So... Hally makes her first post at 1:00 AM - Goes to sleep - then posts some thoughts and reads after getting caught up the next morning. You know. Like a normal person.

This is you:

Greeting, everyone!  Been out of mafia a while but here goes...

I have to admit this should be amusing to watch you try to read someone you've never seen before… commence!

Then nothing for 5 hours until you answer a post directly addressed to yourself. Which means you are there but ignoring the thread until your name comes up. Behavior that has been categorized as:

lurking like a campsite murderer

Do you see why I would be confused by your assertion given your own first post and subsequent behavior?

Posted

Tell you guys what.  Since I feel I've made my opinions on the game so far perfectly clear, you can either

a) Continue this overly aggressive assault on how "dumb" my posts are and how mafia-like I'm playing

or

b) Actually vote me

There's apparently a "don't lynch the new player day 1" rule/tradition, but if you're really in the mood to rid the game of a useless townie who contributes nothing, I give you permission.

Less talk more rokk.

Not sure why you are getting all aggressive here but I'll play...

1. WRT my "greatest strength" - I've been in the game for like 3 hours - all in catch up mode. Not sure how much of a threat you expected me to be while not here?? Odd statement for you to make. The last time I played with scum Cory [in VS] you tried to get me mislynched while I was still in catch up mode. So I'm reading this post with that informing my read.

2. So you are saying Town you can't read Hally even though you have already claimed you can read Hally ["the nicest person in the world"] in the past and just hydraed with her as scum? That sounds like a YOU problem to me...

3. I was paying attention to the game where I correctly identified your slot as scummy. Eventually. I have no way of knowing when/if you stopped paying attention to your partner but that doesn't change the fact you have your scum QT and your hydra QT to go back to at ANY POINT in the game. Seems like a nice tool to have at your disposal for reading the Hally slot given that the meta is so darn fresh.

4. A lot has changed since that VT game. The Krak game made it crystal clear to me that #soulreads have been nothing but detrimental to the Town. If you want to say Manbat is Town? Great. Just give me a legit reason. You know. The same stuff I asked for in the Krak game.

5. Not sure what you are characterizing as a "narrative." Care to quote it/point it out?

1. How is that an odd thing for me to say? You did the "LOL SCUM SHOULD BE SKURRED" thing. Still rings as disingenuous to me.

2. I said that in a scum game, but yeah, I can usually figure out when Hally goes out of her SCUM range. She's not a player I can recognize AS scum, just a player I can recognize as town and be right a lot. So far nothing, HENCE THE PROBLEM. That should be EASY for you to understand. Let me know if I need to make you a graph or charts or something if this isn't getting through.

3. See above IRT to Hallia. I have been playing with her for almost a year; I think I'm at my max capacity on my ability to read her. Her slank town game and scum game are similar enough that it's hard to pick the two apart because she gives you VERY little. How am I expected to read her with her ABSENT volume? You putting the onus of my for your partner's lack of content seems more like your D2-D5 derp scum game (see: Discworld) than your town game. Have fun being Yates

4. I gave a lot of reasoning on monstr - MAYBE YOU SHOULD READ THE THREAD BEFORE POSTING OPINIONS AS IF YOU HAVE A POINT. Right? Sensible?

5. See ALL THE ABOVE, your general attitude (#toan) and the fact that I don't think these are the sort of lines you take as town.

also cory I like your posts MORE than mish's, and hydras are sort of a new thing to me so I'm still working out how to try to read them, but I might as well let you know that I really disliked posts 538 and 572, though post 554 mitigates 538 almost entirely

i don't know what posts these are but i assure you they were great

i find players here much easier to read then a place like POG so i would highly consider sheeping my strong reads

willing to show you love but also know i'll always be paranoid of you

cory why would you ask me that and then have no comment on my answer

football bro

i would have guessed sili tho

Worth noting I know I've allowed myself to be fooled by people who take jmm's line

I remember a player named Lazy from here that was old-schooler taking the same line as Mafia and it sated me

I know jmm's being mentored by an old-schooler so there's a back-head paranoia worry that that line is something scum used to take often here successfully

Thanks for playing jmm.

You're welcome!

:flamingsword:  :flamingsword:  :flamingsword:

Couple technical questions:

What does the sword signify?

The colors you're using are ranging from cool (town guess) to red (scum guess), correct?

