  1. Firstly, let me give this the official stamp of approval

secondly - I'm happy to sit this one out for now. However, if you have trouble finding an Aes Sedai to dole out some punishment let me know and I'll happily bring Pia in. Just remember she won't be punished lightly and probably won't sit well for a few days hehehe. Have fun!

  2. As Kate began answering Pia's question, the Mistress of Novices' pen flowed elegantly across the page, carefully filling in the name of the tower's newest novice. The pen flowed, that was, until a familiar name made Pia come to a complete halt. Silently she lifted her eyes from the page to study the girl. Cari Namere was not a name to be associated with lightly. Could it be? Pia frowned as the girl barely hesitated and ploughed right on. There was only one woman Pia knew of by that name - the woman who had slain numerous people under the very nose of the Tower, a darkfriend if ever there was one. She had died by her own hand, but knowledge that the woman had a child was disturbing. How could she, as the mistress of novices, allow spawn of that woman into the tower in good conscience? Impossible.

With great care, Pia closed the great tome. Her expression was impassive as she gazed at Kate. "I am sorry child. We cannot teach you."

  4. It was impossible for Pia to repress the swelling of pride that swamped her as she watched the newest Aes Sedai declare her oaths under the light. Pride as the Mistress of Novices, witnessing the successful completion of training by an initiate, and pride as a sister of the Gray Ajah. For today, there was little doubt in any mind where the woman would turn. The sisters of each ajah determine quite early on who will be suitable for their ranks, and who should be guided elsewhere. Esther Tremaine showed great promise for the Grays, and so she had been subtly assessed and steered towards them during her years as novice and accepted. Even as confident as she was in Esther's choice, there was a moment of expectation as Esther looked around the hall of women. There had been a few women known to have surprised everyone, including her choice of ajah, with her selection. When Esther's eyes met and held Pia's however, it became abundantly clear that this was the newest Gray sister. A smile broke over her face and she nodded acceptance, as the youngest Gray stepped forward and draped a shawl of Gray about Esther's shoulders.

As the shawl fluttered to rest, the other Aes Sedai present slowly filed out of the room, leaving Esther with her new sisters. "Be welcome to the Gray Ajah, Esther Sedai." Pia smiled and moved closer to give Esther a warm hug. The rest of the ajah also gave their welcome, some with smiles and others with barely a look in her direction. It mattered nought. What mattered most would come that evening, when Esther was put on trial and her mettle tested as part of a secret Gray Ajah tradition. It would be a surprise for the child - no, young woman, now - but Pia was sure she would prove herself.

"Go with Lavinya now, she will tell you what you need to know, until we all meet to welcome you officially into our midst." With a parting smile, Pia followed the other women draped in their silvery scarves and left Esther in the hands of the youngest.

Pia Tovisen, Gray Ajah & MoN

Had she looked so nervous when she faced this audience? Lavinya could scarcely believe it, though she had been filled with apprehension. All their young lives they were taught and trained for their final testing, but little was told of them of what actually came after the great ceremony of taking their oaths and officially selecting their ajah. Lavinya gave a cool smile to Esther as she slid forward and elegantly draped the shawl of an Aes Sedai about her shoulders. A Gray shawl. Her lips brushed Esther's cheek ever so fleetingly in a kiss before she rose and stepped back. "Be welcome to the Gray Ajah." Esther looked ridiculously relieved to Lavinya's eyes. Had she really expected refusal? That had never happened in her lifetime, and she had been to many such raisings as these, for all different ajahs. Filling the place of the youngest had irked her somewhat, given that technically she wasn't the youngest Gray, just of those currently in the Tower. At least it would give her the opportunity to speak with Esther and decide just how much she would like this new sister, before the trial.

Waiting patiently as the rest of the Ajah made their niceties, the fiery redhead soon moved in again to take charge of Esther. She smiled to herself as the new Gray fingered her shawl, as though almost disbelieving it was hers to own. "Come along. I will answer any and all of your questions as best I can." Looping her arm with Esther's, Lavinya swept her from the large chamber and towards the Gray Ajah apartments. "Your rooms are being readied for you, I will take you there in a little while." Steering her down a corridor and up a flight of stairs, Lavinya halted in front of her own apartments. "Tea, I think, and questions. You must have many." She smiled in a friendly way and led the way into the airy rooms, taking a seat in a stuffed chair piled with cushions and pouring steaming tea with an elegant hand. Naturally, the entire Ajah was prepared for Esther's decision today. She passed a delicate porcelain cup to Esther before pouring for herself and settling back into the comfort of the chair. "How does it feel? To finally wear the shawl?"

