So, I don't know if there is a thread like this already, but i haven't found one, so admins delete this thread if so.

Taim, theories of him ranging from being Demandred, at least a darkfriend and more.

What really bugs me about this guy, is that Bashere does not believe the person that answers Rand's amnesty is Taim.

1. He has fought battles in Saldaea with him, nearly losing because of it - thereby he should have some knowledge of who he is.

2. He follows him to Caemlyn because of that (and thereby getting tangled in the Ta'veren web of Rand) But once he sees him does not recognize him as Taim.

3. Taim explains that he shaved his beard, Bashere doesn't buy it.

Is it merely an imposter posing under Taim? or just plain true that he shaved? I believe that there is more to Taim than the obvious darkfriend-connection.

I'm going to quote Jaime Lannister to make an example (ASOIAF) "If it looks like a rat, and smells like a rat - it's most likely a cat"

SO many threads, but none currently active as far as I can tell - the search function is disabled again - so it's okay. Just to get this out of the way, I should probably repeat that Taim isn't Demandred - RJ's confirmed that countless times.

Some speculate that Taim isn't really Taim at all, but someone else behind a Mask of Mirrors. Moridin's the usual suspect. Me, I think Moridin's too busy for that kind of thing.

ye i know RJ has stated that, and tbh im not sure i even considered him until i came to this forum

what i do think though, is that there is more to him than meets the eye.

a plain darkfriend - unlikely

If Taim turns out to be someone other than Taim, who could it be that would be satisfying? If it turns out Taim is actually a completely new character, for example, what would be the point? Who do we have who is unaccounted for who could be Taim? I can't think of anyone off the top of my head. Asmo is dead, Be'lal is dead, Sammael is dead, we haven't seen demandred's alter ego, Moridin is unlikely for various reasons, Osan'gar and Aran'gar were both busy, Rahvin is dead, this Taim can channel and we know he isn't Logain, nor any of the Asha'man. What other male channelers were out there at the start? Now maybe (if I might be permitted to wander off into the realms of the absurd and unlikely) Bashere's doubt that the man he meets really is Taim will turn out to be the Big Unnoticed Thing (isn't it an official forum rule than everything must be put forward as the BUT?), but I doubt it. Taim being someone other than Taim would be a difficult sell with no other candidates for who he could be.

I'm in the Bashere-and-Taim-are-both-DFs-in-cahoots camp.

He was genuinely surprised when his tents were raided. Why would they do that, if he's a Darkfriend? No, don't answer that, off topic. Instead, let me ask you this: what were they trying to accomplish by casting doubt in Rand's mind that Taim is who he claimed to be?

lol, wouldn't it be funny if the guy we know as Taim isn't Taim, and the guy we know as Taim is Demandred, and thus is consistent with RJ's comment that Taim isn't Demandred (as in the real Taim was not Demandred)

And yes, I know, Demandred's alter-ego hasn't been seen yet, no need to snap my head off. I'm just saying it would have been funny.

I still lean to say a "forsaken" simply because of the line at the end of tGS, "you know what they say, let the Lord of Chaos rule" Didn't the DO tell that to Demandred and then he passed it to the rest of the forsaken? I agree that Moridin is too busy, but who says that it couldn't be another character? Couldn't you do two Masks? Isam has pretty much removed himself after Perrin f'ed him up in wolfdream land. I'm just fishing now hehe, but just throwing it out there.

Do you mean an old guard Forsaken? They're all otherwise engaged (most of them being dead, at the moment). A 3rd Ager christened Forsaken, now that's possible.

Mmmm well perhaps the Red Ajah sisters taken to the palace weren't taken to see Taim at all?

They assumed it was Taim as the six Red Ajah Sisters were Gated to a palace somewhere that Pevara thought looked Saldaen in design.

It's just a crazy thought but what if Demandred after being surprised by the Asha'man present in the Cleansing of Saidin, decided to recruit his own Asha'man to confuse and stir up things is using the title M'Hael.

Remember it was Pevara's PoV she described the M'Hael, he sounded different to me than Rand had previously described...

There are too many Ashaman there for it not to be Taim (or somebody looking like/ speaking like Taim using MoM).

i dont think Bashere is dark, but i think a possible motive is that the way they see it, Rand cant afford to turn Taim away so they deliberately cast doubt in his mind, a test to see how easily Rand is pushed. Rands method of proving Taim is Taim is ridiculous
