What constitutes a standard game?

I'd be good with

Basic- designed for players that are extremely new to the game or veterans that want to get back to basics. 12 players. Setup 1) 9 town 3 mafia. Roles- cop, doc. Setup 2) 9 town 2 mafia, 1 SK cop, doc, vig (3 shots night only). Setup 3) 9 town, 1 Cult Leader, one SK. Roles-cop, doc, vig (3 shots night only)

Standard- noninvented roles, balance checked by board mods. Majority of players vanilla.

Advances- most or all players roled. Balance checked by board mods to ensure game integrity

Experimental- anything goes. Only open to mods that have demonstrated their ability to handle advanced games. Balance not guaranteed.

NOTE: I wrote 90% of this post a week ago so it might note be entirely relevant to the discussion anymore

the biggest issue I have with this whole thing is that it is pretty arbitrary

which is fine

I'm willing to go with that

but when you think about it it all comes down to personal opinion

like I said earlier I consider Miller to be a basic mafia role, maybe you don't, but maybe the Powers That Be (AKA the governing body here) DO

the only way I see of doing this that would satisfy everybody is to leave it ambiguous as to what exactly is "basic"

leave it up to the mods and if a certain mod includes a role you don't think is basic take it up with them when the issue arises or just don't play in their games

I'm sure no one is going to intentionally put roles in that they think might confuse newbies or be too complicated/unbalanced

another issue I have with the way mafia is played around here, as I think I mentioned to Verbal somewhat recently, is that the mod queue is...slightly pointless

what exactly IS the point of it? to limit the amount of games going on right?

how many games are going on right now on DM? 3 or 4? how many are slated to start very soon, another 3 or 4? how many people are currently playing in 2 or more games? how many people are playing in 2 or more games here and are also in games on other websites? how many people are signed up to mod?

maybe there should be a limit but 2 at a time seems to be more restrictive than what people really want

Scum is any anti-town role. Mafia is a group of anti-town players that are allowed to speak to each other in private in order to coordinate their attacks against the town. The Mafia gets to kill 1 person per night. They win when they equal or outnumber the town. A Cult Leader can recruit 1 person per night to form a cult that can communicate in private in order to coordinate their recruiting activities. They win when they equal or outnumber the town.
