Special mafia accounts ... for special mafia players!

Hi all,

 

I've been talking to people for some time about the possibility of setting up special mafia accounts for us to use instead of our regular accounts while playing mafia. This would prevent the kind of inevitable metagaming that happens -- for example, Alys always gets night killed because we’re all too scared to argue with her. The powers-that-be have kindly given permission for us to go ahead with up to 15 mafia accounts! So it's time for us to talk about our shiny future mafia accounts and how everything's going to work.

 

1. We decide on names. I’d love to have 10-15 themed names so our mafia accounts can easily be told apart from other accounts. See below.

2. We create the accounts. The forum mods will keep a list of passwords to all the accounts. Maybe on the staff board?

3. We’ll hand over the names to the powers-that-be. The powers-that-be will do something to the accounts’ permission levels so they can only view the fiddlesticks forum. This is just so the mafia accounts stick to their purpose.

4. Next game, the passwords are given to the game mod. The game mod assigns an account and a password to each player. The players switch into their mafia accounts when they want to post on the thread. No player changes the password to their account.

5. After the game, the forum mods change all the passwords and update the password list.

6. Repeat from 4.

 

How’s that sound? Good? Good! Let’s talk about names for our future shiny mafia accounts. :D Examples of themed names are:

 

Wheel of Time cities - Cairhien, Far Madding, Caemlyn and Tear

Zodiac signs - Scorpio, Capricorn, Taurus and Leo

Heroes of the Horn - Artur Hawkwing, Birgitte, Calian and Shivan

we could also go with italian-themed names. or authors' names. famous characters from a bunch of different series, maybe? just throwin' it out there.

 

and by the way, sirayn, i remember you talking about this for a while. glad it's coming together. 8)

Yeah - I remember chatting to you about it before. I was talking to Alys about her being night killed on night one this last game and she really encouraged me to make it happen. :)

seriously, though... i am excited. and since everyone will have a different name each time... the metagaming will cease and the posting styles can change for each person without having that be metagamed too... except that i have the feeling that sira will not be able to part with her stats.

the cities are good... i hesitate to say this, but we should add shadar logoth... it has a bad connotation, but it gives us another name for the themed and anyone voting based on a name needs to be shot. and rhudien (sp... it's been too long since i have read the books :oops: ).

i'd check the names in the books for you but someone got them all out of order and it's going to make me too frustrated if i go to my room atm sorry dear but i agree again cities are good mispelled cities are good too and this has all been discussed in little private channels and why does even that seem redundant

Alys - Rhuidean and Shadar Logoth would also be good names. :D If everyone digs the cities, then we could have everyone list their favourites and take the top maybe 15 names. We may need more later.

it isn't all that redundant since i have only discussed it briefly with sira and sir. i think it is great to hear input from the persons who will have to parade around under the titles.

what kait (or anyone else for that matter) posts should be totally relavent to the discussion we are trying to have. if it all seems redundant, you could stay away or liven it up with new ideas. we may like one...

that's what i thought i hope we go for the cities regardless of what happens anywhere so that the new ones can all just fight and kill each other and then we can re-fight and re-kill and then we end up where we want(ed) to or not maybe that should be reremade redundant

I like this idea, and I like the idea of cities or hero's of the horn... if we do cities or nations we should include all of the aiel clans as well.

my personal preference is for people names rather than city names. just sayin'. i'm not too picky, but that's my thought.

The problem with people names is that they're more likely to be taken. I don't think we have 15 Heroes of the Horn, and if we use more common names, they've already been had - we've got an Egwene, a Nynaeve and so on already, for example.

a good point.... i'll go with general consensus, but i still prefer people names to city names, and i don't feel it absolutely necessary to take WoT names either...... i don't want to be an obstructor here, just, i dunno.... tell me when i've taken my obstinacy too far. :P
