What's your source on that as the last that's been heard about such a show to my knowledge was GRRM shooting the idea down a few years ago.

HBO owns the rights to screen adaptations of the series.  they can egally make any shows they want.  they do not need his consent to make an adaptation.  They simply are quoted to credit him and pay royalties.  just like Sony doesn't need Marval comic consent toake Spiderman movies because they own the rights

There's no Robert's Rebellion show in the works. The only prequel GoT prequel in the works currently is House of the Dragon a Targaryan focused show that will be pulling material from Fire and Blood.

They are planning to make one on Robert's Rebellion, and they may decide to contract him with so that hewill be available when they do.   If he signs wirh Amazon for WOT, he would't be able to do their show most likely.  HBO likes to sign people to no compete clauses to make sure they are available for future projects if they are sure that the person is their choice.

Not a bad choice, as long as he's athletic enough to make it believable that's he's a highly gifted swordsman.

He might not be available because I think he's HBO's choice for their GOT Robert's Rebellion prequel series.  So HBO might end up signing him so he's under contract and they can keep him from signing onto shows that would interfere with their scheduling.

Here's a thought: what if the opening scene is Gitara's Foretelling to Moiraine and Siuan? That way you get action (Battle of the Shining Walls), some Aes Sedai right off the bat (including Moiraine to center her more), and some weight to the Dragon Reborn. If you do it right, it wouldn't immediately give away that it's Rand, but it's kinda obvious pretty quickly anyhow.

If you do Gitara's Foretelling/Battle of Shining Walls as prologue, then voiceover and credits, then Empty Road as Dagon says, you also get a sense of how much time Moiraine has spent searching.

I think they will have Gitara's foretelling, and other major scenes from New Spring, as flashbacks throughout the series.  They shouldn't reveal from the start exactly why Moiraine is doing what she is doing  Leave it a mystery.  That's how the character is supposed to be.  RJ went as far as hinting she was black Ajah early on, with her being hinted as one of the Aes Sedai at the Darkfriend Social in The Great Hunt.  They need to have that air of mystery and the possibility she is using Rand and the others.

Unless I'm thinking of another event. He didn't revive a dead tree. He walked through an Orchard, and reversed the DO's taint on the apples. Apples which were immediately rotting as soon as they were ripe.

You should really check out Theoryland's interview database.

    https://www.theoryland.com/intvsresults.php?kw=ta'veren

Ta'Veren is just part of it, but it's not the only reason events like that happen.

Now reference back to my original comments.

His physical and mental health are both literally tied to the land, in adition to being a Ta'Veren.
It's something unique to Rand, like being a wolf brother is unique to Perrin, or being a lucky gambler is unique to Mat.

Rand is literally tied to the land.

His Ta'Veren nature warps the probability of crops spoiling or producing an abundance. It tips the balance of harvested grain spoiling, infested with rats, or remaining pristine.

Similar, Mat's Nature as Ta'Veren warps probability of Odds, and Perrin's ability to sway people to his side. (Rand does both, only with brute Force.)

Ta'Veren nature typically warps probability in the Ta'Veren's favor.

I described his effect on the land as similar to a bubble of evil, because unlike Ta'Veren, a bubble of evil defies probability and creates the impossible.

We have a few things going on here.

    1) The land didn't truly start to go bad, until after Rand's injury. It's hard to say, was the DO actively making the land rot? Or was he using Rand's connection to the land, to make the land Rot? Or both?

    2) DO's bubbles of evil. I don't know if we know if the DO can control them, or make them do what he wants. But these things caused all kinds of havoc on the land. I'm sure plenty of bubbles caused grain to spontaneously rot.

    3) Rand's Ta'Veren nature, leads to weird things happening with the land. Crops suddenly not producing, to crops unnaturally bountiful. Grain spoiling for no reason, rats just devouring. To Grain that got flooded is perfectly fine.

Wherever Rand went, weird things happened like that, and It wasn't always 50/50 good/bad..

    4) When Rand was basically reborn on Dragonmount, his physical and mental state were effectively healed.
The land was healed. It's entirely plausible that the land itself started to heal. But the damage was already done.

Where Rand Walked after Dragonmount, the Land around him, almost in a Bubble of Good, did the impossible, and full-stop reversed/healed the damage dealt.

Do we know how much of that was Ta'Veren? How much was this land-connection? Probably not. There was a reason I mentioned Rand and King Arthur.. Whom was also the Fisher King.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fisher_King

In the prologue of TGS, when the farmer is discussing the coming Last Battle.  He notices that an apple tree which had died and had no fruit was suddently full of fresh, plump apples, unless I misread the entire prologue.

