Im not sure if you have seen this in the US yet but there has been an earthquake in Japan and Tsunami's

massive earthquake off the coast of Japan has triggered a tsunami alert for numerous countries and waves have already been reported.

The USGS has confirmed the quake measured magnitude 8.9 near the east coast of Honshu.

Sky News has shown live pictures of a tsunami wave hitting the Sendai area in the Miyagi prefecture and engulfing everything in its wake.

Initial estimates suggest the first wave was up to four feet high but sets of waves have been seen moving in on the coast and up rivers.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii said a tsunami warning was in effect for Japan, Russia, Marcus Island and the Northern Marianas. A tsunami watch has been issued for Guam, Taiwan, the Philippines, Indonesia and U.S. state of Hawaii.

Australia and New Zealand and the South American pacific coast have also been included in the warning.

The quake struck at 2:46 p.m. at a depth of 10 kilometers, about 80 miles (125 kilometers) off the eastern coast, the meteorological agency said. The area is 240 miles (380 kilometers) northeast of Tokyo.

Japanese television has shown major tsunami damage in northern Japan and there are reports that a tsunami wave of up to 6 metres (20 feet) could strike the coast.

Public broadcaster NHK showed cars, trucks, houses and buildings being swept away by tsunami in Onahama city in Fukushima prefecture.

In downtown Tokyo, large buildings shook violently and workers poured into the street for safety. TV footage showed a large building on fire and bellowing smoke in the Odaiba district of Tokyo.

I think the tsunami caused the worst damage. At only 10 miles deep, the quake was shallow enough to release almost all of its energy. That made this one really bad.

My heart and prayers go out to the people of Japan this morning.

A friend of mine-fortunately he's ok-is stuck at Narita Airport. He's been trying to get a little sleep, but is unable to with the ground still moving from the aftershocks. Hopefully, any further damage is avoided in Japan, terrible news this morning.

Earthquake, tsunami, 100+ aftershocks, and now possible nuclear meltdown :blink::sad:

Thoughts, prayers and hugs to Japan and anyone else effected by the tsunami.
