  1. Well, I was going to point you in the direction of your character's listing, but it's not there either!  I checked my own email, and they're also not there.  I asked the bio checker to send them to me, because I had a similar problem with another character.

I think I don't have them, because you came in right after I had been promoted to MoN.  :P

  2. Looks good, you guys!  If you want, you can just take over Penelia's role when she assigns Ellisha as the mentor, but let's call it a 'guide', because Aes Sedai or Accepted would be more of the mentor type.  She's one of those toss-away NPC-type characters, so I don't really mind.

  3. I'm conferring with Kathleen about the arrival thread before I give my decision on it.  You still need to post once or twice more on it for it to count as a req.

And, yes, you may use those threads.  :)  I've been thinking about making another new course using one of my Aes Sedai unless someone else posts one as Accepted.

  4. Oops!  Look like you didn't make a req thread.  That's okay, though.  Just follow the instructions here.  If you have any questions, let me know.  :)

It looks like you did finish your Meet the MoN requirement, though.  So, you have 2 choice rps and the Intro to Saidar course left to do.  Unless you already did the Saidar course, and I just don't remember.

Back to being kind of quiet again, but like I said, January was a tough month for me.  :/

  6. Valeri couldn't help but feel a surge of pride as she watched Ellisha calm herself down.  It was good to see the Tower's training work on someone with a spirit as fiery as hers, and in a situation as desperate as this.  Ellisha probably still felt those nerves, anger, and anxiety, but she kept them down and calmly spoke with the Mistress of Novices.  Valeri changed her own demeanor to be comforting as she walked forward and put a gentle hand on her tense shoulder.  "I understand.  You worry for your friend.  I promise we will do everything we can to bring her back safe," she said sincerely.

"But, right now, you need to take some time to rest and pull yourself together.  I know Accepted have a tighter schedule than novices, but try not to stress yourself so much with this.  I know you two are close, but you must care and think for yourself as well."  As she spoke, she gently turned Ellisha back toward the door.  She opened it let her hand fall from the girl's shoulder.  "I expect you not to bolster any rumors and stick to your studies.  Have a good night, Ellisha."

  7. Valeri whipped her head around when she heard her door slam open.  It was very early in the morning, and she normally had this time of the day to do whatever she wished.  She had just fixed herself a cup of tea, and had finished her breakfast.  Before her stood an Accepted, walking stick held in the air.  Ellisha had a frenzied look about her.  Her icy voice didn't help to make it seem as though she were stable as she spoke.  Valeri's eyes widened with a cold rage as she began to speak about the Black Ajah, and how they had taken her friend.  Valeri slammed the door shut and slammed a ward against eavesdropping down.  Ellisha had been in the White Tower long enough to know that the Black Ajah was just a myth.

Beyond that, she did let Valeri know that Aril was out of the Tower, and that she needed to be found.  "Child, calm yourself," she said evenly.  "You know very well that the Black Ajah does not exist.  The White Tower will use every source available to find Aril and bring her back."  She lifted the ward, letting Ellisha know that the subject of the Black Ajah would be dropped now, and as an Accepted, it was her duty not to propagate the matter further.  "Runaways must be punished when they return, but it will not last forever.  If you have any information as to where she is, I will be glad to use it in finding her.  Otherwise, do not mention that again, and get back to your studies.  The White Tower will find her with our own resources and our own time."

Leala discovers her Talent for Dreamwalking

    3) Problems, ideas, etc

Well, I finally got Leala to do a couple of things!  She's popped up in a Meet-the-MoN thread, and I'm having her do a few experiments in her first trip to tel'aranrhiod.  I've also got some interest to have her be a mentor for a Theodora.  Annnnd, I have an outline for a White Ajah Class in the works.

