It has taken me a long time to catch up. Here are my thoughts:

 

Feels town:

 

Cory/AJ: Have gone after Red and Mynd and I agree with most things they have said. I also agree with Cory about Dawn. I´m not sure that I agree with Red being town but otherwise a lot of good posts.

 

Tommy: Like Cory/AJ, I like his posts. 

 

Yates: I believe his vig claim. I also like they way he went after Red and Mynd. 

 

X: Voted Mishtress, which I didn´t believe in, but he stayed there and had reasons for his vote.

 

Nyn/Kat: The same as X. I´m a little worried that X and Nyn buried their votes on a townie but they tried to convince others to vote there so I get a townie feeling. 

 

 

Don´t know:

 

Zanube: All things she has done this game has been her strange vote. Want her to post more. Hope she is well.

 

Hally/Leelou: Hally seemed to hide behind her suspiciouns of Dawn but Leelou where more out in the open. I usually know her alignment but I can´t say she has done anything that is townie enough or scummy enough yet.

 

Jack: Will he read the whole thread soon? 

 

Krak: The same for him.

 

Lenlo: I´m not sure what to say about him. The "I told you so" post look ugly but he hasn´t said much this game. 

 

 

Mafia:

 

Mynd: I don´t like the way he defended Red. Why would anyone think someone would fakeclaim but still be town? I don´t like how he is going after the hydras. I didn´t like the story he tried to sell today with the na´s. I don´t like the way he talked about character claims being able to clear people. He said that we (Verbalina) jumped between Mish and Red which is false. We only voted Red.

 

Red: Still think she is mafia and I`m afraid that she will skate through the game now since she survived d1. 

 

Dawn: I have only played one game with her and she was clueless in a way that made me believe she is town. Here she is more absent than clueless. 

 

Amega/Cloud: Cloud has posted well but Amega has written some strange things. Amega went from believing Mynd to voting Mynd to vote Tommy for something that happend in the beginning of the game. Very weird.

I'm glad you asked. Let me explain some things that will make sense to the one or two of you confused about why I would claim Vig today.

 

First, we needed an immediate end to the discussion about the alignment of the 2nd kill. We don't need the distraction and you started down that path.

 

Next - We have a claimed BG in Red. Most of us don't believe the claim. That's cool. It doesn't matter. Now Red has someone she HAS to protect now. Me. If I turn up dead tomorrow, Red gets turbo lynched. No questions asked. So if Red is scum? I just became unkillable to scum. They can't kill me without exposing Red, right? Boom. If Red dies protecting me tonight? Then guess what? She just got vetted by DOING HER JOB. That's the only reason you have a BG in the game.

 

Finally - I want you all to pay attention to this part. It's important. This is "Vig 350 - Advanced Vigging" and I want you to understand how future kills will go down. An outed vig should always make this clear"

 

- If our lynch today flips Town - I'm going to vig the most suspicious person ON that wagon.

 

- If our lynch today flips Scum - I'm going to vig the most suspicious person OFF that wagon.

 

Here's why you make this clear: scum is now motivated to bus and discouraged from piling on to a mislynch. Imagine you are scum and one of your buddies is already on a Town wagon. Do you hop on to help out thus increasing the odds that at least one of you will be killed? Are you a secure enough town read with the vig to survive in the first place? Is your scum partner? Now imagine you are scum and a wagon is forming on one of your buddies. Apply the same logic. Do you have enough Town credit to NOT be the person on your buddy's wagon?

I... actually like the plan. Reasoning for vetting Red works for me. I disagree with you letting the second part be known cause now scum can try and work around it, would have preferred you kept that to yourself for awhile, but I like your vig reveal.

Having some annoying computer issues this morning - monitor on my desktop is old and dying, and wouldn't turn on at all this morning (at least hasn't in almost 3 hours of waiting for it)... Laptop hasn't been turned on in a couple of months and needed updates and now wants me to reboot like now if not sooner. Made some notes in our Hydra QT so I can reference them from whichever computer (or my phone) later on.

Lemme start here.

 

 

 

 

I'mma be Captain Obvoius and tell you I'm not inside Mish's head and we don't discuss everything we post in the QT before we say it.  However, I understand her as a player pretty well, and know a good amount about what her life is like and how it affects her playing. Here's the timeline and how I interpret it.

 

First post: She says she was about to complain about having to catch up on 12 pages but sees that everyone is still joking so she posts a joke pic herself.

 

Second post: About half an hour later - responds to Red's meme about complaining about catching up by noting that it's easier to catch up on 12 pages of jokes than serious play right before bedtime

 

Obviously she's had time to scan through the thread and see if there's any serious gameplay that stands out to her - next post is just a few minutes later.

 

Third post: Picks out something that stands out to her - X's intro post - and votes X.  This reads to me like an attempt to find something to start serious gameplay - I'mma go on a little sidetrack here about gamestarter actions, because I've done a lot of thinking about the subject.