    Lavinya Morganen, Gray Ajah

    At long last!!

  5. Pia listened to Yovela's tirade with an impassive expression. What she wanted to do was hiss with irritation, but she did not allow any such thing to pass her lips. The girl had been brainwashed her entire life, it was hardly her fault she had such skewed views on Aes Sedai. Still, it was a frustrating dilemma. The girl could channel, of that there was no doubt, and the Tower did not release such girls until they had at least learned control. Pia opened the large Book of Novices that sat squarely on her desk and rifled through it in silence, using the time to regain her patience and allow Yovela a chance to calm her panic. Finding the most recent page, she smoothed it carefully then looked across at Yovela with a kindly but implacable expression.

"You need to understand a few things, Yovela," she began calmly, "We do not steal girls. What the the White Tower does, however, provide necessary training for those who can channel. You, Yovela, are one of those girls. Like it or not, you can channel. And having done so once, it will become easier and easier to do it again." Pia shook her head as Yovela opened her mouth, cutting off any protest to the contrary she was about to make. "You will be unable to help it, no matter how strong your resolve."

Pia tried to appear reassuring. "All we will do is teach you enough control so that you will not hurt yourself or anyone else. Once you are considered safe, you will be free to leave. I hope that you will also learn the truth behind your baseless prejudices, but I will settle for teaching you control. Now, please state your name, age and place of birth and we will see about training you. The sooner you learn, the sooner you can go, yes?"

    Pia Tovisen,

    Mistress of Novices

  6. Pia listened with quiet interest as each of the girls spoke in turn, filing away the useful tidbits for later. Perhaps she could make this class even more interesting for them, time always permitting. "Very well, let us begin." Hiking up her satin charcoal skirts a little, Pia withdrew a small basket from beneath her chair, containing several small figurines of different shapes and sizes. "First we will learn about using an angreal." Pointing to a girl at random, Pia asked, "tell me what an angreal is." She nodded as the girl blinked in alarm for a moment before correctly explaining the purpose of an angreal such as those resting in the basket at Pia's feet. "Very good," she praised. "Now, watch and listen closely. To use an angreal, I prepare to embrace saidar," Pia put words to action, selecting a small alabaster cat from the basket and holding it for the girls to see, "then I reach through the angreal to touch the source." Pia did so slowly, and repeated the action for all the girls to see. "Now, each of you select an angreal and practice this until you can do it the moment I ask you to. Remember we are not creating weaves with the angreal, just channeling saidar through it at this point. Go ahead."

Once Pia was satisfied that each girl had mastered the knack of angreals, she turned the lesson to another subject. "Next I will show you linking. A common technique of the Age of Legends, linking allows several flows to combine, thus increasing the overall strength and precision of the flow. A group that is linked is called a circle even when it is only two people. And so it is with us today. To link, you must first open yourself to Saidar. Embrace the Source, but hold yourself at the point of embracing, the brink of surrendering. This is usually simple to achieve with practice but many do tend to have trouble with it. If this is the case with you, not to worry, you can stay behind and practise with me." Pia smirked to herself at this, confident in the ability of the Accepted ranged before her. "Regalia, you shall start. Do as I say and hold yourself on the edge of surrender." She nodded to Regalia as she did so. “The woman in control of the link joins to bring the flow from you and join it to the whole. Just like using an angreal I embrace the Source through you.”

Pia opened herself to saidar through the Accepted and let all the girls observe that the glows around Aes Sedai and Accepted had merged when they linked. “It’s tiring to link but the benefits are great. There are stranger effects to being linked. A sense of closeness and feeling the emotions of other people in the circle as if they are your own. For Instance I can sense that you only had time for a quick breakfast and would not mind a bite more to eat.” Pia shot a wry smile at Regalia. “As you noticed, you can’t stop me channelling through you since your flows are controlled by me. Only the woman in control of the link can dissolve it. I must warn you that linking is awkward with most women at first. All the more reason to practise and practise!” Lavinya nodded and let go of the link and the glow of Saidar disappeared. "Now it’s your turn. Pair up!” The Gray Sister motioned to the girls and watched, giving helpful advise as they each practised linking. Once she was satisfied that each girl could link successfully with herself, Pia moved the lesson on.

