Why is there a reason you should post after me loki? hmm?

As I understand it only Danya has bonestone atm and I plan to leave it with her.

kivam and barm had their pieces taken away

And I already stole from you before loki, can;t remember whether you had a piece and I gave it to kivam or whether you didn't have any but the point is you wouldn't have any now anyways.

And fine! i *FULLY* support Danya viewing whichever one of us doesn't die today

its no loss for me, cuz if i die they find out about you and either for sure lynch you or let you be for now.

And If we manage to kill you finally and knock off one of the 3 assassins then Danya will know I'm innocent if she views me, and if somehow, in gods good name I don't know how, all those weird things like supporting killing Danya and supporting going to the lynch right away without trying to break the curse and you turn up innocent then she can view me and know that I'm truly innocent.

Oh and btw Loki, back when you were telling us "Oh if i was the murderer, this is what I would have done". You sure knew a surprising amount of what the murderer should be thinking/feeling and its oh so funny that the decision of who to night kill, as you said yourself, would have worked out perfect for an evil me.

Thing is, I'm not dumb enough to pull something like that, I've got a damned good idea of who our healer is and i would have gone straight for the healer. Not tried to cover my own behind as you were implying.

But enough of words, as you said yourself now is a time for action.

So take a stance you lot!

Be it me! or be it Loki!

I say we go for Vem for the simple reason that he is not the Healer (At least that what he says). anyone can be evil at this point, except me, so the main issue for me now is to not lynch the Healer

Wow things sure are heating up!!

Heh.  Theyr'e about to.

A combination of Wes' comment and the fact that we have 3 hours left means I'm going to vote for myself, better this then a random vote.

The sound of hushed conversation stirs you in your sleep. Your eyes open and quickly adjust to the light of a few candles because that’s all there is. It’s dark outside. You start, coming fully awake; relieved to be alive but wondering who was not so lucky. The others see you…all eight of them.

“Don’t worry, No one has been lynched.”  They are gathered at the other end of the room, trying not to disturb you.

“So what happens now? It’s night.”

“That’s what we were talking about. We don’t know.”

Barm sets down his glass. “We’ll find out more when the witches use the Soul Stone.”

“But I thought they needed a death before they could use that stone.”

“Evidently they feel like whatever it is they need to know is important enough to risk trying for. They have asked for possessions from everybody who has already died. They will try to call them.”

“You’re kidding” But you can tell from the expression on his face and his tone that he is not.

“They will wait a little while before they begin. We will be allowed to follow them to the spot they have chosen, but we are not allowed to interfere or come within a certain distance, no matter what. They have made it plain that it will mean death to anyone that goes against this.”

Barm picks up a Sinta blade and a sharpening stone and begins again to hone the blade to a razors edge.

“I think this is going to be bad.”

The hours pass and the moon shines full over the jungle, beams of soft amber fall through the foliage and form a beautiful lattice of light.  Barm pokes his head through the door to announce that the time has come. You grab your things, and the collection of items left from those who have fallen before you.  Everyone is gathered in the center of the village. Included are your group of eight, ten of the Hall Guard, and seven witches.  Another group is gathered under the eaves of a nearby building. Thirty or so Hall Guard, a scattering of other pirates, twelve or thirteen witches, and the Minister’s daughter. When it appears that everyone has gathered, the seven witches from your group begin to walk south through the village and into the jungle.  Everyone follows. The walk is not long. You soon come to a glen wherein lies a small pond. Tendrils of mist wisp off of the surface of the water and the seven witches surround the pond and seat themselves. You see the senior witch, the witch from the ship, and you vaguely recognize the others. You turn to see Barm, who appears to be on the verge of panic. You quietly move next to him.

     “What’s wrong?”

His reply is strained “Whomever is caught in the stone’s radius when it is used is doomed to die in six months. I thought one of them had chosen to sacrifice – not seven. I can’t imagine what it is that they are looking for.” He scans the perimeter of the glen, checks the Minister and brings his watchful eye back to the witches surrounding the pool.

