It's worth mentioning, that he's going to be playing a larger role in Season 3 of WoT than he will in Season 2. I doubt he's even in season 2?

I hope they add the scene in season 2 where Tam and Abell go to the White Tower looking for them.

That would happen in season 2, since most of TGH and TDR take place in season 2.

  2. There aren't actually that many scenes in great hunt that have to be told in their entire time.  For example a lot of the early book is just the party traveling across land.

A lot of the things that they do can be merged into a couple of scenes.

The only things that need to be clearly shown are them finding the fade that Fain killed, And maybe the visions that rand had when they went into That one village.  And all of those scenes could happen in a single village that they've come acrinstead of multiple villages.

I'm still unsure whether or not they will use the portal stones are not.  They aren't central to the overall plot and are just there to add lore.  So they can be actually cut away without changing the plot.

I could easily see them having rand get separated from the group after a trolloc attack or something like that, And meet up with serene, And travel with her Without actually Traveling through one of the portalstones.

As far as I know, RJ was influenced by dune. I mean, every writer is influenced by everything he's read through his life, but the aiel and aes sedai are clearly inspired. I don't see any real similarity between aviendha and chani, on the other hand.

that said, it's not the same thing and there are enough differences. the aiel have a touch of fremen in them, but they are modeled more closely to the zulu impis - at some point someone even describes aiel common tactics that's exactly the same as the impi fighting tactics. then there is the short spear - iklwa - and the fact that they can run for very long distances. while the whole clan structure is modeled after irish or scottish clans.

actually, the fremen and aiel look similar on the surface, but they get more different the more you analyze. so, let people analyze.

The Aes Sedai weren't inspired by dune.

They were inspired by the witches of Avalon from King Arthur legends.   Avalon where the name Tar Valon comes from

WI believe that Dune was also based at least partially on them as well, which is likely why there are similarities.

They have a hint already that the rings may be present, at least for Nnaeve.  They have a shot in the teaser of her with unbraided hair, and her mother is cast.

That said, imagine no more than one scene 'within' the rings that tries to bring everything together, not three, and not the same as the books.
Having Egwene do it is much less important, since we had a tidbit from her rings journey in Rand's vision in E08 anyway and to show too much more would give away that she'll be Amyrlin.

I Think they'll go with the Harry Potter in the pensieve route, where she goes through one ring and then The scene just shifts from one to the other without her exiting until the end.

  5. I think season 2 will more closely follow the great hunt and the dragon reborn Then season one followed eye of the world.

I'm not sure whether or not they'll introduce portal stones or even if they'll introduce certain characters That aren't really needed for the overall story.  But the general story arc I think will remain the same.

The real challenge Is how they'll get all the characters that need to go on the hunt together back together after they all went their seperate ways.

I have a feeling that the cold open for episode one of season 2 will involve Mat being hunted by Aes Sedai, And the reveal that his connection to the dagger was not fully broken but only partially healed just as it was in the books.  Moiraine will use this as an excuse to manipulate rand to return to help Hunt down Fain, And by the end of episode one, Rand, Mat, Perrin, and the Sheinarans will all be generally where they were in TGH.

The real big change I'm thinking The day will make is that ishy won't be killed by rand snd be so won't be transformed into Moridin.  I doubt they'll want to take Additional time to find a new actor to play the role.  I think Ishy will remain himself throughout the show.

Power wrought weapons in WoT can’t be reforged, but they also can’t be damaged, so they never need it.

if the beams were power wrought, they can’t be damaged.

when dealing with steel that can be damaged, it can also be repaired.

If beams were repaired and put to use in construction, you would see one beam supporting the center of the wine spring inn’s common room, you would other AoL items sparsely scattered around the environment as people find them and use them appropriately and inappropriately but to fill a need in their world.

If it isn't power wraught steel and can be belted dowb and reforged, then it would be more useful in repairing tools and weapons than in construction.  The Wine Spring in has been standing for hundreds of years, and I doubt they would see the need to add a steel support beam when wooden ones have always worked fine.  I would think that the people of the two rivers would put more stock in strong tools.

