1. Hahaha was it Anni 9? 120's a lot even for POG mashes but that's one hell of a crash course. Anni 10 was my first mash and I still remember so many details and how utterly lost I felt. Luckily one guy played so poorly his name became a verb, so my poor performance was quickly forgotten. XD
2. 40+ player games, usually 60-80. Typically with 12 hour phases and a day phase death mechanic where every player is given a gun with a 15% hit chance to fire at whoever they want to. Traditionally mashes start on Mondays and are designed with enough kill power to always end by Friday, so you can play at work. You are expected to not read every post. Rather, effective strategy as a villager is to form pockets of people you trust and eliminate wolves by process of elimination. Effective strategy as a wolf is to go big and loud, exploit the time restraints to kill the town core before it can form. It's a lot more... free? I think? than regular Werewolf. You can wolf pretty openly and not worry about the long con. You can contribute a lot as a villager without great wolf reads if you're just able to find a bunch of villagers and keep them out of the line of fire. No one expects you to read the thread outside of the time you actively spend in it, and it's fair play to just show up at your lunch break and shoot who you're told to. There's a lot of leverage to accommodate variance in how busy you are. But it's certainly an adjustment; 30,000 posts can be overwhelming on its face, takes a sort of mental reset to realize you don't have to read them. After 20 years of this basic format, the zoomer crowd started introducing Friday starts last year. It's unplayable for anyone with a normal 9-5 job and family. A lot of these games I couldn't play anymore if I wanted to. But that wasn't the leading factor in stepping away. I'm just disconnected with their perception of politeness. The same wording I've been using to express reads on people and opinions of game designs for a decade tends to rub people like I'm being aggressive now, and I don't get it or care enough to figure it out.
3. I've played 72 mashes, just "retired" last fall. It's sort of my specialty lol. But the demographics have shifted and I have a hard time enjoying myself when most of the players are zoomers. Too many cultural barricades, feels like I'm constantly accidentally offending people and I just can't relate to them. Some of you probably felt the same way when my generation rolled into the game a decade ago lol
4. Back in my day we would just say things like "You can't communicate with the rest of your team". XD
5. It was unique to my role and the rest of the wolves had a wolf chat. What caught me off guard was that I was expected to assume I wasn't supposed to have access to it or else ask a host. I just dove head first into PMing my team mates. My role was "Recluse, Self-targetable, Compulsive (x3 ITA Shots, 30% ITA Hit Chance, x2 ITA Shield, 3% ITA Booster, 3% ITA Nerfer) Mafia Fruit Vendor" Somewhere in this string of words I was supposed to know that I don't have access to wolf chat. Everyone but me thought this was obvious. Your guess is as good as mine lol
6. I'm not advocating running games there because I like the on-site revival and think we should keep things here where possible, but Dragonmount does have a dedicated subforum on Mafia Universe where we can create private access dead threads.
7. I asked to be mod killed because it compromised the intended set-up. But I did think it was a little silly when everyone thought I was an idiot for assuming wolf communication was allowed instead of asking a host first. Things are just done differently these days. I still remember when it was expected of wolves to set up their own wolf chat. Everyone's like, yeah but that hasn't been the norm for 8 years. Ok well, 8 years isn't a very long time when you're older. XD
8. DM's never been hyper formal about wolf communication so I assume wolves can use Discord if they want to. I really showed my boomer on MU last year when I randed wolf but didn't get a wolf chat link and started PMing my team mates. The host explained that I should have taken it for granted I can't communicate with them unless explicitly directed to an official wolf chat. Got mod killed for it. XD
9. Discord is an obvious solution but I respect DM's long-standing commitment to forum rather than chat-based communication. This site used to have the capacity for a private DVC subforum, we just didn't go that route because QT was easier. I don't know if the current iteration of DM can do that.
10. Holy crap, we need a better dead thread solution than group PMs. I checked my email today and had gotten one for every single post in the conversation, had to delete over 300. I don't want to turn the setting off, because it's nice to know when I get a PM under normal circumstances.
11. gg wolves, well played. Thanks for hosting Ithi Feeling pretty good that I had a winning POE on day 1 and didn't live long enough to make a fool of myself walking it back 😄 Newish players, not saying this always works but it certainly worked in this instance; I kind of read nothing and solved the game just looking at vote counts last night. Your classic "wagonomics":
12. That was certainly an experience. I am happy to say that everyone is safe, and while half of the roof caved in, it stopped in the attic and none of the living areas were severely damaged. Can't say the same for the landscape, which was a catastrophic loss. About 20-30 trees down. Added some pics in spoiler for the curious below. Good luck town!
13. Uh My parents just lost the roof of their house in a tornado. I dunno if they're going to stay with me or find a hotel or just live in the basement for a couple weeks because the rest of the structure seems to be intact, but if I have to sub out y'all know why.
14. If I absolutely had to choose right now I'd shoot Lenlo because I'm still not over the theatrical nature of his early push on Zander and his stubborn resistance to admitting it was theatrical. But I'd have also found a minute last night to read his later posts and didn't do that because I don't have a gun anyway, so not 100% informed on his progression.
15. Bold is good. Bold is Zander village brain. We stayed home from church because my daughter's sick but I've devoted maybe 10 minutes to the game since I checked out yesterday and I'm leaving again now.
16. Turin/Lenlo/RTE all resolve things floating around in my head but don't consider that an endorsement so much as an if I had to submit a cop check on someone in the next 30 seconds I'd roll the dice between them.
17. there was almost certainly one or two more but I am not going to dig much right now
18. I think you missed some posts along the way, which is understandable because I posted a lot. I had stated that I was going to vote you unless I found something better a number of times, was just waiting to finish reading all the posts first.
19. In case I worded that funny, what I mean was wolves knew he was a villager and paid less attention. People who noticed he was being wolfy (see: myself and Cass, though I hope we can find someone I don't already know is town out of it) are less likely to be wolves themselves.
20. Interesting shift wrt me given I voted someone who was admittedly being wolfy. Shouldn't you be more concerned about people who were not suspicous of Verbal? Wolves would have been less perceptive that he was laying cover for a claim. My head goes back to Turin's reads, though again I'm not going to read anything more until day 2.
21. Not sure what DM standards are for keeping it light at night but I don't have time to read content right now anyway so I'll just offer some general advice on what happened. Didn't read the reasons outside of the claim, did look at the vote progression. RTE was ripe for the lynching, obvious consensus backup candidate, yet no one went there. No one touched Lenlo either, who was a viable third option. I expect wolves on Cass if either of them are scum, especially RTE since mislynching him would have been so easy. If Lenlo and RTE are villagers, wolves have less incentive to move. They're content with the game state. The CFD is more likely to be clean. Villagers panicked. With the caveat that some players had to move because of the claim. Timing of shifts is relevant. Zander is somewhat apart from that. He does some goofy things and could still be town, but switching from someone he called wolfy all day to someone he called a villager and who happens to be better than most at reading him is suspicious on its face, and I'm going to have to release some of my good feels about him and reassess. Again, I say these things without having read the content that lead to it. It's just a starting point, not worlds I fully believe in yet.
22. Just popping in to say I don't think I'll be posting more before EoD. I gotta use my next break to prep dinner and then the kids will be home. For my own reference because I'm having trouble finding things here, I left off reading top of p45.
23. In episode 3 Twilight Sparkle goes on a hilarious adventure with Applejack and Fluttershy and inadvertently saves a puppy.
