  1. Personally I think the Ajahs should have the flexibility to determine their own traditions etc. I wouldn't be inclined to make anything mandatory (we have reqs enough to get to Aes Sedai!), but strongly encouraged as great character building rps and ajah bonding. But don't take that as gospel, the boss lady will steer us both straight I'm sure! :D

  2. Rochel was clearly irritated at being browbeaten, and her reply was all that was disgruntled and rebellious. Pia couldn't resist; she let out a short bark of laughter. No doubt any other Aes Sedai would have whipped the Accepted until she couldn't sit for a week, but Pia did not believe in corporal punishment with her initiated unless strictly necessary, especially with Accepted. They should be able to discuss rationally and understand the error of their ways without the need for a humiliating spanking.

"Serves me right for wording the request so, I suppose," she said with a rueful smile. "You should know by now my patience is longer than that, Rochel." Pia tilted her head to the side and contemplated the scowling girl. "Why is it you find it so hard to simply accept that which you're told? Do you believe I would deliberately mislead you, child?" Rochel shook her head, no. "I did not imagine you had any aspirations towards the White Ajah, but your determination to rationalise and demand a logical reason for doing what you must is starting to make me wonder."

"Another reason, if you please. And while you're at it you can clean that puddle. In fact, I want you to use one of the weaves you have learned today to do so, modifying it as needed." When Rochel didn't leap at the task straight away, Pia encouraged her. "Go on, I will ensure you don't make too much further mess. And don't forget to answer the question."

  3. Paperwork may be mundane to most, but Pia found it relaxing. There was something to be said about neat, ordered files. Completed and thorough, no detail overlooked. Many other Aes Sedai in the tower had secretaries to perform such tasks, but Pia would let no one else touch her precious records. No one else managed to do it quite right, much to her ire. It was far easier to do it herself and take an hour or two away from tearful or rebellious novices. The soothing scratch of quill over parchment was interrupted, however, by a resounding knock upon her door. Loosing a sigh of weary resignation, Pia set down her quill.

    "Enter."

Her dark eyes were fixed upon the door as Accepted Eslai entered with a sullen looking girl in tow. Pia listened in silence as she spoke, idly shuffling her papers into perfect alignment and squaring them exactly against the edge of her desk. Her brows rose at the sudden outburst from the young girl though, and her hands stilled. Interesting. Pia studied the girl and curtly dismissed Eslai, not even bothering to look as she dropped an elegant curtsey and departed. Alone with the young girl, Pia smiled kindly.

"Please child, sit." Pia waved her to a chair as she herself rose and set about making tea, efficiently weaving fire to heat water to boiling. When she was done, she set a delicate blue cup of steaming mint tea before the girl and took her own chair behind the desk. "It sounds as though you haven't had the best of journeys. Drink and tell me all that happened. We can deal with testing later." She smiled encouragingly and took a careful sip of her own tea.

  4. It was not easy being the mistress of novices. The workload was sizeable, the responsibility larger. Pia was feared and respected alike, and too some was a second mother of sorts, which to Pia made it worth the sacrifice. She took great joy in watching the initiates learn and flourish, was warm and caring whenever possible. One great downfall however, was the need to discipline. She took no pleasure in the necessity, and the current encounter was one of those times. Galin had so much potential, yet the tower had no room for bratty Aes Sedai. Thus, it was her duty to see those who were unruly novices chastised in the hope they would learn their mistake and move on. If only Galin would curb her tongue, these meetings could be avoided.

Whap! The birch whistled softly through the air before landing on the poor girl's already reddened backside, resulting in a following yelp and further tears from the squirming bundle of white bent over the desk. Whap! Pia's face was impassive as she dealt the blows, inside regretting the need for such treatment yet outside full of authority and impersonal regard. Having dealt the last blow, the always ordered mistress of novices lowered the birch and pulled down Galin's skirts, bidding her to rise. "I trust you have learned your lesson this time, child." She said sternly but not unkindly, pressing a handkerchief into the sniffling girl's hand. "I grow weary of punishing you for your continued insolence to your teachers. If I find you in my office again for yet the same offence, your punishment will double until you learn. Now go. You are excused from your class this afternoon so that you may contemplate in solitude what we have discussed today."

