Seph votes confuse me. What y'all seeing?

 

Also mixed feelz on clov. I want to like him more than I actually do like him so far.

 

An opportunity for discussion, mainly.  

 

I already pointed out some things that stood out to me about Seph early on.  I don't even know if they seem scummy to me as much as unnatural.  It was 80 posts into the game when he made that post I quoted.  Did he really need to point out that Alanna had flip flopped?  If she had, does that mean anything for her alignment?

Penny...IDK...just kind of overplayed it for me with her response to Liz calling her out.  I fully believe that that Penny would be annoyed if Liz was jumping down her throat early.  I know they've gotten into it a couple times in the past on PerC and just don't really work together.  So annoyance makes sense to me...but here, it just seems fake.

In a vacuum, sure.  I accept that.  But where is the tunnel?  This is EVERYTHING Liz had said about her to that point.

I don't see how you can legitimately make that argument.  I quoted everything she said to/about you prior to your comment.  She had barely said anything about you, whatsoever, and she had substantially more content directed towards other players.

She accused me of being scum for my first 3 posts that I made while at dinner and after work!! How does that make me scum? This is why I don't even want to get into it because it becomes this huge argument where people take sides between us. It happened in the tower and true love and we were both wrong. If this is faking then i'm just going to stop this here.

 

Without getting into another circular argument, because I hope you'll take to heart the comments I made in my preceding post: I was not wrong about your alignment in either of those games. You were wrong about mine. You're still under the mistaken belief that because I was pushing you in True Love and because I chose to sacrifice you in the Tower (where I had no choice but to vote for one of my town reads) that I did those things because I thought you were scum. I've told you multiple times that I knew you were town in both those cases and I made choices based on what I thought was the best strategy for the game at that time.

 

But I'm not hashing this out again with you in a game thread. As Chris pointed out, you're not the only person I've been poking in this game, and there are people I've poked far more. So if you're town try to get out of the mindspace that everything I do is about you. If you're scum, I'll just remind you that emotional manipulation ain't going to work on me. Expect me to push you. Figure out how to deal with it.

I feel like she is already zeroing in on me because i'm the player she knows most here. I kind of don't want to clog the thread with this banter if it can be prevented. I would like for us to figure out a way to work together without tunneling to happen.

It's me actually trying to read people without me overreacting like I do in almost every signal game I'm town in. I get tired of it. If I want to accurately guess alignments then it takes time and getting into tunnels with overreacting never helps.

 

This is fair. And like I said - you were kind of pushed into being more reactive over it. But I also think It's fair that people questioned you on the wording of your initial response, and I think you need to get used to the fact that people often don't understand what you're trying to say with the way you phrase things. I didn't really catch on to what you were getting at until I read Chris and Sili's commentary. But it feels like you expect that people should just be able to automatically interpret what is often very confusing wording from you.

What's your point?  I read people wrong all the time*.  That doesn't stop me from getting quick reads on them sometimes.  Sure, I try to give them some wiggle room so I can adjust as necessary, but it's not like Liz was exactly calling for Penny's head on a steak.

 

 

* it's a well documented fact Chris has never misread anyone in his life.  They just...don't flip the correct alignment sometimes

 

I see where youre coming from with Liz and I really havent liked any of Penny's responses at all.

 

My one problem with Liz was made worse by Penny stating that they tend to read each other wrong.

 

But much more concerning is Penny's subsequent reaction Liz's read then the read itself.

Darthe - What did you see about Seph that you liked about him so far?  I'm looking through his ISO again and am having a hard time seeing why anyone would take an issue with the vote.  I could see people maybe not agreeing with it, but all I'm seeing from him is a few posts of things that read more like meaningless dirt kicking than genuine attempts to resolve people.  I'm not going to dig up the same one's to Alanna I already highlighted.

The only person i feel uneasy about in the thread so far is alanna, I usually have trouble reading her until later so we shall see.

@ calder. Thanks, your response makes me feel better at least, and this is just how I play =p. I need to engage people, so making early reads and getting reactions is something I need to do.

@ sili. my last game here, though it was 6 months ago I had 4 towns right, and the 1 mafia i voted for by page 6 or so based entirely off of tone. So why I still won't base everything entirely on this, I am fine with trusting my gut on tone.

I use a lot of !!!!!! and ???? as well, why does that bother you about him?

 

that has become your own playstyle. it's difficult to garner anything from it.
It can be a nervous habit for some, which is why I questioned him about it.

 

 

 

 

 

I've played a few games of mafia, and I'm pretty sure there's no argument to be made for punctuation as a scumtell or anything else.  If his issue with Calder's vote had actually been the vote/post, itself, I might actually buy that - I could definitely see how people that haven't played with him before could read his playstyle as scummy as a whole.  But the fact it was choppy and had exclamation points?  

 

The intro post from Laine he's referring to was "weee, game on."  Sure, tone reading isn't an exact science, but c'mon.

I honestly have no idea.  I can only assume who those rumors (note the spelling) of him being a strong player came from, and I stand by that assessment.  The problem I have with him is he's a very counter-intuitive player by design.  I've seen him essentially lolcat for being outed scum when town.  I've seen him claim mafia as town multiple times.  The problem is he does these things as mafia, too, and it makes it damn near impossible to have any sort of meta for him, beyond "Don't trust him."

 

His content...not great, not bad.  I have no problem with him essentially shrugging off your vote to begin with, and his point about his meta is pretty valid to me.  You had just said you knew he was a strong player, so I can't fault him for assuming you knew more about him.

Is this a serious vote?  I don't remember who you were on before, if anyone - IR, maybe? - but if this is a legitimate "I think she's mafia" I think you're reaching a bit hard.  Like you said, she hasn't really said much of anything.  I'm not even sure she has five posts at this point.

 

If this is just pressure, then I really don't have any issue with it.  Until I see some comment, I can't really give an assessment of her.  Hallia is never a particularly loud player.  She has spurts of activity in between (sometimes long) periods of inactivity as either alignment.