The re-forging scene in GoT (and indeed the opening scene of Conan) where molten steel is poured into a mould, while looking OK on screen is not at all how steel weapons were made or would be re-worked.  If you get iron or steel hot enough to melt it will usually burn (which is oxidisation, turning the iron to rust).  The valerian steel weapons are described as being of pattern welded steel - melting them would undo the layering which (along with whatever magic is involved) makes them strong and flexible.  You would heat them to the point were they can be forged with a hammer and re-work at that heat, not melt and cast.

But there is still a way to reforge the weapons As it happens in the books.

The same is not true of power wraught weapons in WOT.

Sir Charrid, they could have some technology we don’t, but if the AOL steel doesn’t rust, then Randland would have access to that same rustless, exceptional alloy for blades and the like, no one has mentioned anything like that yet.

White Veils, a warped beam can be trued up with a little blacksmithing. And while some of that metal would go to swords and the like, there would still be some Lord or Lady who can afford a dozen swords who would rather use those resources to keep the original beam and use it to hold up the roof to his ballroom… or at least the Queen of Camlyn’s throne room. We will see.

Did they ever mention anything about reforginger power wrought blades?

It's never mentioned in the books And so it's unclear whether or not power wraught steel from the age of legends could actually be reworked without undoing whatever created it in the 1st place.  That would explain why they don't take steel beams from buildings to reuse as weapons.

It makes perfect sense for them to have used power wraught steel to construct buildings and the age religion since it could withstand the elementss but It also makes sense that the process of creating power wraught steel Doesn't allow the product to be reforged afterwards without undoing the process.

Power waught weapons aren't like Valerian steel weapons from ASOIAF, Where the final product can be melted down and made into new weapons.

If they tried to melt down power wraught steel beams from old skyscrapers from the age of legends, They would likely end up with regular steel and not power wraught steel.

  9. Well, according to Rafe, Season 3 is going to follow the story much closer.....

Season 2 is a blend of books 2 and 3.....and Season 3 will be book 4.

So we will get to see the Aiel Wastes, and a lot of walking through deserts.

But it also means we have the Battle of the Two Rivers.  Another chance for Rafe to have a large scale trolloc battle, and prove he can do it right.

    Yes, I said exactly that.

But since it's still happening it has to be shown in order to be true to the story.

You can't Leave stuff like that out And still have the same scenes being played out.  You can do that in a book but on screen it's much harder..

Sad for me.  Not the ter'angreal itself, but how much the sexuality has been pushed to the forefront.  Jordan kept this mostly in the background and up to imagination - with major exceptions (specifically Rand and his first time with each of his three partners).  Percentage of this stuff in the books was way lower than what was shown in S1.

But this is just a personal hang-up for me.  Modern audiences demand more titillating content than this prude is used to.  Perhaps it is just the medium though.  I never minded reading the sexy scenes in WoT or GoT (which was much more graphic), but seeing it on the screen introduces a level of discomfort for me.

Maybe a psychologist could unravel the contradiction, hypocrisy, or whatever it is...

Well the book has a lot of stuff that is mentioned but not spelled out.  But it's still happening.

  12. 20 hours ago, DojoToad said:

    Correct.

My point wasn't addressing what people were or weren't claiming.  I was addressing you saying they are completely different.  They aren't.  They have several things in common which I listed.

The impact can be seen as subjective.  You are seeing them as completely different because the purpose of the oaths are different.  I'm seeing them as similar (not the same) because of what they have in common.  Similar, because 'wow' Aes Sedai have not done something like this before - so even though they have different purposes, I am comfortable putting them both in the 'same' category of similar events.  A big impact for Aes Sedai regardless of intended purpose.

Actually, I was pointing out that people who say that the two oaths would have the same impact were wrong, and that any similarities between them are completely incirmunstial.  It's like saying that a car and a plane are the same thing becaise they both carry people and are used for transportation.

  13. On 11/29/2022 at 4:24 AM, DojoToad said:

Yes, that is pretty obvious.   But it doesn't mean they can't have things in common.

Having something in common isn't the same as having the same overall impact on the story, which is what people were claiming.

  14. 13 hours ago, DojoToad said:

I didn't claim they were the same thing - but they have similarities:

    • Sworn oaths involving Amyrlin
    • Never done before - as far as we know
    • Aes Sedai ceding power
    • Considered scandalous

So while not the same thing there were enough similarities that might confuse the casual reader/watcher.