Ta'veren effect odds, they can make something that is not likely to happen happeb more often, or something that was all but ensured happen much less.  Like Mat's gambling.  They could cause someone to die in a freak accidently that would normally not have even hurt them, or cause someone to survive a an accident that would have almost certainly killed them.

But they can't cause the impossible to happen.  But even there is any chance at all that something could happen, they can make it happen.

Mat seems to have far more control, with his ta'veren nature effecting his gambling based on his needs, like causing him to lose when he is in danger of something becoming angry or suspicious of his wins.  But it still requires at least a slight possibily.

Ta'veren don't simply effect odds though. They influence life threads to create change. They're a focal point for ta'maral'ailen; correcting the Wheel when the weave begins to drift away from the Pattern it's supposed to be following.

They seem to impact the Pattern based on their own personalities and skills, as Lii mentioned. Perrin's ta'veren role seems to be his ability to hold sway over people, so they do /say / react to things they otherwise wouldn't. Mat, on the other hand, does, as you say, twist the laws of chance. That tends to be limited to his immediate environs rather than widespread.

Rand, however, being incredibly strong, causes lots of unpredictable / improbable things to occur, from throwing the laws of chance out of whack to causing an apple tree to regenerate. It's out of his control, covering anything from a small, local area to being spread much further afield.

But something has to actually be possible for a ta'veren to cause it to happen.  They can't literally make the impossible happen.  For example Rand didn't cause the bags of grain to become unspoiled, he simply effected the odds that the remaning bags hadn't spoiled yet.

Another ta'veren, no matter how powerful they were ta'varen, wouldn't have caused the dead apple tree to come back to life.  Only Rand could have done that.  I don't think even someone more ta'varen than rand would have made it happen.  I think it's specifically an effect caused by the Dragon Reborn, which isn't caused by him being ta'veren.

  7. No they don't.  All angreal and sa'angreal do is enhance one's own ability to channel, and allow them to use more of the one power than they would be able to on their own.

It's ta'angreal which has actual uses, and can actually do thing with the one power.  For example, the flying machines in the AOL were powered by ta'angreal which generated electricity, literally turning the one power into electrical current to power the machines.

  8. Some people have theorized that she was a channelor by the fact that she has three names, which is apparently reserved for channelors.

However, I think her name was Ilyena Moerelle, and LTT's original name was simply Lews Therrin, with Therrin being his family name and she took his family name when they married.  Much like the full name of a married women under most western cultures is her Husband's Surname, followed by her own surname with a hyphen between them.

Under American name system her name would have been Ilyena Moerella-Therin.

The Tinkers forgot their history. This was revealed in the Rhuidean vision in book 4.

In the prologue of EOTW, LTT asked if Ishamael had "the Voice", which is basically the human version of Treesinging.

I always thought that he was asking if Ishy could sing.  Never realized it was an actual type of singing.  I figured that singing was just traditional in the culture that LTT and his family took part in, and he was asking Ishy if he could sing and wanted to take part.

  10. 1; Let Logain fight Taim,  Giving it to Egwene ruined 3 books worth of buildup into a final battle between Logain and the Black Tower, and Taim and his Dreadlords.  There are many other ways Egwene can get herself killed....

2; Drop the "Flame of Tar Valon" weaves all together.  The entire point of Balefire is that is literally burns away the pattern.  Having a weave that can just "unburn" the pattern completely destroys the point.  Balefire is supposed to be so dangerous that even the Forsaken, other than Ishamael, are hesitant to use it.

3; Don't focus too much on Moiraine.  WOT isn't the type of story that has a "main character".  It's supposed to be more like GOT, and have multiple, branching story arcs going at the same time.

4; You have to make sure the include the best characters in the series..... Narg, Paitr, and Unnamed Darkfriends Numbers 2-5.

  11. A few of the story arcs in the middle of the series don't need entire books.  The Bowl of Winds can really just be dropped completly, and they can a lot of the rest can be blended into other books instead of having their own seasons.

  12. He is playing Tam al'Thor.  My money was on one Gareth Bryne.  I was thinking they would use Tam, who is an importaat, but smaller role, and who wouldn't really appear much in the series, for a major name who could draw eyes to the show by name recognition.

I want them to do that with Ishmael, use a major actor for the first few seasons, then replace him with a lesser known one when he's reborn as Moridin.

I think I saw that Harriet had input on the casting, but I doubt she had veto or final say. And I think Brandon said he only got to see audition tapes or something. I might be misremembering. I do not at all blame Hayden Christianson for what he did with Anakin Skywalker. I believe he just worked with the script he was given, the little (read that as "no") directing he was given by Lucas, and the fact that they had no rehearsals. I've heard numerous critics and entertainment pundits say that Hayden has put in great performances in many other projects, so I don't doubt that he is a good actor, he just had crap to work with (including working opposite an actor, Natalie, who didn't even want to be there). Oh, and Nae'blis is awesome. If the series becomes as big of a hit as we all hope, his channel is going to explode and he'll dang near be a rockstar LOL. Poor poor Daniel...