 

My thought is that there are basically two methods people use to try to kickstart a game into serious mode.  First is doing something obvious - maybe slightly scummy or even overtly scummy - to draw attention to yourself (i.e. vote someone with no reasoning, claim vanilla town with no provocation, or even claim mafia out of the blue).  You get reactions, you probably get voted, you take note of reactions and probably find something worthwhile to build a train on in the process, and the game moves on.   I see a lot of this kind of action from Darthe, occasionally Wombat, and in this game's example, Yates.

 

Second gamestarter type is the Mountain -> Molehill type, where you nitpick all the fluff posts to find something, usually incredibly minor, as a reason to FOS, vote, or full-on case someone.  You watch for people bandwagoning or building on that case, you watch for people defending that person, and you probably end up abandoning that original case because it was truly nonsense in the first place, but by that point it's generated decent discussion.  Mynd and Red are pretty much masters of this... Mish's vote on X is a smaller example of such an attempt IMO, and didn't get a lot of traction because it was followed up pretty much right away by Mynd and Red using Mish's vote as a much more effective gamestarter.

 

Being on the receiving end of one of those mountain/molehill cases is frustrating as hell, if ya didn't know.  As I said, I've spent a lot of time contemplating kickstart behavior and it's pretty much gotten me to the point where I don't sweat it because I see where they're going with it, but Mynd and Red haven't played much in a good long time (and nobody else does it quite to their extent) and Mish tends to let her frustration bleed into the game more easily.

 

Which is obvious in her fourth post:  She comes in, makes 3 posts, and is suddenly being grilled about her choice of wording.  She tries to lay out the sequence of events.  She's tired and starting to get annoyed. 

 

Fifth post is nearly an hour and a half after she popped in saying she was getting ready to go to bed, and the frustration is obvious.  Sometimes all you can do is roll your eyes.  

 

Sixth post is now two hours after the first statement of her intention to catch up on the thread before she goes to bed, and she's ready to let it go and call it a night, but not before Mynd appears to suggest that she was somehow dishonest in her representation of her intentions to go to bed.   At this point in the QT, I mention how I'm amused that I've been posting and joking around the whole time without anyone saying a word, but she makes one post and suddenly she has Mynd and Red grilling her. She starts thinking that maybe people have forgotten that we share a slot, so she decides if people are still giving her a hard time when she gets up in the morning, she'll try to remind them.  I give her a little pep talk about the Red/Mynd game starter meta.

 

Next post after wake-up time: she's a bit disappointed at the amount of off-topic fluff that was continuing after a few solid game kickstarters.  Notes she's suspicious at Despo being off meta.  Explains to Wombat what she meant by her reason for the Xthrax vote.  Asks Cloud to outline exactly how she changed her story because it's a very vague accusation.  Decides that since people are still pressuring her for little to no reason and nobody seems to find me suspicious, it's time to remind them that we're both part of the same hydra.

 

After people clarify that they haven't said anything about me because I've been a slacker and haven't said anything game related yet, she reiterates her point and tries to let it drop.

 

Comes back with a serious response to several points Tommy made attempting to address his questions, including why she hadn't followed up on her original vote of Xthrax, why she expected people to take my play into account in judging our slot, her reads on Dawn, Mynd, Red, and expanding on her comment about Despo being off meta.

 

Last post in response to another Tommy question confirming her reads on Red and Mynd.

 

After this she advised me in the QT she was going to step away from the game because of an outside issue that put her in a bad mood and she didn't want to let it affect the game. There's this kind of spiral that happens when an emotional person lets emotion bleed into a game where people pounce on it and call it scummy, which just makes you more emotional.  Nobody needs that kind of thing to sidetrack the game. I'm guessing she's sleeping now and we'll probably hear from her again in a few hours.

 

My jumping in this morning with my list of reads wasn't timed and calculated as damage control.  As I said before, I'm not all that wound up about the possibility of being lynched today.  We win with town whether or not we live through day 1, and if our death helps in any way to solve the game, that's worth it.  My intent is to get my thoughts out there to help with the game solving bit, regardless.  If Mynd hadn't specifically asked for it, I wouldn't have spent any time at all defending the other half of my slot. 

 

I'd actually planned to post my thoughts with quotes and whatnot last night, well before people started calling me out as not contributing anything game related, but just got too exhausted to form coherent thoughts so I figured I'd get up early and do it today.  My computer monitor dying a slow painful death, plus my laptop requiring updates for my antivirus, Java, and Windows slowed me down to where I couldn't put in the time I intended so I threw a partial list of mostly gut impressions into the QT so I could reference it and update it later, then copy/pasted it here.

 

Now, it's going on midnight and if I was smart I'd be going to bed, but I promised I'd expand on my quick and dirty reads, so I'll do that a bit before I collapse.