Pia dismissed the girl with a nod, only moments before a knock sounded on her door. Light, let it not be another naughty child! The door swung open as Galin awkwardly scurried out, leaving an Accepted and a wide eyed girl in her wake. Thankfully this did not appear to be yet another visit for penance, given that Pia did not recognise the girl in the careworn gown. Perhaps not a bad appointment after all. Dismissing the Accepted, waved the girl into her office with a smile, closing the door behind her and finally placing the birch away in a cupboard. She seated herself across the desk and neatly twined her fingers on the immaculate surface. Nothing was ever out of place or so much as crooked in Pia Sedai's office. "My name is Pia Tovisen, and I am the Mistress of Novices. How may I help you today, child?"

  5. Perine is obviously still around, though I'm very sure she killed off her red character by the same name. Muirenn was stilled during watchers and I think became a freelander. Telcia and Leona are long dead (i think?) characters, or at least were abandoned for new ones back when it was one char per div. I haven't heard of the others, so either they are super old or came about in my absence between 2007-early 2009. Hope that helps! :)

  6. Lavinya is always lurking and watching her little minions plot mischief ;)

Plan away, chickadees! If I have any serious issues with your ideas I'll give you a gentle prod, don't worry. I'm not a total ogre...not unless you touch my cookies or your name is Regalia  :-*

Just remember, in character breaking of the rules means in character punishments. Which is fun for everyone. Especially me. *ahem*. If you get up to mischief I or whoever catches you will come up with an awesome punishment for you, or they'll send you to me anyway...lol. Just let me know if/when you need me, and be assured if no one else finds you, either Pia or Lavinya will ;)

Most of all - Have fun!! Being a novice is a blast! :D

oh...and seriously considering throwing my novice in to play with you girls once I get a spare second ;)

  7. Only a guard...was that all he would ever be? He should be a warder, her warder, bonded more intimately than man and wife, sharing her emotions and living a life filled with love and happiness and the beauty of their child. Was it possible? Were they forever doomed to be no more than oath sworn Tower Guard and aloof Aes Sedai, awkward and strained? Lavinya did not like to think so, all the more after the night's events. Somehow she had to show Corin that he was worthy - more than worthy - to be her gaidin. That she still wanted that, despite everything and anything. That any other man she even fleetingly considered came up glaring short when compared to him. Perhaps if he thought she was dependent on him? But that was not how she wanted it, him obliging her out of a sense of duty. So many unknowns! Lavinya could agonise over them for hours and still be none the wiser. Still, it was something to note that he was not preparing to abandon her any time soon.

As she listened to him speak, Lavinya followed with her eyes as he pointed, taking in the array of weaponry, silently registering the seriousness of his tone. That he would perform his role as teacher wholeheartedly she did not doubt; she was wise to agree to this training. No one else would understand as he did, even if he was confused by her dreams. She turned her gaze back as a small blade slipped into his hand, a sleight of hand worthy of any esteemed gleeman, but as he gave his oath she met his emerald gaze and felt a pang of anguish at the thought of his leaving. So horrifying was the thought, she quashed any rebellious thoughts of harsh rebuttal for overstepping his authority and nodded her ascent. If she had to tap dance naked on the common room table she would do it, if it meant he would stay by her side, where he belonged. The moment seemed to stretch on for hours, his eyes meeting hers openly, and she know he meant every word. The tension broke at last as the blade disappeared, and Lavinya found herself releasing a breath she did not even realise she held.

"I don't know if it will disgust you or please you to know that I am almost totally ignorant in the ways of fighting," she admitted ruefully, "beyond very basic concepts. I do know, for example, that the pointy end of the blade goes in the other person and not me, if at all possible. And how to shoot a bow, though I'm afraid it's been many years since I last tried." Lavinya shrugged and surveyed the tools of war once more, not even recognising several and wondering at their use. "The only time I have ever managed to wound someone with a blade I was lucky enough to embed it in his thigh, and light knows I suffered for it." Lavinya shuddered slightly at the memory as though to shake it off, not wishing to think on it any more than necessary. That had only been the first night with Linten, and she had never gotten so close to causing damage again. She turned back to Corin. "So other than that, I'm afraid you have a complete novice on your hands, dear brother." The grin she gave him was half rueful, half playful. After all, they still had an act to uphold, and she was the loving, teasing sister. That there was an extra sparkle in her eye whenever she looked upon him was irrelevant - hopefully most people took it as a sign of great fondness for her brother and not a wholly unsisterly love. Suddenly her grin turned impish. "I do hope you're finally going to teach me how to best you in a wrestle, regardless how unladylike it may be."

  8. Pia comforted the whippet of a novice seated in front of her as best she could. Her position as overseer of the White Tower initiates meant she more often handed out correction and punishments, yet there were times when she also offered a shoulder to cry on, for those in need. It was disconcerting at times, Pia herself had never been one prone to tears or 'female' outbursts of emotion, yet to some of these girls, she was the closest thing they now had to a mother.