Seven of them to die? And as far as you know, they are some of the most powerful singers. The icy threads of panic begin climb your spine and work their way around your gut.

“Bring me the possessions of the first hero.” The witch’s voice is low, clear, and strong Everyone is broken out of the quiet reverie that had come over the group. A pirate brings her a small satchel, spattered with blood. You recognize it. It was Cloud’s. The guard leaves the witches circle and on reaching a safe distance way, calls to the group.

“No one move past this point.” He turns to watch, as does everyone else.

The witch traces the blood spatter on the bag with a long finger. She begins to unpack the bag, laying out random items. A Tanto dagger, flint and steel, a pipe. Finally she raises her hand and is holding a locket. Inside is a picture of Cloud with what appears to be his family. You never knew. The witch drops the locket into her palm next to the Soul Stone and wraps her fingers around them both. She opens her mouth and a clear note sounds. She holds it for a while, then lets it drift it lower, into a more sorrowful tone. The note shifts again, and begins to lift and drop into a heart wrenching tale of loss that needs no words to be understood. The song is hypnotic, trance like, and the vapors that rise from the pond are soon caught up in the dance.  Pale light shimmers from the stone, illuminating the mist. The mist rises thick off the surface, like a silver curtain, and your heart skips a beat as the curtain begins to move. First as if it is pressed outward, then settling as a head and shoulders take shape. Details coalesce and after a moment it becomes the image of Cloud. The first witch continues her song as a second begins to sing, accompanying the melody that the first has established. The second song takes a soothing tone, but lightly hinting at questions in between. You can’t explain it, but you feel like you understand the nature of what’s being done even though no words are spoken. You lean towards Barm. And whisper.

“Do the witches hear more than we do?” He leans towards you. “Oh yes, they are talking to him. They must be pleased that he is able to manifest so strongly. That locket must have been very important to him.” You wonder something else. “Is it the pool of water that helps them bring him here?” He pauses, watching as the apparition spreads it hands out as if in a pleading gesture. A third witch begins a song with a more stern tone.

“No. They don’t need the water to help them. It’s actually to help him. The more the spirit has to manifest around, the more able they are to bring themselves forth. The witches had discussed building a fire and using the smoke as a medium, but the pool is best because water vapor is heavier than smoke.”

The image of Clodcrono strehgthens. All three witches are singing in earnest now, a sense of urgency coloring all three songs. Then the third witch lets her song slowly end and cease. The second witch sings a soothing tone for a while, then allows her song to taper off. The image of Cloud begins to fade. The senior witch lets her song come to an end finally, the light of the stone shrinking back between her fingers, returning the pool to darkness. A moment of silence precedes the witch’s next words.

The spirit of Cloudcrono knows the history of the Brethren and the Sisterhood. How the first Minister, Teryl Riffken struck his accord with the witches and they made the pact that still stands today. Cloudcrono has explained much, but not everything.

The Minister speaks. “Ennora, can you tell of what Cloud has spoken of?” She sets her milky gaze on his. “No minister. We who sit within the influence of the stone are bound to its rules. We may only ask that the spirit come forth and share it’s knowledge. We may not speak for it.” The third witch speaks next. “All is not lost Minister, the spirit came to us strongly and shred willingly. It is likely to think that it will do the same for you.”

     “Bring the next heroes possessions”

A leather harness, sword in scabbard, lined with holding pouches is traded for Cloud’s satchel.

She has only to touch it to know whose it was.  “This belonged to the clever one.” She opens up a pouch and pulls out the signaling disc that Kivam had used at the bonestone caves. It seems so long ago. She drops the disc into her hand, next to the Soul Stone and closes her fingers again. The notes rise from her mouth and fill the air, this time with a sense of bouyancy and playfulness.

Barm leans in again. “She finds an object that gives off a residue of the owners personality. That’s why she needed their things. Then the stone attracts them and she must convince them to communicate. Kivam loved puzzles and games, so she will try to appeal to that part of his nature.”

