Did Elayne have the BIG "O"?

Allright.. not trying to be too perverted but I noticed this from my 2nd read-through.

Does anyone remeber the scene that occured when elayne, nynaeve, aviendha, the kin , sea folk and anyone else i may have missed were running from seanchan after using the bowl and elayne was experimenting w/terangreal?  There was a paragraph that indicated that Elayne had may have used a power wrought dildo... I know WTF?

Elayne had a tubular terangreal device that I think she applied fire to and it made her "blackout" and feel good.  When she came to (no pun intended) her shift was above her head and her face was flushed and she had felt her temperature rise.  She wasn't sure what had happened, but every woman around was staring at her and grinning and laughing... Elayne then asked nynaeve what had happened and didn't get much of an answer.  Elayne then tells herself that she would only experiment with terangreal in private from that point on.

Up until that point, there had been no indication that Elayne had experienced this type of sexual activity, yet everyone around her had Aviendha w/rand and nynaeve w lan and evreybody else who were several hundred years old had certainly accomplished this feat.

I presume that a sheltered daughter heir of a country whose queen was not known for a high velocity of relationships would have little to no clue what an orgasm was.  Education on sexual activity probably would have been candy-coated or avoided in her education in order to prevent permiscuity(sp?)..

I probably just need to get out more but my wife is the one that noticed it first... Hmmm...

Well, I do think that ter'angreal is related to sex and sexual satisfaction, but probably not in such a direct way as to be called a dildo. I don't think RJ would even hint at Elayne going at it like that in front of people.  I suspect that channeling into it created those feelings in her maybe through the weave, not direct contact. ^_^

its been said that the aes sedai of modern time haven't the inkling of knowledge of what they used to and know even less about the terangreal from the AoL.

The description of the device Elayne studied is very similar to the description of the oath rod, with the exception of color of course.

Just makes me laugh to think that an all-powerful group of women (The Tower) may have been using some little sex toy as the premise of their purity that they wish the world to see for over a thousand years.

The oath rod was probably some sado-masicists(sp?)toy.

I think I just opened up a whole new can of worms now.  Im looking at TWOT in a whole new light now:  The actual building of the White Tower becomes a symbol for the practices of SM/and the building might even resemble the "oath" rod..well, if not in a freudian way at least.

Maybe thats where the BONDING of warders came into play.. I know they don't need the rod to bond a warder, but the practice of placing a man in bondage is kinda' SM-ish...

--ohhh crap... even the description of how a woman embraces saidar portrays an accurate depiction of what difficult-to-arouse-woman must do in order to embrace the big "O".  and of course how they feel while the power is embraced.

I think you are reading way to much into things. First off, the oath rod, is exactly that--a rod that bind the user to do as they promise.

No phallic imagery there.

And then the Tower was designed as a spire for the same reason any building is tall--to evoke awe and to inspire, plus to hold a whole lot of people if need be.

And I don't even think the connection with Saidar is supposed to be made, either. I think that the man likes to have control, and the woman surrenders herself. Just like in real life, a man likes to have control over everything, and the woman surrenders to her emotions.

No sexual imagery there, at least, there shouldn't be too much read into that.

Your correct is far as guessing the Aes Sedai have no clue what they Oath Rod was used for.  It was actually a method used to control Channellers who were guilty of serious crimes.

Actually, in the BWB, it says that there were ways of constraining criminals against repeat offenses. So there's the use for the oath rod....

Need I say more?

Actually, I just now saw cwestervelt's post, so I guess someone had already answered this before me.

But no, I don't think it was a sex toy.

I'm sure I read way too far into it as far as the phallic imagery...

As for the oath rod's original use, is there a reference anywhere? I do recall a forsaken mentioning something about it but not who nor what, or even when.

(AS far as the BWB, I haven't read it and I have heard mostly terrible reviews about it but i'm not completely discrediting it because I havn't actually read it myself to make up my own mind, i just figured I can get interactive info 4 free online, here)

And binding the user to what they promise IS POTENTIALLY an SM/bondage device.

Now that some Aes Sedai have now been binded to follow orders of others in the tower; let that oath rod fall into the hands of a dominatrix pillow friend and see what kind of crazy stuff happens in the tower...

Hey, I'm just saying for the sake of saying.

About the BWB-  Was it published by TOR? W/the RJ stamp of approval?

It is unless RJ decides it's not. He was consulted by the writer(s).

Ealdur Tinuviel: of course it's phallic, it's a bloody rod ;)

It is published by TOR and RJ is credited as a co-author.  In fact, his name takes prominence over Theresa Patterson's.  That said, 99% of it probably comes from Theresa, with RJ's approval.

When Graendal and Sammael are plotting together in Lord of Chaos they discuss the fact that the Aes Sedai Bind themselves as if they were criminals.

Was referring to a few non-minor things RJ has changed/introduced in the series that refute BWB. Sorry that wasn't clear, I didn't mean that RJ would say the BWB is all shyte ;)

In fact, I think it's written in part or whole as history, not from omniscience. Don't remember, gave mine away since the art was just too bad to keep on my bookshelf (I remove the jackets from my hardcovers too  ::)).

The BWB was deliberately written in the persona of a very well informed but fallible scholar in the WOT world (not an actual character, either).  So, yes, there are things left out, things that may or may not be right, and its meant to be that way.

It is approved, as is, by RJ, in its non-omniscient form.

Therefore, things established in the actual story as "fact" trump the speculations in the BWB.

That said, the "author" is very well informed, so the vast, vast majority of the book is absolutely correct.

So what do you guys think Elayne actually did?

I assume if she did anything completely out of line, Nyn would have her head in a bucket of water or would have drug her off somewhere boxing her ears.

But whatever she did do, everyone just seems a bit embarrassed about it.  So what do you think she did?

Since it seems obvious that the ter'angreal was a sexual aide of some kind, I would imagine that she got very aroused and propositioned some people, probably by taking her clothes off and demonstrating just how aroused she was.  Then making some suggestions on what they could do about it.

At that point, I imagine Nynaeve and Birgitte intervened, and Nynaeve probably dosed her with something that put her rapidly to sleep.

RAW, are you by any chances a comedian? I nearly died of laughter reading that. And somehow the image of Elayne doing that is so wrong it refuses to form in my mind.

And, I wonder, what's the average age of posters here? Some stuff are, ahem, kinda beyond a certain age.
