Verin and the Horn

Anyone else realize that Verin had her hot little Darkfriend hands on the Horn of Valere for a solid month (or more) on her way back from Toman Head? I realize she was a DF for all the best reasons. ...But, some commands have to be obeyed regardless of personal intentions. Did she hand in the real horn or has the Tower been storing a fancy trumpet since then.

I really don't think Verin could be considered a DF, she really was a light friend who infiltrated the Black Ajah. I doubt she was personally commanded to deliver the Horn, so she didn't have to. Also, Padan Fain was in the White Tower during TFoH (i think in the prologue, but i don't have the book in front of me atm) and he knows that the Horn of Valere was there (along with the ruby dagger).

If she hadn't been given the order to steal it she wouldn't have to. The darkfriends plot against each other as much as the do against everyone else. Chaos- what the DO wants. That's why some of them try to kill Rand and others try to "help" him. But, it's a good thought, man.

Fain was drawn to the dagger, and could sense it. As for him 'knowing' the horn is there, I sincerely doubt it.

*Edit: I do realize he claims to know it is there, but I think he is just assuming it is kept there.

Agreed, I just re-read that part and it was stated that he felt the dagger, but "knew how to sniff out things," which lead to his knowledge of the whereabouts of the Horn. Presumably he asked around about Verin's arrival with an ill Mat after the Falme incident. That said, I don't think Verin pulled the switcheroo for reasons people listed above. Also not to get too off-topic, but I believe Mat is still linked to the horn, because I don't think his brief clinical death or fake balefire death undid that link. He's still the same thread, and thus probably still linked.

We know the DO can only directly communicate to people when they're at SG. In other instances, the orders have to move down the DF chain of command. Also, we know that the BA women only know of the other 2 women in their "heart." Traveling wasn't widespread at this time yet either. Because of this, it seems like a pretty easy process to disappear or become unreachable for a time. Verin was travelling with the horn for a good amount of time, but it's very possible that the forces of the DO might not have been able to find her, or might not even have had a clue that she was with the horn.

Also, remember "Selene" could have put her hands on the Horn numerous times and she didn't, so it seems like the forces of the DO weren't all necessarily interested in the Horn.

Finally, remember that Verin is deceptively intelligent, and her goal has been to undermine the BA, so I'm sure she's gotten adept at avoiding notice and avoiding orders she doesn't want to follow.