Kivam’s image appears strongly in the mist, even more defined then Cloud’s. He is moving back and forth, as if he cannot materialize all at once in a single spot.  Other witches immediately begin to weave their voices into the song, trying to hold his image but they cannot. He begins to withdraw, then a hand reaches out. It disappears. His head pushes through the mist, only to retreat. Then the mists go still, even before the song ends. The witches are all breathing heavily and appear to be strained.

“His will to be here and help his friends is why he could appear at all. We have learned the secret to the curse of the black stone and he will make it known to you as well.” She replaces the disc into it’s pouch and sets the harness down beside her. The pirate walks back towards her. This time he carries belongings from Talya and Dsage.

“The is no need.” She hand shim the harness but does not take anyone elses things.

“As the spirits surround the stone, we can see whose presence is strong enouh to break through. None of the others are.”

“Do we return to the village then?”

“No.”  She pauses. “There is a threat to all of us that the others have not been able to clearly communicate. It is a dire threat and all of our survival depends on one more summoning. That summoning must be from the recently dead.” She stares at the group.

“it is time for you to choose who you believe to be the assassin. Choose well and the threat is over. Choose another innocent and the threat grows. Either way, I must have a clear view through a fresh soul.”

*KIVAM WILL FOLLOW THE SAME RULES AS CLOUD TO PASS ALONG THE SECRET OF THE BLACK BONESTONE. YOU HAVE 24 HOURS TO CHOOSE THE NEXT LYNCH BEFORE DAY 6 BEGINS. THE NIGHTACTIONS WILL BE TAKING PLACE AT THE SAME TIME. WHTEVER IS POSTED FIRST WILL STAND. AFTER THE LYNCH AND THE NIGHTACTIONS ARE TURNED IN, THE WITCH WILL COMPLETE HER LAST SUMMONING AND WE WILL BEGIN THE FINAL SETTING OF THE GAME. *

So once more it seems we are forced to choose and i choose [glow=red,2,300]Loki[/glow]

Plus, the ridiculous thing is that one of the innocents switched sides!  Not sure how anyone could bring themselves to do that . . .  But if the others can figure out a way to kill the assassin without lynching him, the curse will be broken.

theres Kivam's hint.

So one of us switched sides when offered the pm before

And to break the curse we have to kill the assassin without lynching him

isn't there a piece of bonestone that kills a player? or did i imagine that piece?

Gonna look for cloud's

With 8 players, it takes 5 to lynch.

And guys, Cloud hasn't posted since Wes' announcement so he hasn't posted his hint yet.

So lets look at things *before* the black bonestone was played, minus the now dead people.

[glow=blue,2,300]Minister[/glow]- Innocent by the pm that was sent to us, side with the minister/innocent or the admiral/evil.

[glow=blue,2,300]Danya[/glow]- I still hold by the fact that Danya kept her role and wasn't offered to switch sides.

[glow=blue,2,300]Vemynal[/glow]- I know my own innocence. back then and now. I'll let someoen else write up on me if they wish.

[glow=red,2,300]Admiral[/glow]-Evil by role & the pm we received (no I don;t think your evil any more Admiral, relax)

[glow=Yellow,2,300]Barm[/glow]-Prior to the black bonestone being played he was a confirmed innocent by role. But was he allowed to switch roles in the pm? It seems in Wes' accounts he has served the minister faithfully. But during this time he was also off dealing with that army outside the Hall, was he the one, on the admiral's orders, who told them that they could invade? (i donno, looking to the storyline for hints seems weak to me. And if Barm went evil we would have had no way to kill him and would have lost the game)

FDM- Back at this point was innocent. He was also offered the same options that myself and Hax were though and could have switched.

[glow=yellow,2,300]Loki[/glow]- Back at this point was innocent. I'm not sure what deal he was offered.

[glow=yellow,2,300]Hax[/glow]- Back at this point was innocent. He was also offered the same options that myself and FDM were though and could have switched.

The final question is: Someone switched sides *BEFORE* the black bonestone was used. Now they would be innocent right?

But maybe they have a clue to who is evil now?

