Brown Ajah and Characters TRIVIA

Mystica

Recommended Posts

I thought it would be a good idea in the interest of consistency to have a thread in which we can post the various tidbits of information that belong to our Ajah and our Ajah characters. So that when we RP we don't end up with contradictory information like one person saying the brown quarters are on the second floor and another saying they're on the tenth floor. Or that Bennu's horse is a black mare and another noticing her horse is a white stallion.

Feel free to create a post for your own characters (one post per character please, to keep it all nicely in one place) and add any details you feel important for the continuation and consistency of your character.

Ajah trivia will be added to the list here in the first post. If you come across anything that you feel worth adding, please post here. Once your item is added, the post will be removed to keep the thread clean and orderly.

Brown Ajah Trivia

  • Located on the 22nd floor
  • Hallway has a dark brow tiled carpet with the flame of Tar Valon embroidered in a strip going from the entrance to the Ajah quarters straight down the middle to the far wall opposit the entrance door.
  • Regular sister's rooms have a main room with two extra rooms, one of which has an on suite bathroom. The extra room is intended for the residence of a potential warder but can be used for other purposes as well.
  • Sitter's rooms are the only ones with a balcony though Sitters may decline such a room upon being raised to Sitter.

Brown Ajah Ter'Angreal

Ter’angreal Name: Book Finder (1 Receiver & 4 Senders)

Ter’angreal Description: Five small stonelike figures. Four shaped in the form of an open book (Senders), one shaped in the form of a closed book (Receiver). They are all small enough to easily fit into the palm of a grown woman's hand and look like stone, but are very light in weight. They are copper colored.

Ter’angreal Uses: these can be used to call someone within a radius of 1500 feet (0.5 km). One person holds the sending half of the Ter'Angreal (= the open book), the other person holds the receiving half (= closed book). It is mostly used in the Tower Library. The librarians up front use the Senders to call a sister (using the Receiver) in the section of the Library sealed to the shawl, for assistance when needed.

Ter’angreal Trigger: a small thread of Air is channeled into the middle of the open book. The Receiver, usually hanging from a chain around the librarian's neck, begins to glow softly yet with increasing intensity. The intensity of the glow increases or decreases depending on the position of the keeper of the Receiver in relation to the sender. The closer the Receiver gets to the Sender, the less intense the glow becomes. The further away, the brighter the glow. This helps in locating the Sister in the vast chamber of the restricted section of the Library. Once both halves of the Ter'Angreal are within 3 feet of each other, the Receiver stops glowing and does not start again unless the Sender is activated again.

Other History: concept by Mystica. Carina al'Tara, Brown Sister, brought 1 (incomplete) set of these back from one of her journeys to Tear.

Character info

bio link

Main timeline (current) info:

  • age: 215 (I think, need to check this but can't find any reference at this point. stupid me, didn't keep records)
  • appearance: She wasn't very tall, only 5'6. Her face, ageless as all sisters who worked with the One Power for several years, was oval shaped. She wasn't beautiful, if you disregarded what she was. Not in the way some other sisters were that had the men look over their shoulder to get a second look. Though she was not plain either. People, men and women alike, would look again but for another reason than just for her being a beautiful woman. Carina had a mystery about her that made people take notice. No, she was not beautiful, though those that spent any length of time with her would swear she was. She had a way of putting people at ease, just by being there. Odd that, for an Aes Sedai. And yet, she also instilled an almost instant feel of respect in people, though she never understood how she managed that. To her mind she was just who she was. Nothing extraordinary. Not like some other sisters, most notably Mother. Her hair was still pitch black, without a streak of grey in it. That too was unusual for one her age. For usually around the mark of 200 at least some grey would start to show itself.

Special talent (not One Power related)

Carina has enheritted a special affinity for animals from her birth mother. She has the ability to 'talk' to them. Not in actual speech and not in the way wolfbrothers did. Her ability was much more subtle and instinctive and even she herself doesn't quite fully understand it. She simply knows how to calm an anxious animal and they seem to flock to her and relax around her though she greatly believes in letting animals be who they are meant to be and takes great care not to humanise them. It is a relationship of mutual respect and acceptance.

Appartments

The appartment is made up from three rooms and one bathroom.

The main room, which opened to the hallway of the Brown quarters was the biggest with a balcony as was reserved for the Sitters of the Hall.

Upon entering the room from the hallway to the left there was a door leading to the bedroom with an on-suite bathroom attached to it. At the end of the main room, to the right, was another door leading to a second, smaller room that could be used for a bedroom for a potential warder though at present is used as a private lounge and study.

The appartment was elegantly dressed, for a Brown. Most of her Ajah sisters didn't pay much attention to esthetics, wrapped up in the importance of their various studies as they were, but Carina did. Being so high up it was even more important to her to keep a link to her beloved forrests. The furniture was all sober, yet elegant, fluently carved woods with subtle scenery of various aspects of nature. She'd found these treasures in the Tower store room where all the Tower furniture stock was kept that was not currently in use and from which Sisters could choose what items they wanted to use for their rooms. Once an item was picked, it became the Sister's property untill such time that she chooses to relinquish it. The walls were decorated with just the right amount of wildlife and views from various outdoor sceneries that you automatically gained a sence of calm and serenity just by being in the room. Not too overwhelming and yet subtly overpowering. Her desk, chair and the two visitor's chairs in front of it where all made of sungwood. Flowing fluently from top to bottom, in one piece. She couldn't believe her luck to have found that in the storeroom. Probably that most of the Sisters hadn't even realised it was there. She'd spent days in that storeroom, happy as a child in a candy store.