OK, again, the oath does completely different things.

All Aes Sedai are already sworn to obey even if it's not an official  oath under the oath rod.  What Suian did was to make that oath officially, but in a very limited way, with the only outcomiong being that Moiraine would not be able to try to return to the tower.

What Elaida wanted could have all Aes Sedai swear absolute fealty to her personally, not to the Amylin Seat, or to the Tower, but her.

If you're entire argument is that the oaths are both sworn to a sitting Amylin, I would have to question how you come to the conclusion  that the two oaths would be confusing..  I am pretty sure most viewers would see the oaths as so different in nature that the fact that they are both technically sworn to a sitting Amylin would be a non-issue.

  15.  I don't know why people equate these 2 oaths.

Elaida wanted all Aes Sedai To swear  fealty to her And to  Obey her every comman   Such an oath would have literally made her an absolute power Without any balances from Even the hall of the tower.   She could have Literally ordered the hall of the tower to change tower law to whatever she wanted it changed to even if it meant passing the law that says she could never be deposed.

That is very different from the oath that moraine swears in the show which is that she will accept a possibly permanent exile and will only return to the tower when commanded by the Sivan.

I am not sure how anyone would ever see that These 2 oaths are anywhere near being the same.

@Dagon Thyne totally agree! Would love to see most of it (maybe she gets flashbacks or something during one episode) but only when it's time for the reveal. I think we should be kept guessing until the last moment what her deal is.

I'm sure, like most of us book readers, many viewers will catch on that she's black ajah by book 3  and be really confused as to why she seems to always be helping Rand and company.

Maybe they can lean into it and have flashbacks of her killing innocents and stuff like that.  We all know she did alot of evil shit to get as high int the BA as she was.  Make the veiwers hate her as much as Harry Potter fans hated Snape, and frame her helping the good guys as her manipulating them.    Then give her a big reveal as a double agent.

I'm hoping we get to see more of Verin's sleuthing! We get a few bits and pieces in the books but most of the info is in a monologue to Egwene and the documents she leaves with her, which isn't a great format for TV. I'm biased though, as she was one of my favorites. I like that the books keep you guessing about who's side she's on, and I hope the same is true for the show.

They would have to be careful to not give away too much and ruin verins big moment.  Enough that the viewers can catch her lies and other hints but not enough that it gives away what shes really doing.

It would be best kept as a major plot twist like in the books

I hope you aren't disappointed by differences. Because there will certainly be some major differences from what you believe here.  Season 2 is going to combine good chunks of Great Hunt and Dragon Reborn, just to start, so there will be big differences just because they are doing that, but they have to change more than that.

    1. Portal Stones and Waygates will be combined. They can't have all these different magic transportations systems.   It's too weird.  Having just Waygates, which then, if you channel to open them differently (perhaps by accidents) act the way a Portal Stone would, leading to, eventually, being able to make portals without waygates, will combine all the non-Dream transportation systems into one.
    2. Mat will be going on his Book 3 journey, probably to rescue the girls.  He won't go with Perrin on the hunt for the horn...he's hardly in that book.   Perrin may be looking for the dagger to cure Loial or to take him to a stedding, or just to save the horn.
    3. Hurin will be combined with Elyas, brought by Ingtar as a tracker for the Horn.  Fewer superpowers to explain, and gives Perrin the training he needs.
    4. They will be introducing the Aiel earlier to set up for S3 (The Shadow Reborn), using Gaul's interaction with Perrin (possibly replacing Gaul with Aviendha) to introduce them and setting up that important character in a different way than she introduced in Dragon Reborn.
    5. They will probably split up the hero moments in the finale like they did in S1, giving Mat the hero moment of blowing the Horn and Perrin the hero moment of fighting High Lord Turok. (Rand fights Ishy, girls escape on their own).  Perrin and Mat were downplayed badly previous season for a number of reasons, and they need to make up for it to keep it balanced between all the heroes, which I think is their goal.

Cutting out Elias was a bad idea, IMHO.  He was the only character that really gave Perrin anything to do.  He didn't do much in the EOTW, and now he's all emo for most of the season because they chose to fridge his wife.