We know myself, hax, FDM were sent that pm where you could switch sides. i didn't switch and don't know anything though.

I also don;t know if loki switched but became good thx to the black bonestone.

what you guys think?

here's what Cloud wrote

Back in my younger years I a piece of old parchment in a bottle along the beach.  I did not think it was too important at the time but it eventually led me to my interest in the brotherhood.

Hall historians put the discovery of Sel Arren at somewhere between four hundred and twenty five to four hundred and fifty years ago.  The Brotherhood had been established long before, and was based primarily among the floating prayer cities and loosely regulated ports. The islands of Sel Arren and Sel Erratz were known, of course, but were unexplored and were unofficially under the banner of the Neitaren Commonwealth, but this could be said for any number of islands in those waters. The Neitaren Navy was powerful even then, and the pirates only beginning to show signs of what they would eventually become, and so the islands were left to the Neitaren’s as no one looked for trouble with them. Which brings us to a young, but enterprising pirate, who had need of a hideout and a location to base his south seas trade in. He was the first on record to discover the bay that would become the Dragonsback Docks, and he was the first to explore the rocky cliffs that would one day become The Hall. His name was Teryl Riffken, captain of the ship Reliant. Captain Riffken was delighted with the bay that he had discovered and would have based his operations here even had he not made his next discovery. But the next discovery is what cemented his reputation as one of the greatest pirate captains of all. With a small group, the captain began to ascend the cliffs until he found an entrance to what turned out to be a vast network of tunnels and caverns. Somewhat stunned by his good fortune, for this was the kind of hideout and base that pirates dreamt of, he was not paying that close of attention to the walls of the cavern he was in. He noted the size of the cavern, the dimensions and the distance to what he had already begun to think of as the docks. It was perfect, and he realized that it was worth much more than just a hideout for one captain. He quickly formulated a plan to approach the Minister and propose this as a South Seas base. With enough brothers, the Neitaren’s might not bother them and even if they did, negotiations were held frequently over such matters. Riffken would lobby to become an Admiral and lord of this base, thus building his power and fleet. It was an amazing find, and one that would change his fortunes forever. But in a different way than he even yet knew. He moved the light from the lantern around the domed cavern once again, and this time noticed a reflection from the far wall. As he moved closer, his pulse sped up and as reached out to touch the wall and confirm what it was he thought he was seeing, he glanced up. Then to the left and then to the right. His jaw dropped. The wall was marbled with bonestone. He had little experience with it, and really had only seen a few pieces in his life. The pirates were more of am arm and sword blade group with no singers among them and little experience with those who used these stones and their power. Further inspection made it clear that the entire network of caverns was riddled with the stuff. He plunged deeper into the tunnels, exploring them further until he came to the largest cavern yet. And found to his surprise that it was occupied. Or at least it had been recently. There was an altar, and candles, and runes painted on different surfaces. He knew enough to spot the trappings of a witch cult when he saw them and his plans suddenly changed. There was no one in the room at the time, so he backed out, collected his men and made it back to the ship with no incident. He sailed from that bay and headed directly back out to sea and was almost content to put the entire affair behind him and be thankful for not loosing his hide. Almost. His first thought was that he had been foolish to think that he was the first one to discover the place. His second thought was that the Neitaren’s would never let the cult survive if they knew of the presence of all of that bonestone, as they were also skilled singers. His third thought was that those skilled singers would have demanded that the republic immediately populate the island and mine it for the bonestone that it held.  That’s why it appeared uninhabited. The witches were hiding. That meant that they were afraid, and that presented certain opportunities. He came about and sailed right back to the bay, where he dropped anchor, flew his colors and put a larger band of men together to search the opposite shores of Sel Erratz. He found what he was looking for relatively easily, small, rural villages of people who lived on the larger island but were part of no country. They were not exactly happy to see the pirates, but made no move against them, either. Riffken had prepared for this, and acted as if he sought to establish trade and possibly recruit hands, as pirates always did. As a general rule, these types of communities welcomed the pirates as it always meant wealth and opportunity for the younger men. After meeting several of the leaders of the people, Riffken found them to be no different. They were a little shy, but not really different. Riffken never let on that he had explored the other island. He waited until he had spread some coin around, and then casually suggested that the rocky point would make an excellent lookout. The people said no, it wouldn’t. That the island was infested with poisonous snakes and too much trouble to even visit. Better to leave it alone. The captain smiled and he knew the time had come. His men had spread out in case there was an uprising, but these people were not prepared to fight so he doubted any trouble would come of it.