There stood four comfortable couches in front of the fireplace, each one meant for one person. The backs where made to look like intertwining tree trunks which flowed down to make up the four legs and the arm rests. The wood was a dark brown in several hues, enhancing the natural look of the items and the cushions on them were of a collection of colors that matched the autumn leaves. All around the room plants of various styles and sizes were positioned such that you really did have a feel of being outdoors. There were no animals here, though. Carina didn't believe in caging creatures the Creator had meant to roam free. She didn't need to, really. For soon after she had taken up residence here she found that birds would come to her of their own. Fluttering in through her window and settling themselves for a while, to keep her company. At first she had been apprehensive that their droppings would damage these fine things, but for some reason they never dropped anything. They simply flew out and returned a short time later. Very odd that. It wasn't in the nature of birds to care about such things. She'd have to study that sometime.

(note: totally did the slacker thing and simply copy/pasted the majority of this from an RP I did rather than retyping it all.)

Horse

Name: Sorei (Old Tongue for 'runner')

Breed: unknown

Gender: stallion

Appearance: dark brown with a regal bearing, not a tall horse.

You forgot the rooms over the Library; several sisters have historically maintained rooms there. Raeyn's main rooms were there (I might still have the map somewhere), and as a Sitter, she also maintained lesser quarters in the Tower proper so that the non-Browns didn't have to muck through super-Brownie home turf. ;)

Actually, I apparently have a few different maps. The graph, I think, had something to do with the fact that it says in the books that the Ajahs each have a wedge of the Tower... if not what levels where. And obviously, a map of the main room of Raeyn's over-the-Library quarters...

I didn't forget, Raeyn. I simply didn't know. Till now the Brown Ajah has been rather dead except for me, so finding information was rather difficult (and since I was alone, not that much of a priority at the time either). As you'll recall, you outlawed any talk about DM during your absence, so I couldn't ask you anything either

I've always had the impression that the Tower library was inside the Tower proper, on the ground floors and beneath. I was unaware that there was an external building for this at all. If you can provide any information on that, that would be very helpful, as I've outfitted my RP's according to my assumptions on this.

Yes yes, I did... I don't like being in the physical pain stress and emotional pain causes me. *grins* Someday, I'll get me drugged up good, and this'll be a non-issue.

*hides from the whappage*

Yes, it IS a separate building, but you know as much as I past that. I might've read somewhere that there are covered walkways, but that's a big [[citation needed]]. I know that the storerooms where Liandrin and company's discarded clothing bits were under the Library, and accessed by a large, barn door or something very similar.

Gah, stupid wikia *rubs eyes*. They made the Wot wiki white-on-black, so I can't use it anymore. :/

oh I see. You feel like doing some research on this and maybe add a post about Raeyn to this thread, including her rooms? That black feen was part of Carina's Oaths RP, 't would be good to have her info here for posterity.

*licks profusely*

The only salient points I can specifically remember right now is that she played flute when she was younger (still has one, just doesn't play that often anymore(, and that her primary Ajah specialties are scribing/transcribing and research. She has a deep-seated hatred of the Green Ajah for their power-play in the aftermath of Karana's downfall (which is why people are morons - they can't keep my character straight from me ), and the fact they crapped on the compromise that WAS to be (there was to be a Keeper from the Blue Ajah; she got exiled and a Green was put in her place).

Chambers... you get the map of the public part, at least. ;) That's the ones above the Library; the ones above the Tower are similar in some aspects, but I can't really be bothered to map that out, ESPECIALLY since I don't see her coming back to the Tower any time soon. Still not completely sure what I'm going to do with her, but I'm not putting the character out to pasture quite yet!

I know she's not coming back any time soon, no need to rub it in  *pokes*

That pie diagram seems to be dividing the Ajahs along the circle of the Tower. But as we now know, the Ajahs actually take up a full (if not more) floor in the Tower so I've taken my cue from TGS and put the main Ajah rooms on the 22nd floor in the Tower. I can live with sisters having secondary rooms above the library though (even if they make them their main rooms).

As for room designs, I'd think that that is up to each sister individually. Just because Raeyn seems to be a spartan stool junky doesn't mean all Browns are LMAO. I'd add the room design to Raeyn's character trivia post here and will see to adding the library info in the first post.

This looks awesome Myst. I'm glad Rae's posting back in here even if her character isn't playing right now. *ggls* Its nice to see you aren't alone anymore Myst. ;) I promise not to spam in here but I found it a fascinating topic and rae

I had something witty I was going to say to that Rae...but i've lost it now. *laughs* I woke up to early and I guess my DP hasn't kicked in yet.

Hee hee, I could do with a caffeine dose myself... but that would make me feel like I'm the World's Worst Person for doing that WHILE exercising. But surfing the net and playing games? Why, that's totally different!

That reminds me - Mystica, did you already get a new Ajah page up, or did you need old ones for reference? I've got the Wordpress install for the one I hosted saved on my PC (I'm on my laptop), as well as the bookmark for when Shanaevee was head; there's some stuff there, obviously. And I might even have the files from when I was head before that, but as that was a Geocities, I don't know that I have it in page format. :)
