A Couple of Silly Questions

1. What was the route of the Aiel War?

They crossed the Spine of the World at Jangai Pass, and burned the city of Carhien. Fighting is said to have taken place in Tear. The final major battle was at Tar Valon and the Aiel seem to have taken a fairly direct route back into the waste as Lan left them at Kinslayer's dagger.

2. Why did Moiraine go to the Eye of the World without Lan, or go at all?

Moiraine set about finding Rand from the day she was raised to Aes Sedai, and do not believe that she had time to hit the Eye between scenes in New Spring.

I do not believe that the answers to these questions are very important, but I am on a reread and these two things struck me.

The first question is tricky. When the aiel first learned of what laman did they set out for him and him alone. since jangi pass is above carhein the other safest place is tear. the aiel knowing where tear is and knowing by chance that he was on his way down there went down there to see if they could catch him thus fighting in tear. Seeing this Laman turned and headed for the next safest place. Tar Valon.

Yes, the route of the Aiel war was simply the result of the Aiel following Laman around. They didn't view it as a war, they viewed it as taking a blood-price, which is why they just picked up and went home after he was killed in the Blood Snow.

As for why Moiraine would seek the Eye, I'm not sure of all the reasons, but I imagine she knew it was related to the Dragon, and that had something to do with it. But, as I say, I don't know all the reasons ... and I don't recall them ever being discussed.

Plus' date=' the Eye does not have a fixed location. In the first book, it was in the blight. When Moiraine visited it before, it could possibly have been near Tear, or any number of places.[/quote']

The EoTW is always in the blight. When they're going there in TEoTW Moiraine says that the eye is always beyond the high passes in the blight, and that's where it was when she went there.... so not Tear. Good try though. ;)

Also we know that Lan & Moiraine have spent time in the blight together, so it's possible it happened one of those times. And just because they're bonded doesn't mean that they're always together. Look at some of the other Aes Sedai that send their warders on errands, or have them deliver messages, or be scouts. Granted it's unlikely that she went into the blight without Lan it's not impossible.

Moiraine said that is was deeper in the Blight when she found it the first time, and Loial said that all the ogier who went there said it was deeper in the Blight when they found it.

Well... The green man is surprised to see Moiraine there since noe one is supposed to find him twise, but he does not coment on Lan beeing there twise, so I think Moiraine went alone the other time.

Thats possible. Of course, its also possible that having commented on Moiraine, it was unnecessary for him to comment on Lan, since they might have come together the first time too. Since I don't recall an account of it anywhere, there's no way to know.
