I'm an old man living in the past. Stopped reading the series after Crossroads... came out. Considering picking up where i left off. Without spoilers, does the series end satisfactorily?

Also, anyone around remember WOTA from a decade ago?

Hello!! Welcome to DM. I think you'll just have to read the books to find out how it ends or if you want spoilers you can go to the AMoL forum. I'm not sure what WOTA is as I came to the series relatively recently.

Have you had a chance to look around?

Welcome! WOTA? I am unsure of what that is. There are plenty of places to talk about the books. there is also a big social group here with different WoT groups - you can join as many as you want and live in the books or the past is totally ok here

That varies from person to person. I cannot express in words how much I hated the final book. It's almost spoiled the whole series for me. Others absolutely loved it.

I haven't been able to read it. Mostly because I just don't want it to end...

Elgee - this made me sad though - I hate it when it ends like that...

It's not so much the story (though I think if RJ had been alive to finish the series, he would have rewritten it quite a bit, but that's just my opinion), as it is the way it was written. Particularly the characters.

I have not read the last two books and I don't want to spoil the ending.... but by what I heard I thought RJ had at least wrote a guideline and the author that wrote the ending went very close to that? So how is it that the second author wrote it so differently or RJ would have rewritten it? PM me if you need to please. I'm sorry if I'm being pushy. I'm new to the forum and I swear I'm not trying to be. I'm just curious on your opinion, I swear.

I think there are a couple reasons for why some people don't like the ending, and some people who love the ending. Have you read any Brandon Sanderson? He is the author that was chosen to finish the series. Some people have expressed that he didn't stay true to the characters. There was a huge bunch of guidelines and notes left by RJ for use to finish the series and Sanderson has said that he stopped using them after about a month. I have found that so far (as I have read all but aMoL) I have been part of the second group that loves the newer books. But I really love Sanderson's work outside of WoT.

I am really just glad that fans got an ending. It could have been left unfinished, and I think that ending them was taking on a huge job for Sanderson. But you will see mention of the two different groups - people who love the ending and people who hated it -  here sometimes.