Offering the sniffling girl a handkerchief from her pocket, Pia patted the girl's back lightly, from where she was kneeling in front of her. "There now child, dry your tears." She said softly, soothingly. The girl nodded, dabbing at her moist cheeks. She had been in the office now for some time, crying with homesickness, though now at least it seemed she was feeling better, her sobs subsiding. Pia could hardly recall the words she had spoken to soothe her, but they seemed to work as the girl mustered a shaky smile.

"Thankyou, Aes Sedai." The girl managed as Pia stood, awarding her with a smile as a tingling sensation passed over her, a sure sign that one of her wards had been set off. As if on cue a knock sounded on the door. "Off with you now girl." Said Pia gently, leading her to the door. Opening it, the novice dropped a curtsey and scurried past, leaving a bemused looking girl and a rather irritated looking Aes Sedai in her wake. Not clothed as an initiate, the new girl had the appearance of an outsider, a petitioner perhaps.

Pia smiled at the girl in welcome and waved her into her office, waiting by the door and raising her brows enquiringly at Eloise Sedai. "She was looking for my mistress, apparantly," the cool white said with a sneer, nodding towards where the girl was peering at a tapestry adorning one wall. "Clearly a wilder. Naturally I brought her to you. I wish you luck getting past her tongue." Pia calmly stared at the young sister, a silent reminded that Pia was above her in ranking, and also an Illianer, born with a way of speaking that grated on most. Abashed, the white nodded her head demurely and stalked away. Closing the door behind her with a soft click, Pia turned to face her newest challenge.

"My name is Pia Tovisen, Mistress of Novices." Toned Pia, waving the girl into a wooden chair before her immaculate desk. "How can I help you?" Taking her own seat, Pia gazed expectantly at the newcomer.

  9. Finally the book was closed again. Pia took a moment to write down the name of another novice on a piece of parchment, as well as a summons. The girl she had selected would be with them soon enough. After she handed the note to a servant that passed in the hallway joined with her office, she returned to the new Novice. With a smile she walked over to one of the many cabinets. She pulled two novice dresses from the cabinet, and handed them to the girl. “These are yours to wear during the years you are a novice. You must tend to them well, mend them when they’re torn, wash them when they’re dirty. For the next years, you will not be allowed to wear anything apart from these dresses.”

She settled behind her desk again, telling the young woman in front of her a little about the rules novices lived by. She went from the curfew to the restriction on venturing into Tar Valon, to the repercussions that would follow if she chose to venture into the yards without a good reason. “But you look like a sensible young woman, so I’m sure I won’t see too much of you here.” A knock on her door told her that the mentor of the girl had arrived. “Enter.” The initiate revealed herself to Pia and Amadine. “I trust that you’ll tell her all she needs to know.” Pia said. Her tone was dismissive. She glanced at the sun, and notice that it had shifted slightly. A while had passed since the young woman had entered her office. A while, but there was still a lot of time left. As the pair left her office she sighed, wondering if this day would end any time soon.

OOC: Technically you've finished the req, but if you want to continue to rp with another novice being shown around or as your roomie or whatever feel free! :)

  11. Inwardly cursing herself for her insensitivity, Pia fished a clean linen handkerchief from her belt pouch and rounded the desk to embrace the sobbing girl. The poor child finally learned of the truth concerning her mother, and she rewards her with another shocking discovery. Pressing the square of linen into Maryam's hand she tried to offer what comfort she could, hugging her and murmuring soothing words into her hair, ignoring the growing dampness on her shoulder. "Do no be apologising child, you do be allowed to grieve," Pia said gently, slipping back into her native Illianer accent, a sign that she herself was somewhat overset. She knew the child's pain, still felt it as though it were only yesterday her own dear sister had failed to emerge from the ter'angreal.

"What a girl sees in the arches is known only to her, but I will tell you what I believe," Pia said as Maryam's tears lessened and the tremors began to still. "The third arch is for what will be. It is not always easy to separate reality from what is seen therein, but I believe your mother and others found a life so wonderful, so happy, that they are unwilling to leave it. Perhaps she was the grandmother to your children there, or maybe she ruled as a queen. Who can say? It is hard for those who are left behind to bear, but at least there may be some comfort in knowing your mother is alive and happy somewhere. Just sadly no longer with us." Pia's face was filled with kindness and she patted Maryam's arm in a motherly way, giving her a gentle smile.

