Are Rand and Moiraine related?

Right my memory can be pants at times so i need to see if im right

 

Tigraine was the queen who ran away to the waste and became a maiden of the spear,

 

Now maoiraine is her half sister? yes or no?

 

and if yes, that would make her Rands Aunt wouldent it

 

and once again if yes, what part is this going to play in that last book after she is saved.... will she tell rand of the relationship between them?

 

and if im all wrong... ah well at least i tried  ;D

Moiraine was half-sister to Taringail, who married Tigraine. So there is no bloodties between Rand and Moiraine. She's auntie to Galad though.

She's also the auntie of Gawyn and Elayne, as Taringail was their father as well. And a half aunt, rather than a full aunt, but that's just being picky.

Question! Do Gawyn, Elaine and Galad know Moiraine or know that shes a relative of theirs? I cant remember if they meet her at all in the books, though Im pretty sure at some point Moiraine thinks about sending her nephew a present, though she reckons it would be impossible.

Galad and Gawyn never meet Moir, at least not in the books. However Moir and Elayne meet after Falme before Elayne heads back to the Tower, and then spend lots of time together in the Stone after it falls to Rand. Once Elayne and Nyneave leave to hunt the BA though, Elayne and Moir never see each other again.

It is doubtful that Elayne realized Moiraine was related to her.  Moiraine has made it a point to disassociate herself from House Damodred.

 

Thom on the other hand undoubtedly realized the connection right away.  As he likes his secrets I doubt he would have told Elayne even after she figured out who he was.

I would actually be very surprised if Elayne doesn't know ... given her POV in TSR ch 6.  She knows that Moiraine grew up in the Royal Palace of Cairhien.  To quote:

 

Moiraine had grown up in the Royal Palace in Cairhien, not destined to reign, but related to the ruling family and no doubt overhearing the same lectures.

 

So, she knows where Moiraine is from, and that she is one of the ruling Damodred family ... to know all that, but not know that Moiraine is her father's sister ... that strikes me as extraordinarily unlikely.

 

You are correct, though, that Thom most certainly knows.

i thought that taringal was her uncle. lets see... king laman was her uncle, and so were two ther guys... and dalresin damodres was her father, and i know that she had like two sisters.
