway to Dumai's Wells ... he apparently followed Rand in person ... so the other Asha'man would have needed time before they could make gateways ... that said, if they were holding the Power, it shouldn't have taken "hours" ... so it is a bit of an odd statement from Taim.  An odd hole in his education ... or a lie, but then, I don't see any benefit to him from such a lie ...

This certainly seems likely, especially given what Taim says at the end of KOD but (correct me if I'm wrong) this has never been confirmed - not in the books and not by RJ.  It could still turn out that Taim is just a jealous megalomaniac.

Your right it has never been confirmed it is just a strong popular belief that pretty much everyone believes he is some sort of Darky

I don't have the book in front of me, but iirc, from Perrins POV he sees several rings of Asha'man that jump in from different gateways. And from what we know you only have to know the place you're Traveling from in order to Travel so my guess would be that Taim leaves for the Black Tower, has his best men get ready, and they all Travel straight to Dumai's Wells in packs of 4-5-6 or whatever. As they're very familiar with the Black Tower, that shouldn't really be a problem.

Who was it that found Rand was taken? Was it Berelain? I remember it was in the scene where Faile is not talking to Perrin, she's playing stones with Loial and every time Perrin moves near her she walks around the other side of the table. Sulin is changing their linens and generally being a maiden, and ... someone ... Berelain? comes in with Rand's sword in it's scabbard wrapped in a blanket. She says it was in his wardrobe... and Sulin screams "They have taken him". Then Nandera (?) tells her she's served her toh and she goes to put on her cadin'sor...

firstly what was Berelain doing in Rand's wardrobe?! and secondly something nags at me that it was actually TAIM who discovered him gone... and alerted Berelain.

Have i imagined this? I dont have the books with me.
