Liandrin and Three Other Cast Members Announce Themselves

Jason Denzel
  • At least four actors announced their involvement in the Wheel of Time TV show.

Four actors announced their involvement in the upcoming Wheel of Time TV show via social media today.

As of this time, Amazon hasn't officially confirmed their involvement, although Rafe Judkins, the showrunner, "liked" each of their social media posts. That, combined with the coordinated timing, and the obvious scripts visible in each of their hands, ensures that this is more than a rumor.

  • Kate Fleetwood will play Liandrin Guirale of the Red Ajah.
  • Jennifer Cheon Garcia will play an unspecified Aes Sedai.
  • Daryl McCormack has an unspecified role.
  • Maria Doyle Kennedy will play an unspecified role (most likely an Aes Sedai).

These actors all posted photos of themselves holding copies of the scripts for episodes 105 and 106. The cast had gathered together for a table read.

In addition to those four actors, other previously-confirmed actors Madeleine Madden (Egwene), Hammed Animashaun (Lioal), and Priyanka Bose (Allana Sedai) also posted photos of themselves holding copies of the script for those episodes.

Tell us what you think of these casting announcements in the comments! Which characters do you think the 3 actors with unspecified roles will play?

Good grief ... really? I have nothing against the lady, but why pick someone who doesn't even vaguely resemble the nation which Liandrin comes from?? Who are they now going to pick for Amathera, and the Innkeeper who's name I now forget? I just don't get it.

Maria Kennedy...Possibly Elaida??!!

This is exactly who I thought of. I like how these women are a TINY bit older and have the ageless look. Are they 39 or 59? Love the casting so far, especially Rand and Matt.

I too have been disappointed with some of this - absolutely Randland is very multicultural so was looking forward to seeing everyone, however it is hard to believe that those in the two rivers who have been largely isolated from the rest of randland for 100s of years would have a mix of ethnicities as they have depicted. As much as I love diversity it will make it a lot more difficult to see clear differences between cultures, which are very noticeable in the books, but I am guessing a little outdated in view in these times, however culture vs. culture is what a lot of fantasy stories entail. But I am sure there will be effective use of costume etc.

I'm liking Jennifer for Siuan, perhaps just as in all the fan art it reminds me a little of her, and often thought the pictures showed her as having Korean/japanese type features, especially her sharp dark hair - and I like Maria for Veron.

definately, after HBO, Amazon would have been my next pick, as they seem to take risks that pay off. I really liked how they approached American Gods.

As soon as I saw Maria Kennedy's photo, Siuan Sanche popped into my head.  Crystal blue eyes and a very commanding pose.

Jennifer Garcia could easily be Leanna.

Ooh yes! I think she looks perfect for Leanne.

And I agree about Maria for Siuan too.

I guess the brains behind the series have some explenation for this ethnic diversity in a relative small geographic area. But even if people from all over the world would migrate to the Andor part during the breaking, people would still more and more look the same when the story starts. That´s just how it works.

I actually don't really understand why people picture Lan as asian. They live 1000 km from Tar Valon...

Terrible casting choices.  The reason GoT was so successful is that they stayed true to the ethnicity that the author described in the books.  So many of the choices for this TV adaptation are just diversity for the sake of diversity.  They have strayed too far from the story and the show will suffer as a result.  It's too bad.

I've read the series twice, so using the exact descriptions of the late Robert Jordan, I have conjured images of the characters in my mind.  Diversity for the sake of diversity is not a bad thing.  After all, John Wayne portrayed Ghengis Khan in the 1950's movie "The Conqueror".  lol.  Black actors portray our white founding fathers in "Hamilton".

Having said that, I don't think I'll be watching.  Most books translated to the small or big screen suffer from meddling re casting, writing, direction, straying too far from the author's direction, and a whole host of other situations those in front of the camera and those behind it fail to translate.  I will avoid the sure and certain disappointment, at least to me, by not watching.
