Looking to start a new series

Hello everybody. Brand new to the site and looking for some info. I'm wanting to start in on a new series but haven't really been following the industry as close as I should have been. I've read Jordan, Martin, Erikson, Goodkind (well, up to book 6. Not interested in continuing that one), Herbert's Dune books, you get the idea  Are there any other series out there along the same lines as these? Obviously I like the big sprawling epic stuff but I'm willing to look at shorter series as well if they have that "big" feel.

Thanks,

Alazar

There's Scott Lynch's Gentlemen Bastards Sequence, Patrick Rothfuss's The Kingkiller Chronicles, R. Scott Bakker's Prince of Nothing series, Daniel Abraham's Long Prince Quartet, Issac Asimov's Foundation, Tad Williams Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn, Tad Williams Otherland series, Tad Williams Shadowmarch series, Roger Zelazny's Chronicles of Amber, Stephen King's Dark Tower series, Jack Vance's Songs of a Dying Earth, Joe Ambercrombe's The Fires Law trilogy, L. E. Modesitt Jr.'s Saga of Recluse, Glen Cook's Chronicles of the Black Company, anything by Guy Gavriel Kay, obviously Brandon Sanderson's stuff is alright. That should keep you busy.

Mistborn, by Brandon Sanderson (the dude who's finishing the Wheel of Time). It's a trilogy with a very epic feel. Very well written, and it's complete, too!

If you don't mind starting a new series that's not likely to be finished for a decade or more, read The Way of Kings (also by Sanderson).

For some shorter stand-alone stuff, you could also read Elantris or Warbreaker, both very good (Warbreaker's better, Elantris is Sanderson's first published work and suffers a bit from it, but is still a very good read).

I'm assuming you've read Tolkien, but if you haven't, read The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion.

Good hunting!

yep Sanderson is a must read; i'm actually suprised he wasn't on your list

also, theres another series called A Song of Fire & Ice by George RR Martin. be warned it takes forever for him to complete a new book; though the 5th is scheduled to come out July this year. it's a good series in it's own way, a little bit more adult than WoT.

also, theres a few more "kiddish" stories; such as Percy Jackson & Harry Potter that are also enjoyable and have an epic feel to them (though the target audience is younger than that of WoT)