  9. I want to get a White Ajah Class going, like the Blues and the Yellows have.  I don't see any information on traditions anywhere, so I'm assuming I can make some of them up, if that's okay?  >.>

    Post 1:  Introduction

    • Start the lesson off by asking everyone why they think the White Ajah is in the White Tower.  Make sure that they understand that you are not asking what the mission is.  In this assignment, there will be a challenge:  do not use the word "logic."
    • Once ideas are presented, explain why the White Ajah is there.  They are there for the progression of ideas, they keep their heads in crisis situations, they search for answers others would not.
    • Clear up some misconceptions.  The White Ajah does not strive to be cold and off-putting.  That is just the way they must be in order to find the truth they seek.  The Whites, much like every other Aes Sedai, are human and do have feelings.  Their Ajah color is not a reflection of the novice dresses or the White Tower.  It is symbolic for the pure truth and logic that they value so much.  The White Ajah values not only education, but intelligence, in order to make the world a brighter place.

Homework:  Write a short essay (no minimum word count) on why they themselves, as Accepted, are in the White Tower.  As a challenge, they cannot say in any way that they are there to become Aes Sedai.

    Post 2:  Traditions

    • Bring to class a small sheet of white silk, and a small leather notebook.  Have the students pass around both items and decipher what it is that makes them special.  Mention somewhere in the narrative that the piece of white silk has the Flame of Tar Valon sewn into it, but it's not immediately visible, because the Flame isn't embroidered or painted on: the thread of the silk is facing a different way from the rest of the thread, and can only be seen at the right angle in the light.  The notebook has cryptic writing in it that seems mundane: it seems to be a dream journal, but it's actually code.
    • When someone figures out what's different about the silk, confirm that they are correct, but their answer is not complete.  There may be some guesses about the notebook, but keep guesses open for a moment.  If no one guesses correctly, or someone does guess, explain their purposes.
    • Aes Sedai of the White Ajah are given the white silk upon entering the Ajah.  This is used to communicate with contacts and other sisters.  It can announce your presence to anyone from the White Tower if they care to look at it in the right light.  The notebook is another tradition.  Each notebook has a white Flame of Tar Valon on the inside of the back cover.  It is used to create and maintain a sister's code.  However, each sister has three of these, and two of them are not her code.

    Homework:  None today.

    Post 3:  Philosophy

    • Explain what philosophy is in your own words.  Guidelines:  Philosophies are mental constructs that help guide us to the truth.
    • Give some of your own philosophies and how they have helped you out of different dilemmas.
    • Explain that there are all kinds of different philosophies for all kinds of different things.  Choose one subject (the Wheel, Saidar, something you can latch on to easily) and give your philosophy on that, and expand on it with examples.  Use symbollism, make it your own.  Philosophy is a broad subject, so the best way to handle it is to be as specific as possible.

Homework:  Write out your philosophy on Saidar and its use.  As Accepted, they have worked with Saidar well enough that they should have formed their own opinions and philosophies.

    Post 4:  Truth

    • Truth is the end result of one's philosophy.  Explain this in a logical way:  Set up two clearly different (or opposing) philosophies, give a scenario, apply both philosophies, and see how the truth differs.
    • Apply this to the Ajahs.  (Ex:  Political leaders sometimes hire Aes Sedai as advisors.  Those who are concerned about their political standing normally hire Grays.  Those who are more concerned about the happiness of their citizens hire Blues.)  You can use any example you want.
    • To expand on this, talk in general terms about Portal Stone Worlds.  Each world, according to records, has a different outcome because of different circumstances.  The truth in each place is different from the truth that we know.

Homework:  Write a scenario in which a decision that you made changed the outcome of events.  What would have happened if you had chosen differently?  Challenge:  Do not write about deciding to come to the White Tower.

    Post 5:  Logic and Strategy

    • Meet in the library in a room sectioned off from the actual library.
    • Start with something along these lines:  Why are we meeting in the library?  Information and logic often go hand in hand.  The more information we have about a particular situation, the more effective our actions brought about by logic will be.  Give a situation that applies to this line of thinking. Ex: evacuating a village because of an attack or a natural disaster.  Who do you lead out first?  It can't be healthy and capable adults, because it's likely that they can help locate and move elderlies or infants, they can help you organize their neighbors who would likely trust them over you as an Aes Sedai.  You use strategy to get people out in the most effective way possible.
    • Pass out history books where failures of strong leaders are marked.  Their assignment before they leave is to find holes in the logic of the leaders.  OOC:  Leaders may be made up for the sake of creativity, just as long as they didn't do anything significant.