“I’ve seen the caverns. I’ve seen the bonestone, and seen you altars. I did not see any snakes, and I’ve yet to see your witches here in this camp.” The people shifted uneasily, looking nervously about. “It’s alright, I would like to propose an accord to the singers that I am sure you will all find beneficial.”

Although Captain Riffken was confident at this point, he had no idea what he was about to enter into. The witches did come forth, and did admit vulnerability to the Neitarens, or to any one else who came along.  The entire village lived here because the witches had to be close to the island of Sel Arren and it’s bonestone caverns. The caves held bonestone, true. But they also shielded the use of it from Xoc as they gave off a near constant emanation of the stones power and were surrounded by water and volcanic rock. The witches had been slowly training themselves to the point where they might become strong enough singers to become valuable in the prayer cities and move their small village away. It was these peoples only hope at a better life. Captain Riffken understood this, and proposed that he and the pirates base themselves at Sel Arren. He would protect the witches, and they in turn would use the stone’s powers for their mutual benefit. He pictured a fleet with singers and knew that he could deter the Neitaren’s if he had but a short time to build this force. The agreement was made, but not as Riffken imagined. His world existed on the weight of a man’s word and the certainty that no one would cross a pirate. The witches knew better and would bind the pact with a song and a promise. Riffken agreed and the pact was struck. The leader of the pirates would always marry the strongest of the witches, uniting two groups that would remain separate but equal and share the home of Sel Arren. Riffken became that leader, and thus became the Minister of Sel Arren. Over the next hundreds of years the Brotherhood became very powerful indeed, and the sisterhood as well. One became famous the world over, and the other remained a closely guarded secret. Generations of witches became tied to the pirates by blood and to the current day, a split had never come between them. Until now.

Some months ago, before the Admirals had been assassinated, the current Minster’s wife had been assassinated first. The witches were given information that the Minster himself was responsible and that he sought to end the pact and remove the sisterhood from Sel Arren. No reason was given to why, but suspicion grew.

Soon after, all but one of the Admirals was assassinated and once again, the trail of guilt led to the Minister. Some speculated that he would rid himself of any competition or influence and remake the Hall is his name and image.  The last Admiral, new to the post, rallied who he could find that were loyal to the hall and began a careful watch over the Minister and the witches, determined to preserve their way of life.

The Minister kept close contact with the witches, proclaiming his innocence and let them use him to look at the future of the Hall, even though the process is extremely painful. The prophecy was seen about the outsiders help and betrayal from other pirates. The remaining and newly raised Admiral became their chief suspect and the call went out to the Neitaren’s and to the group of heroes. Also a small number of pirates remained loyal to the Minister, the leader of whom was Barm.

It is now clear that the Neitaren’s have finally come for what they have lusted over for hundreds of years. The Hall, and the bonestone caverns of Sel Arren. They knew that a pitched battle against the Brotherhood and the Sisterhood could never be won and that only the most elaborate, confusing, and subtle plan had any chance of success. They planned out single every aspect of the preceding months, with the exception of one thing: the heroes. It is now up to them to find the last assassin and save Sel Arren and The Hall

Now that I think about it it seems to me that [glow=red,2,300]the main point is this: Now we know who is attacking and why. The goal is to find the last assassin and end the threat.[/glow]

Great find Danya!

So the assassins were never working for the admiral! They were working for the Neitarans!

And we have to kill said assassin without lynching him...

anyone got any ideas?

is it possible for us to night kill him? (no idea how)

What about that bonestone that could kill someone?

Is it possible to kill someone doing something other then lynching them?

