Are Mafia Games even a thing here now?
Turin Turambar replied to Ithillian Turambar's topic in DM Mafia Games
First fact of mafia. I'm never mafia Second fact of mafia. If I'm not killed on Night 1, I'm probably mafia. Third fact of mafia. I have no idea what I'm doing. At least one of these is false. VOTE DICETOSSER for old times sake. -
What Do You Most Want to See in S3?
Turin Turambar replied to DreadLord31's topic in Wheel of Time TV Show
With regards to Ishy to Morridin IIRC the Dark one kinda plucks their souls right when they die and shove them into a new body, so it isn't reincarnation like the rest of people experience, more like a necromancy or enchantment. Thus is all book stuff though so not sure how they might try to do it on show. I could it they just bring him as ishy still. -
In that situation it is also tactically sound to move together in order to protect each other, have ability to concentrate firepower (didn't happen) and gain distance from the other AS so you don't get bashed in the head with a staff. The walk was probably because they are just arrogant.

Who's confirmed again? Ishy Lanfear Moggy Grendal Sammael Who's left? Aginor . Doubt it Be'lal .doubt it Balthamel? Doubt it. Asmodean .possible to likely Rahvin. Possible to likely Semirhage. Possible Messana. Doubt it Demandred. Possible If there are only 3 to go, then I am guessing Asmodean, Rahvin, and Demandred.

@Wassup, I agree that the Aiel were not researched very much(or very well). I do mark that as a failure on the Aes Sedai part. You say they considered Manetheren to be the old blood so they needed to look into the even older cultures that still existed in the world. I'm not sure when the Karethon Cycle came about but i imagine they had hundreds of years to look into it, looking at you Browns. I think it would have been possible, even likely that some curious Brown disguises herself with some tinkers and goes into the waste to learn about the Aiel. Even if just for a search for knowledge. I may be off track here but I think with all the resources available to them they should have had a better picture of their world in general and things considered important like prophecy about the saviour/destroyer of the world. Good point about the 13th depository wall. I would lean ter'angreal or just rule of cool. Because it was cool looking.

As to the Sitters, I'm wondering how long it had been since they did those tests. I've never seen where any Aes Sedai undergoes ongoing training or recertification. Skills diminish over time. I trained to do things when I was younger. I doubt that I would be able to do them now even if my life defended on it.

I don't think we were discussing if it was wise to take all 3 ta'veren. It was if it should have been easy to decipher that the Dragon would be Aiel from the prophecy. The two lines in the prophecy were "from the ancient blood", and "born of a maiden wed to no man". Granted there seems to have been limited information gathering done on the Aiel (itself a failure of the tower) but through the breaking, the Aiel are one of few if not the only people that maintain the same location and structure and not intermingle much. Therefore they should have been a prime candidate for research. Doing that research would have quickly resulted in learning maidens of the spear are said to be wed to the spear and cannot wed without giving up the spear. The birth on dragonmount part didn't mean they had to be in combat, it could have been a random incident as fantasy book prophecy fulfillment frequently occurs that way.

See what you've done here is make allowances for the characters actions abilities or lack thereof. The prophecy doesn't come right out and say the Dragon will be an Aiel. It isn't the most difficult riddle to solve with the whole "maiden wedded to no man", and "of the ancient blood" lines. That's kind of a different discussion though. The Aiel have lived in one of the harshest environments on the planet for millennia and have adapted to it. Egwene has lived in a rural river village where she was a inn keeper's daughter and lived a pretty privileged life. After her adventures and a month in the waste she has adapted to the conditions as well as people who lived there all their lives. I don't think so, but it is Egwene so it is just a demonstration of her greatness. "Fake news", that's the explanation for why it is okay? Or it didn't really even happen like that. No one knows foe sure so sure but it is still making allowance for something you find unbelievable.

Speculation on episode 1 of season 3
Turin Turambar replied to Asmasur's topic in Wheel of Time TV Show
I don't mind if they "fast travel" to Tar Valon for the start of S3. Everyone has a reason to be with Rand. Tar Valon is on the way to the waste. Rand probably will want to see the girls safely to TarValon. I could see a bit of info dump in the tavern scene via dialogue. I expect Moraine will end up helping in the city fight against the BA. Possibly coming to Suian aid. One thing I very much would like to see out of that is the reactions of Tar Valon citizens/Tower guards to the Aiel. I think we may have some modern bias about Rand being able to be undetected in TV. They don't have television with his face plastered all over it(BREAKING NEWS-DRAGON PROCLAIMED IN FALME). In the show they don't even have the imagery of him battling the Dark One in the sky. Just a firey dragon on a tower with bunch of people standing on top. There are spies about looking for their general description but again, plot armour. -
So she was only "mostly dead"? Sorry, I couldn't helps myself. Seriously tho, the ending of Book 1 would be.pretty impossible to convert to film, especially in a TV show. So I don't hate Rands season 1 finale. The Fal Dara thing though, oh my. I have just chalked it up to COVID messing things up. I had hoped to see Rand do some real sword training at some point but that does take screen time. I did love the "Indiana Jonesing" of Turak though. It was funny, effective, and showed his growth as a chaneller.

Yes. I was gonna mention her deeleebobs o' magicfulness. I assume you mean 1000 Aes Sedai couldn't attack because damane or Asha'man could just fine. Aes Sedai could as well they would just have to "believe" they were in mortal danger. Which one could argue is a slippery slope, but an entire different conversation.

