Well, if you haven't read Lord of the Rings..that's a good place to start.  If you want to read something that is extremely similar to WoT, read Goodkind's Sword of Truth series.  It's not quite word for word, but close enough.  Many like the Shanara (sp?) series by Brooks.  I personally like Tad Williams.

In rough order of similarity to WoT (from most similar to most dissimilar):

Tad William's Memory, Sorrow and Thorn.

Raymond E. Feist's Riftwar Saga.

Joe Abercrombie's First Law Trilogy.

George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire.

Scott Bakker's Prince of Nothing Trilogy.

Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn Trilogy.

Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen.

Avoid Goodkind. His series is utter trash. Eddings, Salvatore, Weis & Hickman and Brooks are okay, but if you've read WoT you're already reading above their level. They're more for younger readers and people just starting out in fantasy.

I can agree with your comment especially about Brooks.  I don't know if I could take a step back and re-read Brooks now that I think about it.

I was wondering the same and has asked the same q a month and a bit back. I then started with Kate Elliotts 'Crown of Stars' series after someone suggesting it. It was really slow and not very catching through the first book but it really picks up in the second book. Im half way through book 2 and its pretty nice.