Homework:  Explain your findings, and explain how things would have ended up differently if the leaders had had more information about the situation.

    Post 6:  Human Element

    • Meet in the library again.
    • Ask your students what every single book out there has in common.  Try not to give it away in the narrative.  After sufficient guesses have been made, tell them that the common denominator is people.  Humans.  Authors.  Every piece of information that enters books, that enters minds, that enters trains of logic has passed through a person.
    • It's a common misconception that the White Ajah lacks feeling and empathy, that all they care about is logic.  Give examples of your own life (trying to avoid instances in the tests to become Accepted and Aes Sedai) that evoked emotions.  Try to give examples after you have attained the shawl.  The White Ajah is still made up of Servants of All.  Logic and philosophy must take into account feelings and individuality of human beings in order to serve all.
    • As an assignment: have students take every piece of homework they have written, hand it to another student, and have them write about their classmate.  What kind of person are they?  What will they contribute to the Tower?  Anything they can glean from their assignment adds to their view of their classmate.
  10. Leala hadn't taken the task of teaching novices in quite a long time.  She much preferred teaching advanced classes to Accepted.  But for now, she had been tasked with teaching novices about philosophy.  At the point where most of them were, it was teaching them what philosophy was, and then giving them a few examples.  Philosophy was such a broad subject, and she had never taught it to novices before.  It was a display on just how had a topic it was to breech with some of them as she looked through some of their dissertations.  One essay was particularly disappointing.  One young novice took it upon herself to explain her "philosophy" on the One Power, but it was much more like a theory she had on where the True Source came from, and how it was tied in with the creator.  Not willing to put the paper aside like it was a failure, Leala wrote that the student should see her after class.

After a few more papers, she decided to take a break.  She wouldn't see this class until the next evening anyway.  She stacked papers that would need more work to one side, papers she had graded and was ready to pass back to another stack, and put the untouched ones in the middle.

She stood up and found her dinner on a table where she had placed it earlier in the evening.  Finally sitting down to it, she found it was cold.  She warmed it up with a weave of Fire, then ate her simple dinner.  She wasn't that hungry tonight, really.  She just needed something in her stomach before bed.

With that done, she changed into her nightgown and went to bed.  As she tried to relax herself, she couldn't help but think of what she could say, how she could teach to make these young women understand philosophy.  Maybe there were some philosophers she could use as examples that she hadn't thought of yet.  Maybe she could explain what philosophy was compared to theory.  She had never thought of this subject that she had spent so many years studying as it would seem to someone who had never touched upon it...  Maybe she could ask some other Whites for help...

Leala found that she could not sleep and decided to get up and walk around the Tower.  That would certainly tire her out.  She would need to get out of bed and get dressed first, though.  And just like that, with that simple intention, she was out of bed and dressed.  She stared down at her attire.  It was a simple white dress with gold embroidery, the kind she normally wore.  But, just a moment ago, she was wearing her nightgown.  And, then it changed back to her nightgown.  Looking up, she saw her room exactly how it had been a moment ago.  She walked over to her desk and picked up a paper she had graded.  It was just as it had been as well, but it disappeared out of her hand after a second or two.

    "Hmm...."

She dropped her hands and walked out to the middle of her rooms.  This was certainly odd.  She looked down and saw that her nightgown had turned into her dress again, this one even more plain than the other one had been.  It lacked the embroidery, but it wasn't a novice dress.  She noted that she was now wearing a cloak as well.  She didn't feel as if she was dreaming, but the world around her was acting as if she was.