Is there any chance we get Morridin already? -
If I ain't playing mafia, I might as well "discuss" the show here. I think the BA not killing anyone while they were stunned was just because their priority was escape. I also don't think they were really out very long. Granted killing with the power should be quick and easy and they didn't exactly run out. I'm gonna go with...

Quality of Life Updates & Suggestions
Turin Turambar replied to SinisterDeath's topic in Forum Rules & Guides
I have what may be a silly question but I want to make sure I don't accidentally offend. I noticed the choices for reactions to posts. Is there an accepted code for what each one means? Primarily in reference to the fire sword and bela icons. I looks like everyone just uses like so maybe I'm being dumb. -
What Do You Most Want to See in S3?
Turin Turambar replied to DreadLord31's topic in Wheel of Time TV Show
Yeah. You're right about that. I was just spitballing with the idea of Couladin being more than Sevanna's big dumb puppet. Rand still needs to level up. -
Yes Egwene was the one who repelled the attack. So the Aes Sedai were so bad at warfare that they were overwhelmed in what was only supposed to be a raid by a force they knew existed and was hostile to them? I think your proving the point that the Aes Sedai were not skilled in combat nor strategically sound. It seems you think, or maybe want, them on par with the Asha'man in combat. They just weren't.
-
The prevailing wisdom of the time, even amongst "the wise" is that The Dark One and all the Forsaken are locked away behind the seals and will remain so. The Aes Sedai don't even know the seals are a physical thing despite the fact that one of the titles for their leader is "watcher of the seals". So I would say that they are not aware of the actual threat level. For them it is a problem for a future generation, like global warming. I think you have bias because as a reader, YOU know what is going on. The people in the story do not. They are muddling through the best they can.

What Do You Most Want to See in S3?
Turin Turambar replied to DreadLord31's topic in Wheel of Time TV Show
Why? It could go something like this. Spoilered because I don't know exactly what is a spoiler. One of the things that has bothered me in the show is how bad Rand is using the one power at this point. In the books he has done some things by this time. Not all of it worked exactly as planned but he has done some things. In the show not so much other than "Indiana Jonesing " that Seanchan guy, Turak. -
The general population of Randland doesn't even believe that trollocs are real. Members of the Black Ajah never imagined that they would be called to battle in their lifetimes. No one other than those in the borderlands pays much attention to the blight or to trollocs raiding. It's a "them" problem. How many things happening far from your home are you really paying attention to? Are you ready to go battle the Russians today? I'm not. How many of these Aes Sedai do you think have been in a real fight to the death? I would wager none other than the Blacks, infighting being a thing. Even the Greens were woefully unprepared for battle when . So yeah, the Aes Sedai aren't the justice league.
-
First, I'm not "people ". I never defended that scene. I think it was terrible but that is neither here nor there. The Sheinar lady was trained in the tower. Everyone in the tower is trained to do many things with the power including attacks. But how long ago, and how much ongoing training do they do? I was in the military, but it was decades ago. If while at work I was put into a situation that required me to use something I knew back then it would take me a while to perform the task and it would probably not be very well done. That is the average Aes Sedai. They primarily use the power for mundane tasks or little things that please them. Only the Reds, and Greens really train at all or use the skills needed in a fight. The Blacks also because they have a use for it. Actually, using something already there, like the power of a storm, is easier than creating and shaping air or fire from nothing. All she did was draw and concentrate the power already inherent in the storm and direct it in a general direction. That it was visual in a visual medium like TV makes sense as well. Would it have made more sense for this semi trained, under powered woman to be able to make hundreds of individual weaves to slice through the loads of trollocs attacking? I argue not.
-
She had an immense amount of power (hers, Nyn, Eggy, the other two) and spent a long time setting up one massive lightning blast to wipe them out. But they were nearly upon them by the time it set off. It looked like the trollocs had run miles from the gap to the city. That was an eternity in a battle. You talk about Moraine, do we ever see her do anything quickly? In the first episode she does the lightning thing that takes forever. At Faltme the fire attack takes a long time. Aes Sedai in the show aren't very battle proficient. Now Lanfear, she is a problem. Snapping heads and casually flipping fireballs at a moments notice. Something else I just thought about, I think they show Moraine and Lan at the beginning because they will make an appearance in one of the battles. Perhaps saving Siuan.

I disagree. 1. Meh, whatever it doesn't look like it was very long and seemed to just be part of setting the scene. 2. I think this is intended to be a mistake which helps to validate the 3. The Oath Rod needs to stay in the tower. Liandrin knows what she did. She knows she is guilty and trying to go along with the investigation will not work because if Nyn is there then most likely the other two wonder girls are as well. It would have been a disaster for the BA. The combined testimony of the 3 young stars of the tower probably backed by the Oath Rod. The fact that someone in authority signed them out of the tower. They couldn't risk a trial. They were forced to act. 4. No one carries weapons into the Hall. Not even belt knives. Pulling a hidden weapon takes time meaning surprise is unlikely. The BA got the jump on the others. Initiative is crucial. They were able to defend, do damage and escape. They would have been overwhelmed if the battle goes too long. A side note, there can't be too many Sitters killed as they are needed named characters going forward. The Reds being outside actually helped keep people alive by defending against the other 2 BA(I'm pretty sure Most of the people knocked about were not dead out there, just stunned).

Reasonable, but I think she was just enraged by the affront of the Black existing and attacking her sisters. Sometimes you just wanna beat down a darkfriend.
-
There are numerous other times that physical attacks have been effective against chanellers and turned the battle decisively. Not sure of the spoiler situation for some so not gonna give all the examples here.
