Do your entry requirements differ between unis?

Yup. After applying each university can either choose to accept you by giving you an offer (and only if you fulfill the requirements of the offer can you go there) or reject you. One of the ones that accepted me also asked for a pretty darn high overall average which is why I'm quite sad :(

That sounds similar to here. I'm sure you'll be fine though :)

The six-year training is followed by two years of internship and thereafter a year of community service (subsequent to which you will be eligible for registration as an Independent Medical Practitioner with the Health Professions Council of South Africa).

9 years of my life - *poof*

at least you get paid in your internship - more than 35 000 Rand a month I hear (2 729 pounds or 4 282 USD), don't know about the community service year... problem is you don't know where they'll put you, I could go to the hospital a 5 minute drive away from here or to some rural, under-provisioned clinic in Limpopo or Mpumalanga (Probably not because I don't speak the right language, but you get the idea)

by the time I get out I would be 27 turning 28... that's assuming no changes to the system, and that I don't fail a year