I'm expecting a mix of practical and CGI for the Trollocs and especially on the Myrddraal. For the Fades the eyeless face would be practical makeup, but the cloak would be entirely a CG creation so that it only moves due to the movement of the actor. I've thought about this way to much (many nights laying in bed trying to fall asleep), and this is the only solution I can think of to keep the Fade's cloak from moving in response to the wind. Multiple Myrddraal would also require CGI; since all Fades look the identical they would all be played by the same actor (I really want Adrian Brody for this), and that would necessitate cloning him with a computer for shots of more than one. Large masses of Trollocs would be done in the computer instead of in the camera as well, that's cheaper and easier than making prosthetics and masks for dozens or more Trollocs. Wide shots of certain Trollocs, namely ones with highly non-human feet and legs, will have to be CG-ed to give them the appropriate legs (the actors would be wearing chromakey socks/boots).

That doesn't require CGI at all. Peter Jackson did that with the Hobbits and Gimli in The Lord of the Rings movies with just forced perspective alone, although they did build some special sets so that they could have moving cameras while doing this trick shot. Check out the special features on the DVD set of the Extended Edition of The Fellowship of the Ring to see and learn more. It might also be on YouTube by now, if NewLine hasn't had it taken down.

For really close up scenes, when the characters are literally face to face with Trollocs and forced perspective isn't an option, the stunt performers playing the Trollocs would be wearing some sort of stilts or be standing on appleboxes.

There are myriad tricks that they have come up with for this sort of thing over the years. You don't need a computer to do it. That said, as you can see from above, I do think CG should be used for some aspects of the Shadowspawn.

I am hoping the show puts forward a feminist agenda, and is LGBT friendly. Rafe can throw as much of that first one in there as he wan-- What? Huh? Those are in the books? Oh! ? Okay... ?Yeah he can still push those agendas all he wants.

I hope David is fine with that. But if he stops watching, sad as that might be, that's just one person lost. Maybe a couple more, who know how many friends he has, and how many would have watched in the first place. I'm sure the show will survive that tragedy.

And so far, the only people I have seen raising concerns about this show have been worrying about some sort of pro-gay agenda from Rafe because he's gay and the showrunner. I've literally seen some idiot on YouTube say they are worried Rafe's going to have two of the Emond's Field boys get together.

Basically, by bringing your baseless concern up, you outed your self (or at the least colored yourself) as someone frightened by the Progress and change our society has gone through over the past couple of decades when it comes to LGBT issues, as well as feminism. Doesn't matter if you are or not, that's the big ol' sticker you went and put on your forehead.

He's already hinted that he wants to turn Rand-Elayne-Aviendha into a poly-amorous relationship, where Elayne and Aviendha are in love with each other and not just BFF's who share Rand.  So that will make the 3 page bath scenes FAR more interesting.

  14. I'm better it's a sister.  He does have several.  Maybe she is visiting for Bel Tine and to see him.  They could have her be killed during Winternight, which wouldn't change anything since his entire family ends up dead when the trollocs attack a year or two later.  So having one of them die early and be introduced would be ok.

  15. The opening scene will definately be Moiraine and Lan entering Emonds Field.  She is supposed to be the main character for the show.  So it only makes sense.

I don't consider the opening scene to include the prologue.  I think the prologue and Dragonmount will play out first, than the credits, and the first official scene after the credits will be Moiraine and Lan.

I muyself would have it go Prologue, followed by the voiceover by Pike reciting the opening lines  to the book, and the have the opening credit scene follow a "wind" around the Two Rivers, then fade into the beginning of An Empty Road.

  16. I always wondered if they would have any of Perrin's family there.  I mean, I know he's living with the Luhhans while under his apprenticeship, but his family does own a farm in the Westwoods, and it doesn't make sense for none of them to be in Emond's Field for Bel Tine.  So maybe they will introduce some of his family, and let the viewers get to know them a little.  I mean, in the books his family is barely mentioned, and the reader doesn't know them at all, so it's hard to feel any real connection they you find out they all were , not the way you would feel if Tam or Bran died.  And it's the same with Mat's family.  You never see them until his sisters end up at the White Tower.  All you really know about themis that he calls his father Da.

anyone remember when this link was formed? could be the big unnoticed thing lol...

it was when they struck their balefire together at Shodar Logoth.  When Rand and Nynaeve were cleansing Saidin.  They were both burned out of the pattern as a result, but the act of using balefire was also erased, which created a paradox, which could have destroyed the entire pattern.  The Wheel weaved them into one soul to compensate.
