I started reading the series a few years back after a grudging hold out when multiple people who insisted this was the best series ever and I had to read it. Can anyone see why I resisted particularly when I started to realize the page count? Yes.... no.... anyone? Anyhow after I let go of my knee jerk reaction to resist this plus I finally found a ridiculous amount of free time on my hands. I started The Eye of the World and am now hopelessly hooked and have sunk many hours into this world as you can see by my being on a website devoted to it lol

Unfortunately work got in the way and I had to take almost two years to focus on learning stuff for that and many things leaked out. I have forgotten major characters/plot themes but apparently my brain thought it was important enough to remember what certain houses and landscapes looked like.  Which translates to mostly useless, so I found the re read on tor.com and am slowly working through that (and using that awesome character encyclopedia thing) in hopes one day I will finally be able to read the final book in the series.

So hopefully I don't get spoilers but can contribute and enjoy the community!

PS

the re read is pretty excellent and most of the commentary is pretty good too

Hi!! Welcome to DM. I never read fantasy series until a friend in my book club insisted this was really good. I promised her I would at least finish the first three chapters and then I was hooked.

How far in the books did you get? You may want to be very careful in the discussion forums if you don't want spoilers. The social groups are a lot of fun and you can meet fellow WoT fans. The social groups have lots of things to do and to choose from. For myself, I am in the White Tower and Warders. Just an FYI, you can't see all of the boards there until you choose to join. There is no limit on group membership so I'd advise you to explore them. Each has their own activities and focus.

We also have a role play area when you can create your own character. I'd be careful there for spoilers depending on how far you got in the books.

If you need help or have any questions just let us know.

I hope you 'll have a great time with us, either in the social communities or in the role playing section.

Awesome and thanks for the warning on the spoilers!! I made it through The Towers of Midnight and I remember most of the major events there but like I said I forgot about a lot of stuff like who each of the forsaken were and what their goals were or even who was still alive or missing or who knew who was where or what not. Just really avoiding things about the final book.

I think that's a good idea. People seem to have strong feelings on the last book whether positive or negative. Hope to see you around the SG's. :)

Welcome to Dragonmount, Kailani! :D

Heh, I can totally understand the hesitation to begin such a long series, especially one that wasn't finished at the time. I'm glad you picked it up regardless! And yeah, remembering everything that has been going on by the last book is tricky, especially if it's been a while. I did a complete reread of the series while waiting for AMoL (and another after finishing AMoL but that's just a testament to my obsession level).

I won't ask about your favourite characters, then, at this point until you've refreshed your memory... :D Do you read other fantasy?

Like others have said, do take a look at the social groups and just ask if you have any questions. I hope to see you around the boards! :D

Thanks for the welcomes, hopefully my opinion on the last book is a positive one. I read some other fantasy but a lot of it tends to be young adult series continuations  because I have a hard time picking books at the store or library when I'm just wandering around. My mom got me interested in some books but the series kinda took a wrong turn somewhere and now neither of us really follow it but I'm open to suggestions!!

What about yourself?

Oh, I'm always recommending a series called Malazan Book of the Fallen left and right. x) It's massively epic and occasionally confusing and *gasp* my favourite fantasy series ever. *makes apologetic gestures in the general direction of the WoT books* Other recommendations I could give... hmm, wait a second, I'm fairly sure there's a whole thread of fantasy recs somewhere... Ha! Yes. There you go. All sorts of recommendations, there. I hope you find something you like!
