DRAGONMOUNT

A WHEEL OF TIME COMMUNITY

Dragonmount.com is 12 Today!

JenniferL

On September 19, 1998 www.DRAGONMOUNT.com opened it's doors to the public for the first time. Over the years we've grown from a very simple website and a couple of community "Organizations" to a very large community website offering a role playing game, Social Groups, the first Wheel of Time podcast, and the latest in Wheel of Time news and info. We've had some high times when a new book gets released, or an author on tour. We've also had some bad times, such as site crashes, message board failure and the death of Robert Jordan. Through it all, we've stayed strong and remained committed to being the number one place on the internet for fans of the Wheel of Time series.

We're a little swamped right now with TOWERS OF MIDNIGHT being released in a couple months and with completing our site redesign. However, it would feel wrong to not mark the occasion with just a small birthday present.

Jennifer Liang (that's me!) is giving away THREE bags full of Wheel of Time and Brandon Sanderson goodies. These are items that have normally only been available at conventions like JordanCon and at signings. So if you haven't been able to get yourself to to one of these events, now is your chance to get these items. The package includes:

  • A WAY OF KINGS tote bag
  • A "Sly as an Eelfinn" bumper sticker
  • A Wheel of Time logo bumper sticker
  • A JordanCon lanyard
  • A copy of a Wheel of Time comic (issues #00 "Dragonmount")
  • A WAY OF KINGS glow in the dark wristband
  • A TOWERS OF MIDNIGHT bookmark
  • A Brandon Sanderson bookmark
  • A handmade Wheel of Time notecard
  • A JordanCon 2010 program
  • A copy of the Charleston City Paper, featuring an article about Robert Jordan, Brandon Sanderson and the Wheel of Time series
  • A Wheel of Time poster map
  • A Wheel of Time logo pin

How do you get one of these? Simple. Just post below with your favorite memory of Dragonmount over the last twelve years. We'll pick three winners via a random number generator. Sorry, we can only pay shipping costs within the US. But if you're outside the US and are willing to pay for your own shipping, feel free to enter. We'll announce the winners next weekend.

My favorite memory is finding the Dragonmount website. There are two many other memories to list really, but when I first found this website and realized that there was a whole community of people who loved this series as much as I do, I felt that I had found a place to 'belong'.

The day it was announced Brandon would be finishing a Memory of Light. I had no idea who he was but I was over joyed that someone would be finishing it.

I started reading the Wheel of Time series last year when my brother-in-law suggested it to me. I love the series, but I wanted more news and info...that's when I found dragounmount. My favorite memories from the last year or so was Jason's review of The Gathering Storm. I also loved the book trailer for Towers of Midnight and the chapter Brandon Sanderson released.

By far my favourite memory was JordanCon 2010. I had a blast, especially for not knowing anyone :D

I remember my first attempts to use the Internet led me to WoT related fan pages and forums. When I saw Dragonmount.com for the first time, I was blown me away because I never realized fans could be that organized! I'm still in awe at how awesome Dragonmount is. Not hardly a day has gone by in the last year and a half that I haven't visited this site, and the forums.

Thanks Jason and everyone who has made it possible for me to obsess even more over the series I love!

My fondest memory of Dragonmount was first discovering the site when searching for information on the newest Wheel of Time book (Knife of Dreams at the time), and discovering that another book was already in the works. Best day ever.

Aside from all the wonderful, crazy theories I love so much? My initial joining of the site, without a doubt. After resisting joining any online forums for so long, I finally joined DM and posted in the "introduce yourself" forum, and among the wonderful greetings given to me was one who successfully translated my name. Truly a homecoming of mind and heart for one who grew up with only passively interested WoT readers.

I'm a relatively new member, only been here about a year... But I'd say my favorite moment would have to have been the release of the Gathering Storm. I loved discussing it online with people. It was the first time I'd really had an opportunity to discuss WoT with other people, even though I've been a huge fan for years.

I remember coming here and being floored at the idea of a CGI video of the creation of Dragonmount. I saw the concept art and thought "How cool?!"

Now that I'm older, I know how hard 3d modeling actually is. Good idea and I can't wait to see it happen (sometime, somewhere).

Happy Birthday, Dragonmount!

Simply put...the people. I found Dragonmount while searching for info on the fate of the series when RJ passed. After lurking a couple weeks, I found the Social Groups, and have never looked back. I have made hundreds of acquaintances, and dozens of friends over the last three years.

It was also refreshing to hear that I am not the only person who has reread the series a ignorant number of times.

My favorite Wheel of Time thing is the Great Hunt which Sanderson and team did... simply epic. I'd love to help create another...

However my favorite memory of the site is shortly after I first joined. I was trying to figure out what to do to RP and joined the Org boards temporarily to talk to people until I had a bio and the system figured out. I was sucked in and still haven't made it down to the RP community because of the wonderful, eccentric, and random people *Cough Children cough* around the site. Especially one little miss... The community and people are just amazing.

Thank you all.

Lots of memories!

1. Accidentally uncovering a spoiler about Ba'alzamon I wish I hadn't, while browsing through Dragonmount in the middle of reading The Great Hunt. Yes, that spoiler.

2. The cracking coverage of the Suvudu Cage Match between Rand Al'Thor and Jamie Lannister from a Song of Ice and Fire. No idea how that all became so gripping and tense, but I was refreshing every 2 mins to see how the voting was going. Evidently Dragonmount was just as excited.

3. The exciting build-up to TGS, the first WoT book in four years. One of the few sites I would visit daily to check up on every little tidbit of news.

Here's to another 12 Dragonmount!

I would have to say RJ's very thorough postings as he was going through the last year of his life. I'm glad that "we" were that important to him.

I think my favorite memory of the site is also my least. After RJ's death, I was able to come here and share my grief with my fellow fans and with Harriet. It helped to have posts from Jason and from Wilson. It was relieving to see into RJ's and Harriet's estate, hear of the meeting of family and friends and see some of how he lived his life. At the end of the day, we're all just fans, we deserve nothing more than the art the artist leaves us, but to be included, to feel as though we were part of his life just as he was a part of ours was something special from his family and from Dragonmount.

Happy birthday. Here's to mostly happy memories.

I first discovered Dragonmount when RJ was writing his blog, and since then I've been hooked. I loved that we were able to get answers to questions directly from the Creator's mouth. Thanks for all the hard work you guys do to keep all of the fans up to date on the latest WoT news! The degree of interaction that you folks have had with both RJ, Brandon, Harriet, and Team Jordan is impressive. Keep it up!

I cannot be sure of the date, but my fondest memory of Dragonmount is the day I would have normally ventured to wotmania (being my first introduction to the Wheel of Time universe online)......only to find that it had been shut down. Fortunately, Dragonmount brought many of those fans, like myself, into the fold and I felt that the transition was pretty smooth. I could still read theories, catch wotnews, and peruse the fan art gallery every once in a while...Now I feel that Dragonmount is the sweet hook-up for all things Wheel of Time (except for the Thirteenth Depository. Those guys rule at what they provide for us...) Dragonmount means a great deal to us. Thanks to all who run it and propagate its existence.....The Wheel turns.....

Happy Memories: I always enjoyed reading RJ blog. What an amazing writer. After that would come the news that Brandon had been selected and agreed to finish the series.

Even though I haven't posted in ages (had competely lost my old username and account), I have always referred to this site for the latest news and updates, usually at least 2-3 times a day. NO, I am not obsessed. Why would you think that?

My favorite moment was sending a 'dumb' question as a newby to Luckers and getting a quick, polite response. That's when I knew that this was a great site. Congratulations on 12 years and let's hope there'll be many many more.