"Now we move onto Shielding. Listen closely as this weave will most certainly come in handy even if you are not aspiring to the Red. Shielding prevents a channeller from touching the Source. I’m sure you can see already how this is both useful – and dangerous. Let me demonstrate.” Pia said and wove Spirit heavily on Amadine, pushing the Shield in place. “Try to channel,” Pia instructed, knowing it was impossible. “While I’m holding the shield it’s very difficult to break it. However, if I tie off the weave-“ Pia tied the weave, “you can break it more easily. With time and patience you can undo the knot that holds the weave and the shield will break. We do not have time to even begin teaching you that though, we must move on."

Pia allowed the shield to dissipate and continued the lesson. “It’s possible to shield someone who is already channelling, but it’s more difficult than to shield someone who isn’t holding saidar or saidin.” Pia paused for a moment, “Please embrace the Source, Amadine.” The accepted did so. She looked a bit nervous, anyone would after having felt the shield on her. Pia hated the feel of a shield on her, but she forced herself to endure the Shield every now and then, as part of her research. “I’m shielding you now,” Pia wove calmly and carefully and a sheer wall slid between the Accepted and the Source. “Did you see that?” Piaa asked, repeating until each of the Accepted were nodding before quickly dropping the shield. “I know it is awful, but you can have your revenge now, Amadine. I want you to pair up again and practice shielding each other, both while she is channeling and when she is not."

Satisfied with their progress, Pia clapped her hands to regain the attention of her class. "You are doing very well girls, I just have one final weave to teach you for today. This next weave is called Sleep. A newly rediscovered weave and not one that you’ll be familiar with. It’s simple enough; I draw out several thick threads of Spirit, and lay them on my victim.” Pia pulled out a small cage holding a tiny white mouse. She deftly wove the threads around the mouse, making sure to cover it’s head entirely. The mouse slumped to the floor of the cage. Pia had not wanted to use the weave on one of the girls as when falling asleep she might have missed some crucal part of the making. Pia let the weave go. The mouse kept on sleeping. Pia opened the age and poked the creature. It opened it’s eyes and made for the exit. Pia closed the latch again and the mouse was left caged. “The target of the weave doesn’t stop sleeping as soon as you let the weave go; you’ve put the victim to sleep and they’ll stay there until she wakes up of her own accord, or something happens. Practise this weave on the mouse and don’t worry, it wont be harmed by this practise.” Passing the cage to Kathleen, she asked her to begin.

At long last Pia was satisfied with the progress of each of the girls, and she beamed proudly at them. "You should be pleased with yourselves, you are all doing very well. That is enough for today. In fact, I suggest no more channeling today if you can help it, you need to rest and recuperate your strength. Practice what you have learnt today and we shall meet again the same time next week. Dismissed!"

  7. Having beckoned the girl into her office, Pia gazed on Kate with a kind smile, motioning to her to rise from her curtsey and take a seat before the large mahogany desk that dominated the space in her office. "Of course child, but before I do, please be aware that few are found with the ability. I do not want you to get your hopes high prematurely." From inside a drawer Pia withdrew a smoky crystal, rounded and smoothed into an oval that rested neatly in her palm. "The testing is a simple process," she said as she rounded the desk to kneel by Kate's chair. "Don't fret and simply do as I say and we shall soon see, hmm?"

Holding the small gem aloft, Pia instructed Kate to look at it. "That is all I need you to do. Concentrate on the stone. Forget about everything, empty your thoughts and focus on the stone." Her voice continued to drone, steady and soft, while her eyes watched closely for even the briefest flicker of light, her senses attuned to the flow of saidar. She did not have to wait long, as a bright light illuminated the gem from the inside, causing Pia to blink in surprise. It came so quick, so easy, that Pia was forced to wonder if the girl had inadvertently channeled before this moment.

