What's Sherian up to?

I have no idea what is really going on - for a long time I thought she was just kind of near burn out, taking on to much of a leadership role and not having what it needs to shoulder all that responsibility and criticism. BUT there is that part (forgot where) when some one is beating her up - so there must be more to it.

I wouldn't get too concerned over Sheriam. When she was getting beaten up, there was the line from the unseen person that ran something along the lines of "you were supposed to tell me what that girl [Egwene] is up to." I believe this was right after one of Egwene's victories against the Hall. I wouldn't look any farther than Lelaine for a culprit.

There is more oddity around Sheriam then just the incident with the questioner. There was the grey man found on her bed, the way she keeps turning up at the Hall, the incident when she burst into tears in the hall (which likely does have to do with the questioner)...

Then there is implicatory stuff... Chesa, the maid that Sheriam gave Egwene is the only one of the three that Aran'gar doesn't kill. Sheriam also tells a novice about the 13 + 13, something not even known to most Aes Sedai.

The weirdness with Sheriam goes all the way back to the Tower. Remember when she found the Wonder Girls with the dead Gray Man, and she wasn't even curious as to who stabbed him?

I really don't know what to think about Sheriam. But what if more than one thing is going on? What if she's supposed to be keeping tabs on Egwene for the Shadow, and has been maneuvered into spying for Lelaine, and is failing at both? That would certainly put her on the edge.

I didn't include that one because i think its entirely reasonable that she wouldn't wonder about a murder in front of novices, whom she reguards as children. She was short with them, abrupt, trying to get them out of the way so that she could actually act upon the matter.

Ciete: But wasn't she tortured w/the power? An Aes Sedai couldn't do that. I may be wrong (and Im sure I'll hear about it if I am  ), but I always thought it was Halima who put the smack down on her.

First off, I'm not sure that it was ever clear the Power was actually used to do the beating. That said, since it technically isn't using the Power as a weapon, the oaths won't kick in. It is supposedly against either Tower Law or Custom to use the Power to discipline an Initiate of the Tower, but ways around that are found on a regular basis. Look at the beatings that Elaida gave Moiraine during New Spring. When it was found out that Elaida was beating the tar out of Moiraine every night during the "practice" sessions, it wasn't the use of the Power that got Elaida in semi-hot water, it was the fact that she was giving Moiraine an unfair advantage in the actual testing itself.

Do you mean the questioner in her tent - or was there in incident with an whitecloak Questioner with Q that I have forgotten about?