Sadly it appears that we have to wait for tomorrows clue...

Which means 1 of us has to die

and that looks like me atm since no one has been active these last few days  :'(

Low conversation is had among the group, but a decision has not been reached. There is just not enough to go on. No one has figured out how to use Kivam’s clue to break the curse and you can physically feel the time passing, just like watching a slow burn fuse inch towards it’s inevitable explosive end. The group has gathered together as if there might be safety in numbers. The witches are still seated by the pond’s edge, waiting.

“If the Neitaren’s cursed the Blackstone, could they be the key to breaking the curse?”

Everyone turns to look at you.

“But, how did they know we would find and use it?”

“They didn’t. They thought that the witches would find and use it. It was placed in a well hidden spot among other Neitaren artifacts, and they knew that the witches would not be able to resist singing to it to search for it’s meaning. They were the targets, and they were meant to trigger the curse that would insure that one assassin always lived to finish the job.”

    “To kill the Minister?”

“No, to cast doubt on the Minister’s ability to rule, thus creating a mutiny. The Minister appears as if he has betrayed the witches. And then the witch’s actions to protect themselves confirm that appearance. The Brethren and the Sisters are at odds, which rips the Hall in half.  While this is occurring, information is leaked to the last Admiral so that he rallies the pirates loyal to the Hall to overthrow the Minister. But the Minister has been well loved, and many still protect him.” The full meaning of the puzzle is finally clear. And somewhere, in the back of your mind, you remember a tale of the Neitarens destroying another culture for their Bonestone.

“It must have taken years to fit all of the subtle pieces of the plan together. And then to have it all put in to action so quickly, there must be sides of this we do not even know. The fact that they have been so thorough is alarming. I can’t see them just letting us walk away.

Barm nods to himself. “That’s why the witches are willing to lose so much. They already know that the Hall is being destroyed from the inside out, like a cancer.  They see this as our only chance.”

“So to stop this, we have to find the assassin among us, and it could be anybody. We already know that it was a person who was once innocent and did not choose this path. Then we have to figure out how to lynch them without letting the curse spread to another. Once the chain is broken, we can trust our own again and organize ourselves to retake the Hall. If we fail, we will always have an assassin working against us and can never heal.”

“Which brings us back to the Neitaren’s being the key to the curse. They did not see our group getting involved in all of this. What else did they miss?”

You think back through all of the twists and turns; the run from the Hall, the Black Bonestone going off, and meeting with the witch. You remember being chained to the wall in the Myshir Trept pit, the terrible mistrust between the Admiral, the Minister, and the Witches. Losing comrades in the Hall and back on the top of the cliff after the bonestone had been retrieved form the cave…..

“How many pieces of bonestone are left from the cave?”

Everyone scrambles, counting back: The witch took two pieces from Kivam and Barm. Kivam had owned another piece and had given it Danya before the inherited the Redstone, and the witch took this as well. The other piece just seemed to disappear….

Everyone looks back at the witch. She clearly made a point of collecting all of the pieces she could.

“Yes, I have them all, but they will not help you. Through Kivam I have learned how to break the curse. He has shared the secret with you as well. You must find another way to kill the assassin than just the lynch. The curse must be broken. Only a Neitaren can kill the assassin. The Neitaren’s were certain that not one of them would break ranks. Therefore they laid the curse so that it would only act against pirates. Thus, a pirate cannot save the brotherhood.”

“So any of us should be able to kill the assassin…”

“The tattoo on your wrist claims you as a pirate.”

The group thinks about this. The witch sits patiently for a while. Then she speaks once more.

I have the means to break the curse, and I will trade it for a soul. Choose who among you is most likely to be the assassin. Then I will give you the means to stop this curse, and you will use it to kill them. But do not delay any further, there are events that take place even now that I must see before death takes us all.”

apparently thats what Wes means.

So it comes down to myself, FDM or Hax

and as an added bonus to that one of us is the healer (which I'm not btw)

I still don't trust Loki, ad I'm keeping my vote on him.

