David Eddings destroys own office by accident

Inexplicable. David Eddings for the 2007 Darwin Awards? Luckily, no-one was hurt and none of his important documents were lost, but he lost his prized sportscar and some of his equipment and his fax machine. Still, perhaps there are other ways of finding out if that puddle on the floor is in fact gasoline rather than, you know, setting fire to it to see what happens?

Whatever you do, DON'T read the Elder Gods!! I loved the Bel/Mal, and Althalus was fun (attack sheep, ehehehehee), but the Elder Gods book 1 was absolutely awful!! :?

that's sad as heck about his wife; i hadn't heard that either, and i gather from his blurbs and author's notes that they're really close. that's kinda depressing...

his writing's a little second-rate, but it's a good read for younger teens, in my opinion. i have most of the older books, except for high hunt and the losers, but i stopped getting his stuff before althalus. after the belgarath and polgara books, i just sort of gave up on him.

and what twisted senile logic could have prompted him to pull this bonehead move? my god... it really is comedy, though of a decidedly noir tone.

interesting story, thanks man!

David Eddings is FANTASTIC for reluctant readers. Yes, its simple plots and simple characters, but its LOTS of words about them. They suck you in with their ease and simplicity and before you know it, you've read a book.

I need to get a set for my classroom. I slipped the TEotW onto the shelf this week, but no one's nibbling yet. =)

that's my general sentiment too. sort of a fantasy primer, not suitable for people who've read the better stuff, but kinda entertaining just the same. it's vaguely satirical of normal fantasy too, which gives it a bit of value for more seasoned readers too, in extreme modertation leastwise.

I think Eddings is the best. I can't think of a series I have enjoyed more from beginning to end. Sure you can compare him to Robert Jordan and say that the writing isn't as in-depth.. but it all comes down to a good story, and it doesn't get any better than the Belgariad/Mallorean series in my opinion.

is that good or bad Boyo?

I enjoy the Belgariad. It is entertaining and just like Raijin says... cheers you up. And totally agree with everyone on the 'Elder Gods'... don't.

Good to see that Eddings is able to laugh over his own stupidity. Makes him sound like a decent sort of guy. Not at all stuck-up.
