Positive reviews don’t correlate to more viewer, though. If a chunk checked out after S1, and then another after S2, the quality of the show might not be enough to recoup those losses. This is just conjecture as we won’t know anything until Amazon says something.

In S1-2 he carried Tam’s sword over his right shoulder and I remember noting that he shot his bow right-handed. I honestly didn’t pay attention to his hands when he was training with Lan this season. I did note Avi’s comment but more as an Easter egg than the continuation of 2.5 seasons of them paying attention to what hands he’s using.

True to both of those. Maybe I’m just having some memories of messing with a tiny nephew who wasn’t so sure about me 🤪

It’s good set up. That said, when he growls at her and chases her I’m surprised she took is as playing. It was a sweet moment, but when you think about it, he’s a stranger, admits to fulfilling a prophecy, then goes “grrrrrr.” Part of me thought the kid was going to freak out, lol.

If Lanfear was responsible for the “bubbles of evil,” why is it that we did not see any weaves? -
A group of fools does not make the untrue true.

It bothers me in that it is inorganic and feels forced. All people ever want to say is that there is “evidence” that some characters may have had a relationship or that a show relationship is some sort of extrapolation of themes in the book. Sure, Siuan and Moiraine were “pillow friends,” a term that is never actually explained and can mean many things in the context of an all-girls school. Make whatever you want of it. There are also 15 books - including New Spring - which go into all of daydreaming about men to flirting to marrying, etc. But this is a derailment of the topic. It was claimed that all changes were made in good faith but we have it on record that Rafe threatened to change characters just to spite fans. Whether you agree with the changes or think he was justified in lashing out, that statement alone is an example of bad faith.
-
Wait, so you’re admitting here that this show has been altered based on the writers’ personal interests and what they believe are the appropriate social mores of the time but you co time to argue that this is a faithful adaptation and not a fanfic using an existing IP?
-
Rafe: I’m going to make characters gay just to anger fans. -Moiraime is gay. -Susan is gay. -Elayne is gay. -Aviendha is gay. -Ishamael might be gay. -Rand’s ancestor is gay. ”Good faith”

I met my wife over thirty years ago. She was young, vibrant, gorgeous, brilliant, funny, and the absolute love of my life. Then we got married and once we were legally bound together I set about trying to change everything about her that I thought needed changing to better conform with how I think a woman should be. That’s love, right? Dont let the handful of people here who will defend absolutely anything and then shoot you down for your opinions distract you from the fact that this show continually disrespects source material and many recognize this on its face.

*Gasp* Loial is Tonks! WoT confirmed to be Harry Potter sequel! -
Oof, I don’t particularly mind the things like Arwen/Glorfindel or the Elves/Dunedain because I can understand how that is part of adapting a story - keeping the movies a little tighter, maybe fewer characters or returning faces so the audience follows better, etc. that Faramir thing was by far the most egregious for me because it was a complete change of his character and he went from a hero in the book to a borderline villain ready to finish his brother’s mistake in the movie. It’s painful to watch. Bringing it back to this show, I have felt from the start that a vast majority of the characters were given the Faramir treatment. They may ultimately end up in some of the same place or do the same things, but that internal character - the personalities, motivations, worldviews, etc., seem changed in virtually every character.

You continue to attack other posts if they bring up legitimate issues. Putting (IMO) in parenthesis doesn’t change that. We could read your posts and say “Which shows you must be terrible at your supposed craft (IMO)” and it has the exact same weight as your retort. Whenever other posts bring up logical or writing inconsistencies your response amounts to “you don’t know what you’re talking about but I do because I took a creative writing class.” Appeal to authority is a fallacy, especially when the supposed authority is yourself. @Mailman’s post is valid and a great many outside of a few select echo chambers agree that the show is lesser for the fanfic treatment the source has gotten.

Wheel of Time Season 3 - Full Season Discussion

Ha, it works. I mean, that means Loial is a dyer, but oh well. Speaking of growing out, I want the writers to change all the book references to Perrin’s beard to references to his hair. It needs to get bigger every season! -
The Hobbit is a great example of corporate interference since by all accounts many, many of the changes were based on mandates to do things like have a strong female character, include a love story, pad it out to make 3 movies, etc. ad nauseum. Peter Jackson is still complicit but from what I understand the LotR trilogy was a passion project and the Hobbit trilogy was a corporate Frankenstein. Tying is back to this show, it certainly feels more the latter than the former.

This show has spent more time making up scenes/story/dialogue for the show runner’s boyfriend than it does for: 1) Rand sword training. 2) The Eye of the World 3) Thom 4) Accepted tests 5) Eggy as damane 6) Eggy mastering dreams 7) Perrin with wolves Just to name a few. Yes, “room to breathe” is a big problem with the show and while it is obviously an impossible task to adapt a series this rich and long to TV without certain cuts, some of the made-up nonsense does not need to be in the show. Pacing is a huge issue in this show. -
Wheel of Time Season 3 - Full Season Discussion

Is there a reason Loial was blonde for two seasons and suddenly has dark hair in season 3? -
And every time you shut down a critique you act like the infallible god of storytelling. Even in a vacuum removed from the source material this plot has more holes than Swiss cheese, horrible pacing issues, logical inconsistencies, and an entire armories of Chekhov’s guns that are either forgotten or lazily used and then forgotten. But you are right to the extent that every change has purpose insomuch as every change was presumably written by a human. Other reasons that you conveniently left out are 1) style over substance, 2) disconnect between multiple writers and multiple directors, 3) immaturity/incompetence, 4) an explicitly stated desire to “modernize” the story, 5) shifting tones to piggyback off the popularity of other shows, 6) pissant writers who truly think their ideas are better than the source material that they don’t respect. I’ve liked schlock before. There is nothing wrong with being entertained by mediocrity. Yet to die on the hill of defending mediocrity from any valid criticism says far more about the apologist than the product.

I wrote a post about how the sea folk dress and it felt icky and decided to just edit this all out. Can we delete posts?

Oh my goodness, I meant Rhuarc. This is why I should drink my coffee before posting anything online…
-
Hey, I was giving the show one of my very rare benefits of the doubt, but if you tell me there were actually no excuses for it looking half-baked, I’m fine running with that…
-
if I remember correctly, there were budget and/or COVID issues in season 1, and for all the stuff I am happy to nitpick, I understood the issues where it related to that scene…the fact that the trend continues, though, is troubling. I haven’t felt yet that I’ve seen an “army” anywhere, and even Falme felt like a small skirmish. There have got to be some cinematic tricks that they could start using to make it feel larger in scope.

The causal use of stabbing needs to stop now. It is ridiculous how often people are getting stabbed multiple times in this show and not only being healed instantly but acting like it barely happened. And then we are supposed to simultaneously believe that a wound is debilitating or deadly? Peering just took an axe to a chest earlier this season and shrugged it off but a knife to the side this week should be concerning?
-
This episode was a bit bland after last week. I liked seeing Mat bicker with Nyn and Elayne. Gaul is barely used but he’s great. I also liked that Mat’s mom was burned at the stake. I’ve complained that this show is inconsistent (like having Natti care less about the girls in S1E1 but sacrifice herself here - that’s out of character for the show), but having Valda treat her mercilessly fits his behavior throughout the show. Was this the first time we see the sea folk? Why aren’t Bain and Chiad veiled in the Whitecloak camp? This is such a frustrating thing as it is such a defining characteristic in the books and was at least explained in the show. Are we supposed to pretend at this point that Mat’s dagger/lightsaber/ashinarai never existed?
