Fair enough if that is what RJ said

Always pictured them as Welsh due to all the similarities.

Cairhein French, Andor English, which would then put the Two Rivers as Wales geographically. Colouration the Welsh are northern European but usually with dark hair and eyes.

Importance of Longbow, the Welsh invented the longbow and this was then adopted by the English.

    Sheepfarmers

The Two rivers use ofthe longbow is supposed to be some sort of link to Nottinghamshire I think.  Nottinghamshire and the sherwood forest areas in general were famous for skills with bows.  it's why robin good traditionally was the best archer in the world according to the later legends.  That's how I always saw it.  It makes sense.  All the two rivers men who travel with Perrin were skilled trackers and archers, and the use of quarterstaffs in the two rivers also fits, since it's a tradition weapon in Nottinghamshire.

  2. Accent and culture are two different things dude.  RJ mixed several different cultures into all different regions.

But RJ himssaid stated that the two rivers accent was irish.

    Andor is british

    Cairhien is french

    Tear is Spanish.

Illian is Dutch (though it reads more like a heavy scottish accent on paper)

    Seanchan is texan

    Aiel is slavic

But that is all ACCENT.  He then mixed different cultures together.

This is why the Seanchan speak in a texan accent but have a culture based on the Chinese Empire, and why people of Domani use chop sticks but are not asian in culture or in ethnicity.  And why the Shinarans wear samurai armor, but asn't japanese by ethnicity.

  3. I think they should stick with the general accents that RJ gave them...

    Two Rivers; Irish

    Andor; British

    Cairhien; French

    Tear; Spanish

There is really no reason for Moiraine to even have a Cairhien accent.  You can't tell me she speaks in one throughout the story.  None of the chacters mention her accent.  They simply think she has a song-like voice.  If you ask me, Moiraine likely masks her accent, and doesn't use her natural one.  There's no reason why the Cairhien can't still speak with a french accent if Moiraine doesn't.

    I would agree with this.

Aviendha and Elayne spend most of their time away from Rand, particularly Elayne. In fact Elayne spent so little time with Rand you have to question how she came to decide she was in love with him.

Min is going to be with Rand all the way as he struggles with his darkness and also brings in a perspective that isn't powerful source user but a more normal woman.

Sure they are going to cut cast members and create composite characters (I don't see how they can do otherwise) but there is a core to the story without which you don't have WOT.

None of them DECIDED they loved him.  They all knew it the moment they met him.   They were draw into loving him by his nature as a Ta'veren.

  5. I think they will have Min still there, but they might cut her relationship with Rand.  I think they will end up being close friends instead of lovers, and Min's part in the story will be her being an associate of Moiraine's more than her being in love with Rand.  I do think her visions will play a part of the story though.

    That could work I guess

Done well, and tastefully, adding LGBT elements to WOT is no more going to ruin it than showing Renly and Loras together ruined GOT. It has to be done right though and not be simply gratuitous on the one hand, or ruining the characters on the other.

A Polyamorous relationship between the four is a good example where you are not changing the core story much as far as I can see. Also shouldn't that be a love quadrangle

It would defiately make those 5 page bath scenes FAR more interesting XD

  7. The showrunners have already clearly stated that they intend to bring the same sex relationships out of the background of the story.

They have suggested that they plan to turn Rand's love triangle into a more Polyamourous relationship, with the women being in love with each other as well as Rand.  This means that they could add a lesbian story arc for Elayne and Aviendha.

  8. You are assuming that his parents had brothers and sisters.  Rand never mentions or thinks of any family other than Tam and Kari, until he learns about Tigraine and Galad being his birth mother and brother, but Galad being his half brother never really matters in the story.  They don't even talk ever I don't think.

I’ll be surprised if the show addresses the ageless look beyond maybe a comment about not being able to put an age to someone. RJ was great in describing it in words, but it’s something else entirely trying to pull it off visually. It could get expensive (Marvel has done some excellent de-aging CGI, but I doubt it was cheap), or just look terrible, or both. Movie makeup and lighting are great at making people look good. They just need to have Aes Sedai look young for their age, and (more importantly) carry their year and maturity in their acting.

They will probably use make up, and given them a elf-like look.  You remember how the elves in the hobbit and Lord of the rings looked.  That's how imagine the "ageless" look appearing on screen,

  10. The ageless look is caused by the Oath Rod.  Normally, the channelors would simply age extremely slowly.  This is why LTT looked like he was around 40 even through he was well over 300 years old when he died.  Same is true for the Kin,some of whom were a few hundred years old.

The Oath rod literally stops natural aging at a certain point, but the person begins to give off an aura of maturity, and you can tell that they are older than they look.

While it's true that Aes Sedai keep the smooth skin of a 20-something, the books say over and over though that you can't put any age to an Aes Sedai. At first glance they look young, at next glance they look older, then younger again.