 

I agree with this post. In Mish's second post Mynd was trying to jump start the game. Mafia tend to overexplain things from the slightest bit of pressure.In her next post,Mish started overexplaining things and from this Mynd put a little bit of more pressure. And then Mish started getting twitchy. I felt that then she was redirecting the pressure form her.This makes me suspicious again.

Having some annoying computer issues this morning - monitor on my desktop is old and dying, and wouldn't turn on at all this morning (at least hasn't in almost 3 hours of waiting for it)... Laptop hasn't been turned on in a couple of months and needed updates and now wants me to reboot like now if not sooner.  Made some notes in our Hydra QT so I can reference them from whichever computer (or my phone) later on.

 

Copy/pasting quick hits on the happenings that have stood out to me, without a full re-read or a batch of ISOs a lot of people will be left out for sheer "I don't remember" value... have to get ready for work after this so the next 10 hours my ability to respond will be limited.

Wombat started out voting Red, then nudged trains on both Red/Mish,then soft defended Mish against Cloud, called Cloud's reasoning bad, then sheeped Cloud's vote. Also not fond of his decision to extend the D1 noob pass to Dawn's 5th game. Right now I'm reading it as mafia deciding to defend someone who is likely to be lynched at some point and flip town. Want to vote here.

I usually have a hard time seeing her as town because I can't tell if she's misinterpreting things as scum tells or intentionally misrepresenting them. I've rarely played with her as mafia but I do recall one game, and it took a long time to figure it out. If DesBat is mafia, then Red is probably town.

 

16. Nyankat (Nyn/Kat) - I read Nyn as genuine so far, slight town lean.

 

17. Mynd - likes to nitpick/overblow small things to start cases and get games started. Typically will jump on others who follow along with his weak case. Waiting to see where he goes next since the train he started has grown substantially, and Red is a competing train.

 

18. Tommy - getting a town gut read on him. If mafia I think it'll be obvious later as he plays town leader and leads everyone right off the cliff.

 

19. Yates - Claimed Tytos Blackwood, VT - apparent gamestarter joke, he's a bold player and not afraid to draw attention to himself as mafia. Null read, will re-evaluate later.

What would it have hurt if someone did case the hydras? They may find some interesting info. they may almost clear some people. They may get mynd to shut up about hydras which a number o\f people seem to want.

 

 

Be clear here i am not saying focusing exclusively on the hydra's only is a good thing but i dont see how casing them is a bad thing either. Hydras are not masons there could be mafia among them.

 

Right; they're no different than other players. Mynd has been arguing that they are more dangerous than a non-hydra player and using that as a reason to focus on them. It's factually incorrect, but has become a huge talking point because Mynd keeps bringing it up as if it's a really good strategy.

1. You never "cased" me. You cased Mish and then immediately after voted me for claiming a scum character -- which was a joke you misconstrued.

2. My initial reaction to your vote was to ask you what you dislike about GOATs. Upon realizing your vote was still on me despite your reason for voting me evaporating, I questioned you. You doubled down on a joke vote and are trying to pass it off as serious.

3. Claiming I am cheerleading a Mish vote or am passive ITT is pure fabrication. I explained to Mish what I didn't like about her posting, she replied, I accepted that. I never voted her or called for her head. If anything I diffused it slightly. I currently suspect Mish/X is town/town violence.

Think Cory is right about the Nol shot. I'm surprised Nolder was a VT, I figured he was polarized to scum or cop.

DesBat no coroner implies a janitor. That means future claimfest becomes even more muddied.

I'm probably of the same mind as Cory, I don't care much about flavor, claims, etc. Des was playing pro-town and Nolder was not. That means Des is a scum kill and Nolder is a vig kill 99% of the time. The rest just gets in the way.

 

This assumption only works if you read DesBat's actions as pro-town.  I don't see how DesBat was townie enough to be targeted.  There are far more town-seeming players to target than DesBat. 

 

My take is that the mafia targeted Nolder based on DesBat's scum list.  Guess who is second on that list?  Me.  I'll bet Desbat was part of the scum team, took out Nolder counting on a speed lynch on myself on D2. 

 

 

Nolder was being set up as a lynch today. Regardless of how you view him, scum isn't shooting Nolder when he's a mislynch candidate and scum knows he's town. This is basic.

That's the beauty of making it known. Now EVERYONE knows what to look for after a flip - someone scurrying to get on/off a wagon for weak reasons.  I'm now forcing people to actually PLAY MAFIA THE RIGHT WAY and have REASONS for being on or off a wagon.

 

Plus, there's still the whole encouraging bussing and discouraging piling on to a mislynch thing. So now we have even MORE info to look for when looking at wagons and interactions after flips. "Ever notice how Y and Z are never on the same wagon? Weird."
