Testing damane

I´m about to start my first role playing here at DM - yay! I have a question first that I hope someone could answer. I have read a lot about the testing where the seanchan find sul´dams and damanes but I can´t find exactly how it´s done. I figure they put the necklace on and see if the person who is tested feel pain etc. Non channelers can´t feel anything. Do you think I´m right or is it done in another way?

in book 3 dragon reborn they talk about it that every once in awhile the will walk into a village and test ever girl for either damane or suldam. they just put the aedam on them

Otpelk is correct but there's more to it than that. They put the collar on and then the Sul'dam waits to feel a sort of feedback from the leash. Sul'dam are experienced in being linked with damane, so they recognise the sensations that come with it. One of those sensations is that a Sul'dam is very much aware of the damane, eventhough the control is fully in her own hands. While she can cause pain to the damane, she is also aware of the damane. In later books this is described when Nynaeve and consorts keep their prisoner in check with the help of an adam.

 

So basically, the Sul'dam puts the collar on and then waits for the feedback sensation that indicates she is linked to a channeler. She does not need to send anything through the leash in order to do that and in most cases she doesn't, which causes the shock to the would-be damane to be higher whent he Sul'dam announces that she's no longer who she is and that she'll become damane in the service of the Empress, may She live forever.