Posted

Blue = 99.99% a villager

Green = Very likely a villager

Light Green = Slightly more likely to be a villager

Purple = LOL TOMTHETOM

Grey = I UNNO MANG

Orange = Slightly more likely to be Mafia than town

Red = Very likely Mafia

The sword itself has many meanings and interpretations. It could be my way of saying "Right on, brother!" or my way of saying "I want to cut you into little pieces and spread them over my lawn" or even "I like the way you look in red, but I don't really think you can pull off that dress".  I think in this case it's all of the above.

I'm actually more about trying to figure you out rather than playing the "don't lynch the noob on day 1" shtick. We don't get a lot of mislynches so I would appreciate it if you would help me out if you are Town since, you know, it's kind of your job to not get lynched if you are a Townie.

Awww Cory im finally not scum to you after my first post. Are you starting to care again?

So I musta missed something with you and Hallia/Yates, usually your so adamant about her being town whats different this time?

Look at it from my PoV.  I get posts like this saying "help me out here", so I give some opinion or tidbit.  Then these posts gets dissected (fair enough, analysis is mandatory in this game), but I keep ending up with rather aggressive attacks coming my way.

I still fail to see how me saying "ooo I'm a townie, and here's who I think are scum and why" over and over makes me any less likely to be scum.  Anyone can do this, and probably will.  I'm coming at this from a little different angle which seems to be bothering people.  That's fine if you're bothered by it, but analyze without going all crazy aggressive.  The ability to analyze anyone is the standard for a star mafia player.

Posted

All that said, I stand by my previous statement: if you want a specific question answered, I'll probably give it to you.  Just be reasonable about it.

I'm trying to read you correctly - The last two times we were v/v on VS I screamed for your lynch D1 and I thought some of your points were okay and fit how you typically think as a villager. So I'm not just going to scream you out of the game, plus it's been awhile, and plus I missed you a little. >.>

I'm adamant that Hallia is a villager when she's an obvious villager. Nothing to do with us outside of the game, I just find her towntells easily demonstrable. I don't have anything concrete ATM and the rule of thumb with her has usually been "when Cory doesn't have her as lock clear on Day 1 she's probably Mafia but he's too much of a wuss to get her lynched for it."

SO I'M TRYING TO BE LESS OF A WUSS OBV

You have or had Sleeper Service as your #2 scum on your list IIRC. What had he done by that point of the game to give you that read?

I'll go look myself and see if I can see it the way you do.

First impression based off early couple posts.  It's not a strong suspicion, but it's one nonetheless.  You could see that list as "keep a close eye on these as the game goes on".  I tend not to get really suspicious of anyone too early in the game unless I see something really odd, which I haven't.  As I specified before, it's after the first death that things start to get really interesting.  Play time's over, someone is out, and interpersonal reactions start to take on a new light.  I don't like to suspect too much before that point.

1. How is that an odd thing for me to say? You did the "LOL SCUM SHOULD BE SKURRED" thing. Still rings as disingenuous to me.

Yeah. The clear implication is scum should be scared going forward. As in, now that I *am* here and paying attention. Fairly certain you are being intentionally obtuse at this point. To what end? Remains a mystery.

Not certain the snark is warranted. Certainly adds no value or enjoyment to the game. Not for me, at least.

With that said, you act as if Hally not posting a lot is suddenly something scummy for her. Would you disagree with my assertion that Hally doesn't post all that much REGARDLESS of alignment?

Let's call a spade a spade. The timing of your post didn't happen in a vacuum. You didn't find her scummy until I popped in reminding you that I was part of her hydra. Hence, your Des reference from earlier being apt. [For those of you that don't know, Des and I had a string of like 8 or 9 games in a row where he tunneled on me regardless of his alignment.]

3. See above IRT to Hallia. I have been playing with her for almost a year; I think I'm at my max capacity on my ability to read her. Her slank town game and scum game are similar enough that it's hard to pick the two apart because she gives you VERY little. How am I expected to read her with her ABSENT volume? Okay. I retract my question from above. Here you clearly admit to Hally being a slank poster regardless of alignment. So you see why you claiming you suddenly considered Hally "a problem" for "slanking" [and really - it's the weekend so is she even REALLY slanking?] might ping for me/require further investigation/explanation?

Also, categorizing my scum game as "derp scum" is fairly childish. I won that, more or less, single-handed. Get over it. If the differences between my play here and my play in that game don't become immediately apparent? THEN you can worry about it. At this point? It's just an excuse/fake justification to justify your "read" on the slot. We both know it.