"Ah," she said.  "This must be the World of the Dreaming.  And here I thought I didn't have a Talent."  She thought that the next day, she would have to immediately find a Brown, and then she was in the Library.  She stared around and saw Browns flashing in and out of spots in their work while they dreamt.  They were just flashes, but they were there.  The Browns were certainly dedicated.  One Brown sister appeared in front of her, a mousy sister named Ellyan.  She stayed for more than a second, and seemed to see Leala for a moment before disappearing.

Leala knitted her brow and turned around, and walked to the door.  Apparently, she could travel from one place to another with a thought here as well.  She walked to the Tower grounds and crossed her arms.  She was now wearing her white shawl.  This whole experience was making her feel strange, much like this class she was teaching.  Her dress changed to novice whites, but she willed it back to what it had been a moment before.  She'd need to concentrate and find things out.

  11. Ay'Lira perked up a bit when Kathleen said she'd like to hear back from her on what these weaves would be used for.  Now was a good chance to use all that research she had done on battles and strategies used to win them.  She watched as her mentor formed the weaves she was teaching.  As soon as she mentioned a shield of Air, she had one ready.  Messy or harmful, Ay'Lira didn't want any backlash from the weave.  Using Earth and Fire, Kathleen sent the weaves into the ground and she watched as earth, rocks, and fire threw themselves around in all directions.

"It seems to me," Ay'Lira said as the weave died down, "that you could use Riven Earth to throw a large number of enemies off balance, make them fall, inflict a small amount of damage, or catch them off guard.  If they're off-guard or fallen over, you can attack with something more substantial."

She and Kathleen discussed the weave a bit further before she let Ay'Lira try it.  Now, with a little more control over Fire after her last lesson, Ay'Lira had a better idea of what to do with Earth.  She formed the weave, but before she laid it in the ground, she inspected it, making sure she hadn't messed it up.  When she and Kathleen were satisfied, she laid it in the ground.  Because of her shield, none of it got on her.  She tried it a couple more times in a couple more places to make sure she understood it, and they moved on.

Kathleen demonstrated a weave called Grenade to her.  With a stone in her hand, she infused a twist of Earth and Fire to it, before hurling it away.  With shields in place, they watched as it exploded and caught the surrounding ground and plants on fire.  Kathleen put out the fires and returned to Ay'Lira.  She explained that one should always use a shield with this one, which made a lot of sense.  That one had a much more powerful punch than the other.

Ay'Lira chose a rock and constructed the weave over it.  She let the weave settle, and erected her shield of Air.  She made sure Kathleen had her shield up as well before letting it fly over the shield.  Just like Kathleen's, it exploded when it landed, spraying rock, earth, and ashes of plants that it caught everywhere.  When the debris cleared, Ay'Lira put out the fires that it had started before returning to her mentor for the last lesson.

  12. Ay'Lira's blood boiled.  In her younger days, that would have meant that she was losing her temper, or that she would likely explode from keeping it inside and to herself.  But, as a fully initiated Green sister, and having grown up a bit since then, she was using this anger as a new spurt of energy to use the best way possible.  But, she needed to go through the proper channels to see it through correctly.  She couldn't just go off on her own and find this blasted woman and set her aright.  She was behaving like a maniac, and she needed a plan, a way to do this right in the eyes of the Tower.

Maybe it was even time to bond a Warder.

She whirled from her window when a hurried knock sounded on her door.  She glided over to her door and found a nervous Initiate who stammered out that Amena Sedai needed her, and that it was urgent.  Ay'Lira dismissed the newly-raised sister with a nod and breezed past her, closing the door behind her.

Again, she glided along the Green Quarters' halls until she found Amena's rooms.  She found the Captain General in a room with Loraine and Kathleen.  Kathleen was standing rather close to the door, like she was, though.  She had a feeling that they were all there for the same reason, but everyone seemed so on edge.  She closed the door behind her and stood next to Kathleen.

"Did you receive the same report?  I hope so.  If anything was urgent, it would be what's happening in Whitebridge."