The reason they can't put age to them isn't because they physically look older, but because of the aura they give off.  They just seem to be more mature and wise, and you end up with the feeling that they are older than they seems, and it's impossible to what their true age is.  They don't seem to age back and fourth with every glance.

Moiraine is in her 40s. And she might not look exactly how you pictured, but you haven’t seen her in makeup and costume yet.

Moiraine is in her mid-40's but looks like she's 25.  It clearly states this,   When Rand first sees her, he thinks she's no older than Nynaeve, who is 24-25 in the first book, but then he realized she also has a look of maturity and wisdom in her eyes.  Physically she looks very young.

The "ageless" look of an Aes Sedai doesn't actually make them look older.   They still look young, but they give off an aura of maturity and wisdom that someone who looks as young as their do shouldn't have.

I lived in TX for 14 years and the only part about Seanchan that could relate to Texas is their speech--that did make me think of the Texas (or southern) drawl.

Asian in culture yes, but their accent, according to RJ, is based on Texas.  Culture and accents do not match in the series.  You have the Shienarans who are not asian at all using katanas and wearing samurai armor.   You have the Domani using the quivelent of chopsticks, and slicing their food into slivered (kinda like stir fry), while also not being asian.

Basically, the Seanchan are gonna be a mix of of ethnicities, but mostly all speaking with a Texas accent.  When it comes to ethnicity, the Seanchan are actually the most diverse,...

Tuon is black (having skin like ebony)

    Other Seanchan are white.

There are several native-Americanish tribes in Seanchan as well.

Saldean eyes sound like asian to me, RJ mixed ethnicity up so not all casting will exactly match the books I'm thinking

No, he mixed CULTURE up.  Not ethnicity.  He stated clearly that Saldeans are the equivlent of North Africans when it comes to ethnicity.  He was very clear on what ethnicities each region was based on.  Then he mixed different cultures into each region as well.

Andor and Cairhien are based on England and France.  They, along with Tear, are among the only nations which are based on a single country.  Tear being Spanish in both ethnicity and culture.

How Texan? I am from Texas and don't see it. They to me are more like the Asian culture than anything else.

According to RJ, the Seanchan accent is an Texas accent.

However, when it comes to their ethnicity, there isn't one single one.  The "Blood" are decended from people from the Westlands, which would have all sorts of ethnicities because they would be from all over the Westlands, but Luthar's armies also mated with Seanchan natives who are primarily based on Native American tribes.

Their culture is based on the Chinese and Japanese Empires mostly with the emperor/empress being viewed as an almost god-like being and all people being their property.

They could still keep them as 3 lovers, just not 3 ongoing simultaneous lovers. Relationships end amicably and they remain friends/allies.

From what they have released on their plans, it sounds like, Elayne and Aviendha will share him, but will also be in a romantic relationship with each other.  It sounds like they are planning on having their relationship be a more polyamorous feel to it, with all of them sharing each other.  I'm unsure of what this means for his relationship with Min, because even in the books she didn't really ever feel comfortable with sharing him, and she and Aviendha never really got that close.

  17. I hope they get someone big to play Ishy.  Since the actor would only be in a few seasons, it would be possible to have them on the show, and then replace them with a lesser known actor once Ishy is dead, and ressurrected as Moridin.

Michael Fassbender would be an amazing Ishy.  Having him on there as a primary antagonist for a few seasons would draw A LOT of eyes.  It's the sort of thing that Amazon might be willing to plurge for.  I saw a picture someone made with himwith flames in his eyes and mouth, and it gave me goosebumps.

  18. My main issue is that she is far too old.  Moiraine is supposed to generally look arounf 25, same as Nynaeve.

Her agelessness is more based on the vibe that people get from her, the maturity and wisdom in her eyes, and how she holds herself, more then her actual appearance.

Oh dear. I love her as an actress, and I think she would make an amazing Cads, or even Morgase, or Amys, but just ... not Moiraine. Why oh why must they kick off by "whitewashing" a character who's always seemed more Asian by description? You don't get more "perfect porcelain doll" than Asian women. This does not bode well for the rest of the casting. Just my humble opinion.

Moiraine is not asian by any stretch of the imagination.  She is from Cairhien, which is a country that is almost completely white.  There is nothing in any physical description of Moiraine that even remotely points to her being asian in any way shape or form.  She is said to have large eyes, brown hair, and pale skin.

  20. People said that Heath Ledger didn't have the range to play the joker, I don't think it's wise to judge someone based solely on their previous acting.

However, just on looks, don't think she's the right choice.

1; She's several inches too tall.

2; While attractive, she wouldn't be able to pass for the age that Moiraine physically looks (without taking into account the ageless look, which I would say is mid-late 20's, perhaps early 30's.

If they are choosing her just for the drawing power of having an award winning/nominated actress in the lead role, they could have better suited actresses.

Tatiana Maslany is one.  She is much closer to how I would see Moiraine looking, and she is much closer in height.    She's won Emmies and Golden Globes for her work on Orphan Black.