Finally, I'm here now. And I'm caught up. If you have a problem with my slot, feel free to direct your questions or concerns to me. I'd be happy to help. So you can go ahead and remove "lack of activity/posting" as an excuse to "scum read" or "have concerns" with this slot since I think we both know activity isn't going to be a problem with me in the game. Time to reassess, dude.

4. I gave a lot of reasoning on monstr - MAYBE YOU SHOULD READ THE THREAD BEFORE POSTING OPINIONS AS IF YOU HAVE A POINT. Right? Sensible?

I was using that as a carry over example from Krak's game, in case that wasn't evident. No need to rehash my #ALLIANCE argument from that game.

5. See ALL THE ABOVE, your general attitude (#toan) and the fact that I don't think these are the sort of lines you take as town.

Yeah, I'm going to go ahead and call bullshanks on this one. At the time you claimed our slot "a problem" I had all of one post. That post was a placeholder for the game. That's it.

In case anyone wants to fact check, these are the posts in question:

Where I enter the game:

Just a post to say hello [which really means to add this forum to my "posted in" list]. I will be joining Hally in this adventure as soon as I'm caught up. And that will not be tonight.

Good evening!

I have zero additional content before this post SEVENTEEN MINUTES later:

Yates/Hallia slot is a problem :(

A problem that might require deathening

So Cory, you were saying something about someone having a "narrative...???"

I don't find Hallia scummy; I have one note as a mild positive for her. She has been almost completely absent AFAICT.

I have you as scummy.

It has nothing to do with "absence" in regard to you, it's the specific lines you are taking and that this reminds me nothing of your villager game - which I am decent at identifying.

I have no interest in burying you ATM, but if I decide you are the best lynch by EOD I will bury you and there will be little you can do.

Me calling your slot a problem was a lack of activity, specifically from one player (Hallia) who I read quite well. This has moved from problem to > rand mafia as you've entered the game.

I am actually going to dissect that entire post since it's terrible and I'm bored and feel like it.

But before I do, the "Des" reference had to do with the fact that Lenlo came in with a reads list very similar to mine (except on csarmi/dice) really and you had a list I didn't really like and me choosing to townread Lenlo for it.

It didn't really had to do with the reads, but I felt mildly ashamed. I just went with what I think is most likely to be correct.

Posted

Specifically: I am joking that about Des' tendency to townread people with similar lists as him.

Which is probably not a bad strategy most of the time and was a light jest in case he's reading because I love him and it was meant to just be a joke about an exagerration people have made about his playstyle.

The truth is I miss him very much and wish he'd stop ignoring my Facebook Scrabble requests.

All of this is non-relevant, but after I got a PR for making fun of Darthe in Discworld I figure I'd specify.

Checking in to say I'm here... slanking unintentionally. Seems everytime I go to say something I'm distracted.

Yates, you're being aggressively town, so you get a carrot. Congratulations.

Dice, you shush. If you want my opinion of you to change you'll have to prove my opinion wrong. Simple as that.

Jmm, you're anti-town. Wanna make that clear.

Whoever it is that pointed out I treated the wagon on me like a joke... well it sort of was last time in the marlfox game.

Sleepah, I don't like you saying you're obviously town. I don't know your meta yet. And I'm going to have to guess it.

Tom could be lying I guess. Or I wouldn't be surprised if he were. Hopefully night actions can resolve his slot.

Character Notes:

Mish and Sleepah are acting like arbiters of the thread.

Yates is the soldier.

Cory is the town fool.

Jmm is the drunk.

Dingus is the wise bard.

Err is a newcomer.

Yes, this accomplishes nothing, but I have no strong reads yet and my vote on jmm is more or less casual. I wouldn't mind lynching him if I don't find anyone better by the end of the day, but hopefully there are better lynches than someone who's presence in the thread can be reduced to 'wanting to be lynched'.

I don't think I was being unreasonable. I am genuinely curious as to how you came to your stated conclusion given the post in question and [and this is the important part] subsequent play. I just showed you her first post. It has a time stamp. Then I linked to her second post, which not only suggests she was being truthful in her initial post [which you are questioning] but also demonstrates a "game solve" mindset. Do you disagree with my interpretation of these events?

Also, since I'd like to get you talking about something besides my hydra partner, I'm curious as to your take on Cory's case on our slot. This might help me since you are the only other person I'm aware of that has legitimately claimed to have found our slot suspect.

Please and thank you.