In silence she rose and returned the gem to her desk. "I have no doubt at all that you can channel, child." Pia studied Kate closely, a hint of a smile ghosting her lips, and reached for the giant tome that was the book of Novices. "Yes, you will stay and learn. Your name, age, and place of birth, if you don't mind." Pen poised to write, Pia waited for the girl to dictate, her mind already pondering the puzzle the girl had presented. A wilder, perhaps? It was not all too uncommon, but that presented problems in itself. No doubt the girl had also created for herself a block, too. Ahh, but that was an obstacle to jump if it presented itself, not yet.

    Pia Tovisen,

    Mistress of Novices

  8. Countless times Pia Tovisen had glanced at the sun already, and before the day had ended, countless more times would be added to that. She sighed softly, and inclined her head a little, fighting a sudden urge of weariness. The Mistress of Novices stifled a yawn, and turned her attention on the book of Novices again. Everything was recorded in there, after all. Everything that mattered at least. Last night another Accepted had ventured into the rings, and passed through them free of everything she had been before she became who she was now. In her fine handwriting Pia made a note of the raising in the book of Novices. Today the girl would choose her Ajah, and her fate would become truly entwined with that of the Tower. Her choice was no secret to Pia, the way very little that happened among the novices and accepted of the White Tower was a secret to her.

She closed the big book after she was done. The book looked a little old, but the preservation wards that were set on it worked well. It seemed as though it would never get full. Pia had once paged through it, and found her own name, as well as that of the Mistress of Novices before her. It was interesting to learn how long some of her sisters had been here, and how long they had taken to get themselves raised. Wistfully Pia peered at the sun again, only to find that it hadn’t moved a bit. The day was still young, and she would be tired and aching by the time it was done. Not that the work of the Mistress of Novices ever truly ended. There were wards on the door to the office that told her people were waiting in front of it. The wards would wake her, even if someone tried to sneak in when the night was at it’s darkest.

Just as she thought of the wards, a tingling sensation crept over her skin, telling her that someone was about to knock on her door. Soon enough the sound of knocking followed. The sound of a knock often told her a lot about who wished to enter. This was the hesitant knock of someome who came to her with a request. Pia took a moment to school her expression into something a little less depressing than the look of fatigue she had had. “Enter.” She said, her voice calm and low as usual. The door opened as she channelled a thread of air to it. To whomever entered it might seem as magic. The young woman was dressed in clothing that suggested she was not of the Tower. Yet. Things might change soon. “My name is Pia Sedai. I am the Mistress of Novices at the White Tower. How may I help you?”

    3) RP plans / ideas

I am cooking up a talent RP with a BT boy who has the same shielding talent as Lavinya. Also in the works is the Ajah head RP for Pia. Lavinya also has plenty of plans for RPs with Corin (OOC promised). Still want to do a Gray Ajah class but alas, time!

    4) Interaction with N&A

Obviously Pia does plenty. Gray ajah class would be a good one too. I'm pondering a way to take the 'kids' on a field trip into Tar Valon for some negotiating and bartering.

    5) Problems, ideas, etc

Lack of Grays! There were a bunch of aspirants who have dropped off the planet, I'd like to put the Grays out there as a great potential ajah.

  11. Weary didn't begin to describe Lavinya's state of exhaustion when she pushed through the door to her room. Lack of sleep was something she had dealt with for months now, but with the added physical exhaustion Corin had inflicted on her during his instructions that day she was weak-limbed and in serious need of sleep. It wasn't all bad though, she decided. Training with weapons had given back some measure of her severely bruised confidence, even if she was still rather hopeless. She wouldn't always be, not if Corin had his way. She had to admit he was a good teacher, if incredibly distracting. How was she supposed to focus on shooting an arrow at a target when her gaze kept wandering his direction? With extreme determination, she reaffirmed. It was past time to stop being haunted by the horrors of her past and take some control back. And Corin was assisting her. Willingly. Wonders would never cease.

Still extremely vain despite her tiredness, Lavinya had luxuriated in a wonderfully hot bath before finally allowing herself to think of a nap. There was still an hour or two of daylight left, so at least her demons that lurked in the dark would be held at bay. Never so grateful to sink onto such a lumpy mattress, Lavinya was soon in the blissful cocoon of deep sleep, too exhausted to even dream for once. It seemed only a moment, but some time must have passed as she reluctantly clawed her way back from the depths of slumber, noting the lengthening shadows and wondering just what had woken her. She sat up then heard the sound again, the not so gentle pounding on her door. Light, if that was Corin preparing himself to barge into her room and rescue her from some imagined threat again she would thump him. She was scowling when she opened the door, but it was not the face of Corin that met her but one of the Red Guards, hand raised to knock again.