Just because he was the evil doesn't mean he can't be the evil now, we all become innocent *then* a new assassin is chosen right?

Everybody looks at each other, knowing that there were only four votes for Vemy.

     “But how…”

The witch speaks over you “You were so intent on each other that you did not notice the faint orange twinkle of light. The orangestone has been found and used.”

Vemy looks tired. He has spent so much time and effort carrying the weight of this decision on his shoulders, and it has taken its toll on him. Ironically, it is he who has the presence of mind to hold the witch to her bargain.

“Fine, my soul will act as your guide. But what of the cure for the curse? How will you keep the Blackstone from claiming a new innocent after every kill?”

The witch turns to the pirate guard. “Bring me the Neitaren’s belongings.” And then it hits you; SamVimes was Neitaren. Could he have been a part of their plan…?. You laugh a little at the thought of that. Sam was no agent of the Neitaren’s. He had even gone so far as to change his name to protect his identity, and probably from them. The pirate sets a leather shoulder bag down next to the witch. The clank of bottles sounds as the pack settles. The witch pulls back the flap and rummages through until she finds what she is looking for. She draws a plain dagger, still in it scabbard, from the bag and hands it to the pirate.

“This is immune to the curse. This is plain Neitaren steel, something that their singers could have never accounted for us having.  The Neitaren’s would never make the mistake of losing control over their own curse. Take Vemy’s life with this dagger, and if he is the assassin, he will be the last.  Then I will use the Soul Stone one more time.”

Final Vote Count:

A keen sense of anticipation comes over the group. It is time to dispatch Vemy, and if he is the assassin the curse will be broken as well as the Neitaren’s plan. Hearts pound and prayers are spoken as he is given a blindfold, surrounded by the group and then quickly done in.  His body slumps to the ground. The faintest light of dawn colors the horizon of the night sky.

* VEMYNAL, A ROLELESS INNOCENT, IS DEAD. NO ONE IS DEAD BY NIGHTKILL. *

The witches sink back into their trance and the group falls silent once more. The senior witch speaks. “Bring me his belongings.”

The pirate walks over to Vemy’s body and looks around. No bag or pouch or jewelry is visible. He pulls Vemy’s sword from his belt and pauses. He lays the sword down on Vemy’s chest and removes his boots. On the inside of the calf of the right boot, a bulge gives away the presence of an object.  The pirate fishes it out. It is a silver charm from a priest of one of the floating cities. At some point, Vemy had been blessed and protected.

“That is what I need. Bring it to me.”  The witch drops it next to the Soul Stone and for the last time, closes her fingers around both objects. The pale glow of the Soul Stone appears from between the witch’s fingers. Her song rises, but it is hurried and not as clear and sure as the other songs had been. The other witches join in immediately, once again weaving their voices into the song to try and restore balance. The mists are swirling, the light catching them is bright in some spots, but not so in others. This is not what had happened before. Vemy’s ghost suddenly appears through the mists as if it had been thrown against a wall.  All of the witches change the tone of their songs to a guarded, angry pitch. Fear slices through the night like the sudden feeling of a blade laid against the back of your neck in the dark. A massive clawed hand, wreathed in mist flashes through to take hold of Vemy and yank him back. The witches scream, the light suddenly dies, and the shock of such a sudden withdrawal from the song leaves everyone in shock and confusion.

The senior witch gulps for air  “They are already here!” she pauses “We should have felt them!”

Another witch cries as if in pain. “They are using so much Bonestone, it is suicide!”

A third witch speaks low “They think that the land is enchanted against the use of the bonestone. They have no idea…”

The Minister shouts “Ennora, what is happening? Who is here?”

The witch composes herself to speak. “The Sendek Hunters are here Minister. We suspected that the Neitaren’s would stop at nothing to succeed, but we had no way of knowing this. They have brought their singers. And their beasts. They will hunt us until they kill us all. There is no escape. We must discover the assassin, that is how they trace us. We can help if you find the killer quickly!”

A scream rips through the breaking dawn, coming form the direction of the village. It is Far. She must have woken up…