"I am sorry I wasn't more sensitive in giving you this news Maryam; do not feel you can not express your sorrow." A gentle hand brushed the hair back from the somewhat more composed girl's face and then Pia rose, gathering a small polished gem from a desk drawer and returning to kneel beside Maryam's chair. "Remember her fondly, and live your life. A life she never had to live. Let me show you something," she said, holding the deep green gem up so Maryam could see it. "Concentrate on the stone. Clear your thoughts of everything but the stone..." Pia continued to drone soothingly, watching and waiting as Maryam did as she was bid, eyes focused on the small stone, until suddenly a bright light sparked within it, gone as quickly as it came.

"You saw it, yes? Well I also felt it. This tells me you can learn to channel, just like your mother."

(it has been a long time since either rped their gray that it's ridiculously hard to find exactly when)

    3) RP plans / ideas

~I honestly don't have any ajah wide rp ideas at the moment, because it's just been me myself and I rping as grays. However, with Esther's raising I'd love to rp her acceptance into the ajah (and I will as soon as I have a spare minute)

~ Still have a new gray ajah class in the pipeline

    4) Interaction with N&A (remember that recruitment idea we discussed in another thread)

    ~ Gray Ajah Class

~ I plan to take up Lor's idea and post a thread for the Grays...I'll give it a week or two so as not to overwhelm :)

~ My Aes Sedai Lavinya is a real piece of work - I plan to offer some interesting chores for interested participants ;)

    5) Problems, ideas, etc

~ Real problem with activity - Hopefully that will improve with a new gray (Esther) to interact with and help fuel ideas. I really need to brainstorm a good way to recruit from the myriad of novices we currently have

~ I'd really like some feedback on sitters. Currently we have no sitters. Pia is head, but is also MoN, so I don't want the added burden for her as sitter. And my other sister is not sitter material at all, and I don't want her tied to the tower. So...ideas? I could NSW a current gray sitter as needed from one of the many NPCs, but that's one. I don't have a spare character slot for a new PC. I've never loved the idea of people who don't have a grey playing as our sitters but I think I'm left with no other option, unless there are Accepteds who are going gray. Help!

~ What's the status with the Ajah Head rp? Anyone still keen on that? It would be nice to come up with some multi-ajah rps and get people playing again, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot going on at the moment other than all the novices flooding us :)

  13. Pia eyed the flustered young girl with a fair amount of amusement, which she wisely hid behind her patented Aes Sedai calm. It would not do for the mistress of novices to be seen taking joy in her new intiates' misfortune. She silently surveyed the girl, thinking of the word sent ahead by Pranatarakapasaya regarding her newest find. Blast that woman for her ridiculous name, any one with common sense would adopt a shorter nickname, but the woman was dogged.

"I have been expecting your arrival, Regalia. Word of your ability to channel arrived some time before you did." Pia rapped her fingers lightly on the pristine polished desktop. "I have also heard of your...exploits." The slight emphasis on the last seemed to have its desired effect as Regalia's flush deepened somewhat. Pia at last allowed a smile to brighten her face. Squarely placed atop her desk was a giant tome, ancient yet tended with reverent care. A weave kept it in such immaculate condition, though looking at the severely ordered nature of Pia's office, it was a wonder it didn't maintain it's condition of it's own accord, in fear of its mistress. Pia drew the heavy book towards her and opened it with care, flipping through the pages until she arrived at the most recent entry. Every novice of the tower was recorded in this book, from herself some two hundred years ago to the previous mistress of novices and beyond. It was rich in history, and Pia loved it so.

"As you have been found with the ability to channel, you will become a novice today. Officially." Pen and ink were produced with a flourish, and Pia levelled her dark eyed gaze on the whippet of a girl before her. "Please state for the record once more your full name, age, and place of birth." The pen nib scratched softly across the parchment, Pia's handwriting neat and precise like everything else about her. Not even a strand of hair dared escape it's confines in the bun at her nape. When Regalia had finished speaking, she signed her own name and dated the entry, before setting about the task of drying the ink and reweaving the keeping upon the book. This, she placed into the drawer of her desk, designed specifically for its keeping.

"Welcome to the White Tower, novice Regalia."

  14. Sorry Knytiri, but I think this class is really only an Accepted level type class. I'm sure you novices can harass Lor once you're raised to teach it again for you ;)

I've given the initial ok for this class to go ahead, Once Lor gives me a rough outline I'll give it the official stamp and you can all post and make merry!