"Yes?" She asked coolly. "I have a note for you milady. From your maid." That got her attention, and she snatched the note from him and broke the seal with one freshly chipped fingernail. Saline. Light, the absent minded woman had left yesterday in search of her informant and Lavinya had barely given her a second thought! Bloody Corin and his distractions, she thought, as she scanned the obviously hastily penned note. Well now, this certainly changed things.

    Mistress Lavinya,

I have received news of your beloved, and I am afraid it is not that which we would have hoped to hear. No doubt you will wish to return home with your brother and nurse your broken heart in peace. I will journey on and convey your sincere regrets to your former betrothed on your behalf to spare you the pain of meeting with him after this unfortunate turn of events. I believe it best to do so alone.

    Kindest regards,

    S.

"And what of Captain Mitya?" She asked, refolding the note. "He has already given the order to accompany your maid, my lady." Lavinya nodded, satisfied. "Be sure you do. Convey your captain a message for me. Keep her safe or there will be severe repercussions. Understood?" The man nodded solemnly and she dismissed him to make ready to depart with the rest of the guard. Lavinya had no doubt they would serve Saline well in her quest. Poor soul. It was hard not to feel sympathy for the Red, knowing she must face an almost certain heartbreak. One she herself had been forced to face at one time, when she had given up Corin for dead. She understood the need to be alone, not matter how good Lavinya's intentions were - she would just be intruding. She would respect Saline's decision and allow her room for her grief, and pray to the light she would not befall any harm. It did mean, however, that Lavinya was now stranded in the middle of nowhere with her favourite surly tower guard. Would it bode well or ill? Impossible to guess.

It was not too much later that Lavinya presented herself to the small private dining room the inkeeper had graciously provided so that the lady Lavinya did not have to associate herself with the rabble in the common room. Corin - her dutiful brother - awaited her. How would he react to learn their mysterious mission was at an end? To learn that they were now on their own, with nobody to act as a buffer to their combustible tempers? That he was now her sole protection? Preparing herself for she did not quite know what, she swept into the room and took a seat across the table from Corin, after greeting him with sisterly affection for the sake of the young maid hovering by the door. They made quick work of ordering food and drink, before sending the girl off to convey their instructions to the cook. Once the door closed behind the slip of a girl, Lavinya wordlessly handed Corin the note, studying him openly as he read the brief missive.

  12. Sincerest apologies, but sometimes even the poor little MoN gets sick and doesn't even look at her computer for a few days. I know you've been waiting and I do apologise, but sometimes there are outside influences that prevent me from posting even when I have the best of intentions to do so. If someone else is willing to teach you then by all means they can take over, otherwise I will have your post up as soon as I possibly can.

  13. I never used to be a sitter (most unsuitable character for a sitter ever lol) so don't remember much about Gray Ajah politics except that they were allied with the Reds over the going to the BT issue. Not sure how it would have played out after the debacle, especially given that the Gray amyrlin didn't last long (even though she did all the early negotiations.) I can see them still being in accord with the Reds. So by nature I suppose against the Blues, but probably also friendly with Whites and ambivalent with the rest. The Grays strike me as most likely to change depending on the situation, going with their own opinions over alliances.

  14. Ummm...when did romantic relationships need DL approval? As in, when did this ruling come about? It was never ever a rule before when I was on DM. If it was changed in my absence no worries, but was it ever announced? If so, we shouldn't take it for granted that everyone knows this. I certainly didn't. It was always spelled out on the WT site that it wasn't common practice for Aes Sedai, that essentially saidar is more addictive than sex anyway, and that they belong to the tower and must put if first etc etc, but it was never ruled out as something you must have permission for first.

The only rules on the warder site basically says you can't have relationships that are unbalanced - ie trainee + guard, trainee + Aes Sedai, guard and novice etc - wait until you are both raised.

SO...I know this is slightly off topic but since I saw it it makes sense to clear it up. If it is a rule that you need DL approval, you'd also need to mention that to the warders and have all the rules match up. Same for the BT now I suppose. See where this is going? :)
